If you click the link, there is a small tutorial/walk though on how to add yourself.

Be patient, sometimes it takes a few minutes for you addition to show up, and if you do it multiple times it will make multiple entries.

You may be surprised just how close some of you are!

EDIT: Nevermind. You have to be logged in to google. Then just right click on wherever you want to add yourself, and hit "Add a Placemarker".

And toss your username in the description :). It's quite simple

Edit: @ Sokkr7, that's why you just add like a general town, or something, not your exact address.

Also if you want a special marker, just click on the marker after you have placed it, then in the little bubble that pops up, click the marker icon in the top right to change it. Keep the default icon.

Do you have to sign in or make an account to set your own location?

steps to adding location:

1. create/login to your google account (this is a must)
2. look on your left hand side and you will see an edit button - press it
3. locate your location, then right click it - 'add a placemark'
4. for the title fill in your city's name and state
5. for description, put in your forum name
6. click save

@Flight, actually clicking it and seeing all the dots on the map is way better/cooler I think.
I bet people won't even know 3/4+ of the locations/where they are on a map without seeing it visually.

I added myself but there is a problem:

Anyone can edit others placemarks? I accidentally dragged someone's placemark a bit and then tried to move it back but it's probably in a wrong place.

You don't have to use the same icon, just a default one. So no external icons are allowed.
