:fiery:

Fat people get no love in this cruel world. I am a senior in Highschool started next year. I would want to lose a lot of weight, So I can feel comfortable in my own skin. Im very insecure about my weight.

Ive started like a month ago, Ive lost 4 pounds since then .

Ive been playing outside 4 days a week . 30 minutes shooting basketballs. very tiring. Sometimes the ball hits the curb and rolls 400 yards down the street, and I have to usain bolt that thing.

Im 5,9 285 pounds. I play Defensive end for my school. I always get beat by the more agile Offensive tackles. I cant get around them.

If I lost more weight I think I could better myself as a person and player.

I post here to find some healthy meals yall cook up, A large percentage of America is overweight, I cant be the only one right ?

Please help me , help myself. :o

You are definitely not the only one. Of course you need to get away from junk food and unhealthy snacking. Another thing I strongly recommend is DON'T drink your calories. Water is great for you! Try to stay away from carb loading and never skip breakfast. If your dead serious about this and willing to do anything a gluten free diet will get you to shed tons but it is a very hard diet to follow.

Scooby is a weight loss/body building genius who gives you the cold hard truth and discredits 'lose weight quick' gimmicks. I recommend you read all the material he has which includes proper exercise.

You definitley need to lose weight, not just so you can feel comfortable in your own skin, but to be healthy.

Overweight people have a lot of possible health potential problems. One of the main ones being diabetes.

I sure hope you find the determination to continue your path down to a more healthy you. Hopefully keep us updated with your progress.

Do you count your calories? Weight loss is as simple as burning more calories than you take in (if your body is otherwise healthy). If you're not counting right now, chances are you're eating most of the stuff you burn right back.

So my suggestion to you would be to improve your diet, and put the exercise second. Both factors are very important, but I believe diet is the bigger factor you must concentrate on. The reason America is so overweight isn't as simple as Americans sitting on their butts all day (though that does play a big part), it's that most food has disgusting stuff in it such as HFCS.

Stop eating stuff with a lot of sugar in it (attempt to avoid all added sugar and stuff such as HFCS), and try to burn more calories than you take in. Also try to avoid pre-processed foods and such. If you look at how much sugar is in stuff you eat, you will be surprised how much you get daily. Try to keep your diet on the "lower normal intake" area (aka don't just stop eating), or you will just crash back up.

How do you play defensive end when you weigh that much? We'd put you at defensive tackle/nose guard at my school. All of our ends run 40 yards in 4.4-4.6 secs.

Anyways start counting your calories and try to burn off more than what you're eating. Running/Swimming will always be better than just playing basketball for cardio.

Change your diet to start off. Then start doing exercise like cardio and sports. Something that will help you lose at least 5-10 pounds, stop drinking soft drinks!!!!

Yes thanks for the input, but isnt eating 1500 calories then burning 1500 calories off of exercise, doesnt seem realistic.

About the football thing, I play DE because I earn my spot, A lot of people dont like to show up for practice, And I run a 5 flat. Im working on this weight so i can run faster.

It's really simple. Don't think of it as a diet. Make it a lifestyle. It's the only way. About 5 years ago I was a bit overweight at the age of 15. Now I am 6,2 220, ~12% body fat. Start with burning off the fat. Then look to add muscle and strength. I adhere by the principle that you cannot gain muscle and lose of fat at the same time, it is only said to be plausible at the earliest stages of lifting. As Harry stated, do the math. You don't have to be superbly precise, but make a ballpark measure. A pound = 3500 Calories, aim to lose 1 pound a week, thus reducing 500 calories a day from your maintenance calories.

This is one of the THE BEST beginning lifting programs. It's superb for hypertrophy and strength: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=998224&page=1

Thanks man. Really helpful site . I do the power cleans and squats and such at weight training for football practice anyway.

I HAVE to lift weights at practice, So how do lose weight and not muscle at the same time.

EDIT: I find basketball is very very cardiolicious. I shoot the ball, I run for every rebound, and I run when I layup, the only time Im not running or jogging is when I actually take a shot which is like .6 seconds long. I enjoy it more then running, and you know what they say "The best exercise is the one that youll actually do".

Just did 30 minutes of Basketball.

Now Im going to clean the bathroom and the house with extra elbow grease. burning calories and then you get a clean room. GREAT !!!

I strongly suggest www.leangains.com
If you don't workout you can still lose alot of weight fasting.

two years ago I weighed 225lb and now im 173lb. Shaved off 12 lb over a few months using that method.

You will learn that hunger is more mind than body if you try fasting a bit. And don't believe all the bullshit you find on bodybuilding.com about 6-9 meals a day, metabolism slowing down. That is all folklore, and misinterpreted from a single study.

Check out the site, seriously. It will change your life.

Edit: Summary of this site involves 16 hours of fasting, 8 hours of feeding. Keep protein high. Workout days eat 20% more, rest days eat 20% less.

