Cheapest way of Setting up a 20 Bots+ Desktop?

I know Gold Farming.. is shitty but this seems to be the only way I can make any money atm..

I was thinking of just buying some Cheap Pentium 4 3ghz Processors and Socket 750 Mother Boards for them and just using a Metal Frame Rig to support them instead of using a bunch of $ on Cases
And Splitting 1 Power Supply Box 2 them all
With DDR1 Ram maybe since I don't think Ram Speed Matters so much with them around 2GB Ram each I'm thinking?
3 Bots max on 3ghz
under 500mb for a Linux Operating System
1500mb for the 3 bots hmm

Pentium 4's are only about 15$ each so it seems like I'd get a lot more moneys worth out of them then just buying Quad Core Processors since they are really expensive about 200$ and only give you around 12GHZ.

Rs Requires 1ghz Cpu and 500mb ram Minimum to run

Does anyone have any suggestions for me or better setups?

How many bots per computer do you think you can run? Power bills will be expensive.

Judging CPU's by frequency was only semi-relevant when we were still in single core environments.

Your best bet will be a i5-2500k OC'ed, budget mobo, no dedicated GPU, and a 400W PSU.

By far the i5 2500k OC'd maybe slight better performance with the 2550k and a graphics card.. not really though

I was thinking of going with the Multi Threaded Processors but isn't Runescape Pretty much Single threaded in Lowest graphics + Safe mode?

I guess it would Benefit Running Multiple Instances of Simba tho.

Yea, each simba will run on different cores, and smart is multiple thread (smart also uses quite a bit more of cpu power than simba)

Why has no one suggested AMD CPUs? Way cheaper than intel, at least usually. Where are you finding Pentium 4's for $15?

Yes, however their overall performance isn't really worth the price

their highest clock 8 core the 8150? I believe. is slightly better than the 2500k (maybe 20%) and it eats quite a bit more power, and isn't as overclock friendly (unless you're using liquid helium or whatever ridiculous stuff they used) the 2500k overclocks to like 4.5GHz on air pretty easily

You'll need a heatsink and fan too… So that's actually going to cost you about ~$30?

@grats, I have a Phenom II X6 1090T, and it has yet to be maxed. It cost me about $130, and I've only overclocked it a little (3.6Ghz) but I haven't adjusted anything other than the multiplier either. It runs cool at about 89°F normally and 130°F under load….

Granted I'm not familiar with Intel's CPUs. Frankly their CPUs have always confused me. The i5-2500k doesn't even have Hyper threading, so why would he want a quad core over say, a hex core that is much less?

I didn't actually think people thought higher frequencies and more cores (between Intel/AMD) actually meant more straight up performance.

Because the i5-2500k blows away the 1090T and OC's better.

Perhaps, but the 1090T also costs less.

Not that it matters since the 1090T has been discontinued, a better option would be AMD FX-6200 Zambezi 3.8GHz. Which retails for $158.

Where as the i5-2500k costs $219

Bulldozer uses about twice the electricity under load and even idle than sandy bridge. Something to consider when botting 24/7, increases costs.

(2500k v 8120 specifically) Bulldozer does 30-40% worse in single-dual threaded applications (if he ever wants to use the computer normally later on). They perform somewhat close in heavily multi-threaded apps like video encoding.

For botting runescape, they could be close, but the 2500k still OC's better, uses half the electricity, and can still be upgraded.
