Runescape selling out

So last night I was chatting with a Jmod for nearly 2 hours. We got on the subject of bot nuke, etc.

So something I didn't know that Jagex sold nearly 50% of their company to a investment firm. I asked why they would sell half of their company and he responded back with…. " We had nearly 350,000 paid memberships monthly, after the nuke the memberships drop nearly 75% "

Something I can relate to is something called PNL. What PNL is, Profit & Loss if your loss over powers your profit then you are losing money…So when you have 350k memberships then drop to less then 120k memberships that can hurt a company badly…. They understand that the auto community is the one reason why Jagex makes there money but as you can see a new company has been pushing for bigger payouts.

The spin the wheel crap is from the firm, the refer your friend for 10% more xp is the same garbage, they are really hard up for the memberships.

So I asked him, who is the target for the bot nuke and his response was " ones who are messing up the market " Literally he said, bot nuke never would have ever happened if the players of RS didn't put up a huge front on the forums…It forced Runescape to ban a large amount of the bots… Runescape isn't stupid right now they have a choice, let the bots to gain levels or let the bots gold farm and destroy the market that they built over a decade to build…

Needless to say they are spending more money investing Runescape in other areas which means you'll see a few more games like the spin game; the firm is always now holding 50% of the game which means before any updates that will cost time for the designers, testers, and tech builders the other half has to agree to it…But if they aren't making any money right now what will tell them from investing more money into a game to update it if they are losing money after the Nuke….

They know once the Nuke hits in July it will clear a large percent of there paid memberships which only hurts them…If Jagex was content with the membership status they wouldn't have sold half there company off after last years Nuke, and with this Nuke coming shortly what doesn't make Jagex think that they aren't going to lose the memberships again? They know once they ban them a large percentage of customers wont be paying again….

That is like taking a liquor license away from a strip club, the liquar is what supports the company, the men come and buy drinks with a 120% mark up value…That's how they stay afloat and unfortunately RS is in business right now due to the auto community…

Jagex is so corrupt, I wouldn't be surprised if they sold all their computer power to North Korea.

This is true. A few days ago runescape had an update. Right before the update the online players counter was around 130k. After the update, it plummeted to 25k and didn't change by much until major bots were back online. It's a sad story but we have to come to grips with it; runescape is dying.

I have to agree with you on this, sad that bots are over taking the game but it is what it is…Its like a wave, you ride it until you can't ride anymore…

*sigh* don't you miss the old days back in 2007 when the only thing around was scar… if bots remained hard to use and setup then we wouldn't be in this mess…

Yeah their probably won't even be a bot nuke because of their Lack of Hardware* 2 be more to the point, Imagine how much it would cost them more per month to Monitor Every Acc for a long time.
They will do it probably for 2-7 days at most, so when September comes just Legit your mains and only bot on your noobs.
But o god yes I used to love the old days, I don't even rarely play Rs I just script it's so fun to bot on Rs used to be better tho.
Edit: I can't believe 100 thousand hey, I think it's just too easy for people to bot easily and effectively with their Beloved Epic bot and Power bot.

Well the issue is, even if you get new 'users' like if you advertise… The grind is so aggressive that it would take years for the players to get to a level where it would make any type of impact.

Only hope to bring old RS players back is to find what you can change to make the game better nd hope they come back.

Jagex's logic is stupid that's why. If they actually held out a bot nuke for a while, players would actually start playing. When you're ran over by bots, you don't wanna play instead you join them. When bots get nuked, even the once legit players are gone.

If they can prove that they can hold out a bot nuke for maybe a year straight, I'm pretty sure that player database that spent so much time botting and getting their skills up will eventually start back playing since no one likes to waste their time on a game getting maxed and then just ditching it all.

The reason the players stayed low after the nuke was because they were told that RSBot and Epicbot were definitely going to make a comeback. If these bots said that they cannot comeback, do you honestly thing that many players would just quit right there and then? No.. they bought these scripts for reasons of the unknown.

I have to disagree with you…Holding out another year would ruin RS all together….

You don't like to go to work every day do you? But you need the money to survive, and to live? If it was as simple as printing 100 dollar bills every day do you think the economy would get hurt with this? Over time the bills wouldn't be worth what the economy says it is…

It would just be paper with no real value. Right now two things Jagex can do. Ban everyone and risk going out of business due to having to constantly changing the game to stop bots, and lets not forget the lack of income too.

Or get aggresive and target gold farmers / bots that hurt the market such as one with hides, bones, chims, runes, etc…

I live my life always saying this, what is the lesser of the two evils? When I make a judgement call I know that both decisions aren't going to be the best but I try to find which option wont have to much recoil.

