I believe there is some work being done making it possible to run simba on osx by removing operating system dependent functions and libs. You could fork the simba repos and finish it?

Mac are useless to science and technology users, unless they are using it to make little ios apps :)

THere is a reason 99.9% of computer science, engineering student and professors use windows and some time linux. While all the artsy and some times science students use macs.

Sorry to say that but it is not true. Mac is not better but something different. If you want to work with a computer as a serious man with a bit of cash you should definietly use mac as it works much better and the programs are awesome. If you just want to play Runescape etc. use windows.

I've got a fork going to port Simba over to OS X. As far as I know that's the only one going. Nava has said he would also help out though, but hopefully we'll get it running soon for you guys.

Yeah, because they're mindless drones who don't know how to accept what's better ;) Most of my classmates in my degree program are using Windows, however definitely a majority of the professors are using Macs.

Trust me I know this, I took 1 year of mechanical engineering and is now doing 2nd year software engineering / computer science. Most of the programming in class is done in windows, While the xcode does have a little bit simplicity compare to visual studio, but after the first year it won't give you everything you need. Then if you look at all the CAD programs or the other software you need for labs..etc none of them is likely to have support for mac.

My current laptop cost less than half of a mac that has the same spec, with twice the functionality.

You will see this when you grow older :p

Mac is major in the Musician- , Science- and Videoscene. I would never say windows or Linux (or whatever) is bad. Everyone should use what he likes most. I prefer mac as it is very stable and user friendly. I bought myself a windows tower too a few months ago but if you got a mac you cant use any other system anymore as nothing is that cool as mac to use. :)

Windows suits my needs better as mac. Linux would be perfect if there were more compatible programs with it. I will never use mac.

Your school should do better and teach you to code platform independent. I seriously think when people are taught programming they need to be taught the basics and the framework that they can go on and learn how to do more stuff with. They shouldn't teach specifics because most stuff they teach will be outdated anyways. Most universities are guilty of this, mine included.

Also, I've said it once and I'll continue to say it: resale value. Putting aside the fact that year after year Apple beefs up the specs in their laptops without raising cost, and they are finally starting to pretty competitively priced(check out ultra books and compare MacBook air prices to those ;)), even though there is still a little premium on them. But I digress, you can buy a $1000 MacBook and 3 years later sell it for around $700. You can buy a $1000 pc and sell it 3 years later for closer to 400 or 500. Apple products keep there value like no other product on the market.

Here is your problem:
PascalScript supports Delphi 4 through 7 and Delphi 2006
through 2009, as well as the latest Free Pascal 2.x.
Supported Platforms are Win32 Ansi and Unicode
(Delphi + FPC), Win64 (FPC), Linux x86 (FPC
or CLX) and Linux x64 (FPC).

I think lape, a change in the near future, will make simba shine on osx. Pascalscript can't run on mac. I believe simba itself can.

There's a few things beyond PS in Simba that can't run in Mac, but that's one of the big ones. We'll need to switch over to Lape completely before it will completely work. What I've been working on recently is porting MML over.

Lol, this is a bad try. You can't just pick such a specific sector and say Mac is inferior. Think of what is the percentage of the computers used for this kind of stuff..
If you use bootcamp, you can use both without performance decrease. And from my experience from both OSs, OSX seems to be able to handle the performance specs way better, than windows.
As a game developer (sometimes little iApps sometimes bigger projects) I have to render a lot. The bigger render engines runs way faster and more stable than on windows. (once tried to do on windows, multi-threading was a mess)

You mentioned the price. We are comparing performance/ability and not performance/price ratio. Ofc Macs are expensive, but this is always the last argument of windowsfags ;)

Bootcamp is legit, but only problem with Bootcamp is that it takes your memory space (depends on you how to distribute it though), also you have to keep restarting your mac and hold down Option to choose the harddrive, I totally love this Parallel stuff! Totally worth every penny :)

I take strong offense to you guys calling a Mac not a real computer…I hate to break some of your bubbles but I had Two 2.4GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon with 24 gigs then upgraded to 32gigs of memoery and there able to go up to as high as 64 gigs…. I had 2 512gig solid state drives and one 2T drive that was my backup, my bootup ran off the Solid State drive….

I used this machine for rendering CGI workflows, After Effects, and Maya 3D rendering so I needed it. But when I sold my company off in December I sold the machine at the auction… I'm currently running off a PC with 8gigs of memory, but when your playing RS or surfing the web its a over kill…

But let me tell you, Mac's will always have my heart; you guys can build whatever machines you want with PC but Mac will always be the faster option….

Parallels will not only take the same space, but it will run slower than with Bootcamp.

LOLOL You guys are fanboys. I own a Mac, a Hackintosh, a PC and iPhone and most apple products but NOT a single one of you read what Main said.

Go take an Engineering class, make it to second year and then tell me the ridiculous argument that the teacher should teach cross platform. You guys are dead wrong. Try running the latest AutoCad or Pro E (Pro Engineering).

Guaranteed there is NO support for Mac. And don't gimmie the argument that there are alternatives because 1 there are never the same alternatives, 2 they do no stand a chance against the software provided for windows already.

Like I said I own both and I've taken Mech. Engineering and Computer Engineering and Programming. Stop hyping up the Mac. Mac's are good for iPhone development and Objective-C. It's good for graphics design but when it comes down to power and usage in the engineering/programming field, a Windows or Linux Machine is where it's at. If it's graphics design programming then a Mac can definitely overpower a windows machine.

Mac's OS is light so that is what makes you think it's fast. Put the same windows OS on a mac and see your performance degrade to shit all. For those running stuff in virtual machines, it's never the same. VM's never interact directly with hardware, there is always a middleman. Most VM's out there interact with the hypervisor first!

There is a reason bootcamp is there. Also barely any companies asside from apple, codes in Objective-C which is apple's revival of a mixed language.

Honestly I'm tired of seeing guys on the forum with the argument that everything must be cross platform. There is a reason OGL hooking tutorials are extremely hard to find. It's outdated and DirectX is the replacement. That being said, if anyone can do OGL hooking, they really should.

Each piece of software has it's advantages on different OS's/Machines. Doesn't mean everything should be ported or be made portable. Simba should be ported since there is a large user base and it is a community project but if DirectX hooking is implemented, well Mac users are going to be screwed.

Alright, first off let's make sure we do our research, just go on and take a look at AutoCads website. Yep, they've got Mac support for their latest software. That's not an alternative, that's autocad, so your "guarantee" is worth crap right there.

Now, you're saying that a given computer runs faster with OS X on it than windows and somehow you're saying that's a bad thing? Not sure what point you're drawing there. Secondly, my Mac runs windows better than than any of my other computers ran it (granted I never had that great of windows computers). Also, side question, why do people refer to bootcamp like that? All boot camp does is partition drives to get ready to install windows. It's honestly something you could do yourself. It's just a dual boot like you would do on any other computer. Unless you were referring to the bootcamp application that runs on Windows when you install it on a Mac, then all that does is make some tweaks that make using Windows a little more consistent with using OS X like the 2 finger scrolling.

You're biggest excuse for using windows, however, seems to be the software. But software was only written for windows when it was written because windows was the dominant platform, and it still is. But that seems like a rather backwards way of thinking. You're not critically evaluating what is better if you think like that.

And lastly, yes, software should be cross platform. Like it or not, Macs are gaining market share (noting that also, pcs are losing market share), not supporting a rising market seems rather stupid to me.

Now, if I sounded condescending I apologize, but that was the tone of your post.