So like I said, ban gold farmer bots; you will lose a percentage of customers allow the market to grow back. Maintain the market & fight off the boarders of bot central..

Then update the game where players that are maxed and have been maxed for months will come back and play again..Give the players a reason to be members / rejoin.

Selling 50% of the company was done like last year. It was sold to Insight Venture Partners. They basically come up with the promotions, and then the rest of Jagex either agree to put it to effect or see if they can modify it.

The whole reason people are botting 2 is like the Lvling up is just way to hardcore and 2 Long to get too a decent Level and most of the game play is primarily aimed at getting you to spend as much time as possible on the account, It's 2 obvious to people as well.
Wow was pretty decent because of the action and I've seen the new Diablo 3 and it looks like a lot of fun being on TeamSpeak with your friends.. being retards together with Constant action, Amazing Cut Scenes.

If runescape goes out, what will happen to all these big bot sites, all these goldfarmers, etc? Will they move on to another mmorpg?

Exactly. The tedium of leveling most skills up, completing quests, getting untradables, all that is targeted to increase the lifespan of the game at the expense of the player. Botting is the logical next step for players who want to get past some of Runescape's extremely poor design and get straight to the fun bits, whatever they may be for that certain player.

After all, what's better than having a bot grind out millions of mind-numbing clicks for a few 99's while you play a much better game instead, or work, or anything else?

If anything, bot nuking is a short-term fix that will have to be replaced by more entertaining gameplay, and I think the EoC is their first big attempt to remedy the obvious hole in the sinking ship that is Runescape. With gaming becoming cheaper and computers becoming better, there are many more alternatives to Runescape. It's not like back in the day when if you wanted to play a game on the sucky school computers, your choices were Runescape or buggy flash games. There are much better options now. Gamers have better options than clicking "Add log to fireplace" 100 million times, Jagex knows it, and they are in serious trouble.

so I shouldn't be scared to get banned since I just bot to get levels?

2012-06-26 13:05:14

It's really sad to hear that.
A game that has evolved over many years (13 years!), A company that grew during this time .. and now due to all those who came to ruin the economy, gold-farmers, caused Jagex to take action of this size.
Sell 50% of the company isn't no joke. To reach this state, 75% of the members disappear after the bot-nuke.
Even sad :/
However much they try to recoup the jagex members, the game, every day, die.

An example that I think you can relate this too would be Call of Duty.
Although many people have spent many many hours on their various games, they have been allowed to release basically the same game many many times. The reason everyone buys the newest game is because everyone else is. Once people start leaving and moving on to other games their friends will follow. That being said, RS is not Xbox 360, just some thoughts :p

Edit: This is why a large number of people left but the remaining are the die hard runescape players who will play until it dies

Rincewind

If the number of players are leaving because they no longer like RS due to bots/market prices/ etc won't the big bot sites and the gold farmers have a shrinking consumer base? So the gold farmers are also paving the way for their own death. I guess the mentality right now is ride out and get the most profit before all shit goes down.

Well WoW was facing this too during tbc-wotlk. Do you think they lost over a million subscribers because the game was so ruined as all the forum ranter actually say? No it was because they were ruthlessly slaughtering all the Goldfarmers… Goldfarming bots were very common back in tbc and they still exist today but in a much less amount. A bot have to have so much higher quality to remain undetected and stable than the avarge Runescape bot. With Warden and other serverside detection monitoring you a "project" like Rarebot would never exist since it requires dedicated people to run a serious bot. That makes alot of the bots paid and a majority of the ex goldfarmers tend to hack/phish or use real people to farm instead of, simply because it isnt worth the struggle of using a bot.

Jagex needs to take lessons from other company's.

I got this

2012-06-26 22:21:55

Runescape is dying simply because they can't get new players and the new players they get feel it takes to long to level up and then the new players hear about bots (Everyone talks about it) so they search it up on the web and find PB or EB and boom your new play gets addicted to botting and not runescape itself and once the bot dies the player leaves

I believe that the current situation of Jagex is primarily based off of their inability to adapt as a company. Over the course of 10 years, the company itself has sold itself into a promise of a fair system. However the paradox is that they were so naive just as many other companies are, and the fair system that was promised simply corrupted both sides of the argument.
Whenever the question of money is introduced into an MMORPG, as a company you must be prepared for the backlash. You want to charge 10 bucks per month, that is fine, but you need to be prepared to spend 8 of those 10 bucks on security. I mean employees working round the clock researching websites that script and write bot programs, ready to combat the decay of justice in an online game.

For those of you arguing that jagex needs to step up their bot detection system, you do know that you are on a botting site and if jagex does anything about bots anymore from now on, it will be targeted at us? Just saying…who's team are you on?