BUT I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH.
DO NOT LET YOURSELF NOT COUNT CALORIES. Unless you like LYING TO YOURSELF, then COUNT IT. Otherwise your dreaming of progress, not ensuring it. It's like not looking at your bank statements so that you don't feel like you waste money.

Also. another note. Cycling is like the easiest way ever to make sure every day keeps you going.

But for someone your size I suggest going the weight-lifting route, just because u start to look like a muscly football player. More instant gradification, though your BF% will still be very high.

Also, fat people gain strength alot faster than people who have less fat ;) so the gym will be roflstomp.

Edit: But don't be intimidated. Try to keep yourself busy when you get into binge mode. Go for a walk instead. Or hell, browse srl forums and check out scripts. Learn a language. The secret is to be distracted :). Don't wait until meal time.

Edit Edit Edit: Also Cottage cheese is amazing.

Edit Edit Edit Edit: Another Note. People seem to think that losing weight is all about eating the right foods, or eating like a rabbit. Here's a secret. The only proven method to lose weight is low caloric intake over extended periods of time. You can eat accai berries and sweet potatoes all day. But eating the same amount of calories in icecream will still result in weight loss. :)

But on that note I'd still eat healthy, just cause you will usually be full longest on a bit of veggies with some protein.

Carbs make u full right away, so if you put em in a meal, IMO makes it saite you faster, and then the protein/fat keeps u going after that.

Drink water, with your meals.

That is my random rants for now. If you have questions ask me :).

More Edit:

Q: "Eating 1500 and burning 1500 doesnt seem realistic"
A: You burn calories by doing nothing. For instance if I do nothing i burn about 2200 calories a day. Just look into a Basal Metabolic Rate calculator :p

Oh that's good. Some people say they do something like basketball for cardio yet they're walking the entire time.

Well keep doing what you're doing and maybe add in swimming after you get that pool.

Just out of curiosity how much do you squat/power clean? I'm a guard in football and some teams have defensive ends as big as you for me to smash into whenever I have to pull. It would be a nice advantage to know how strong they are.

Unfortunately it looks like genetics aren't in your favor. If you're really serious about it, then it's going to take more than what you're doing.

I'd recommend a different source of cardio. Shooting baskets is good, but it's not ideal. Go for something more constant - like running or cycling. If you start jogging/running for cardio you might can hit two birds with one stone, even, as you're sure to get faster over time.

Change your eating regime - that's the most important. As someone else said, don't see it as a diet but instead as a lifestyle change. Really look at what you eat from an objective point of view… is it healthy in the slightest? How much of it is processed foods? How much of it is grains? If counting calories and following strict diets seems overwhelming, just try to severely limit yourself on the frozen foods, the processed snacks, and grains first. Doing that and good cardio might be all you need.

With your build I would also suggest weight lifting in addition. If you can pack on fat, you should have no trouble getting the calories needed for some nice muscle gain. Plus, you wouldn't have to worry about losing power from your weight loss.

I was reading through this thread and i noticed that you constantly ask for a different meal diet specifically. That is the reason why so many Americans are over weight. Now im not trying to discourage and please don't get any wrong impressions but if you want it then you have to go all out. NO SHORTCUTS. Work for it, you can't make a difference unless you put all you got into it. Workout like seriously work out 5+ times a week. Not lifting a 10 pound dumbell 10 times but run until you can't breathe, do calisthenics instead of lifting weights since you are trying to lose weight not gain more of it. A good diet should be at the bottom of the list. Because a good diet only counts if you body is work at the same pace as the amount of minerals and everything else it takes in. There are also organic based weight loss pills that you can take IN VERY SMALL PORTIONS after a workout to speed up the process without hurting your body. Keep working and don't give up. This is gonna discourage but just know that very few make it because they lose sight of the goal and think its impossible.

When I say Dieting I don't mean crash dieting, I mean something you can maintain in a healthy life style.

I can stay in my "healthy" diet and still eat 2000 calories a day but none of it turns into fat because I managed to create a maintainable lifestyle diet.

When I say diet I don't mean cutting calories drastically I mean what you eat.
Example: My diet consists of protiens and carbs
NOT I am going to diet and lose all my fat.

he isnt tlking about doing random, stupid pre-made diets. he is saying your diet (what u eat) is the major factor in losing weight and keeping it off. so if you get a better diet (NOT pre-made diet junk, but selecting healthier foods in correct proportions) you are far more apt to lose those pounds, and keep them off.

If you have an android phone, this is a good solution for you:

Download the app called Skimble

Go through the settings and select your type of workout (easy, moderate, intense)

Choose workout plans and add them to your calendar

(The hardest part) Stick with each workout you choose till it is done (You need a lot of discipline to maintain this)

Don't buy the workouts cause there are like over 1000 free ones that work every part of your body

If you are like me and your workplace is within a 10km radius of where you live, bike there most days you prepare early

Last but not list, take pics every week, this will help in motivating you to achieve better results and push yourself harder in your workouts :D

All those chemicals that they add to soft drinks to make it taste like sugar are far worse than actually having sugar itself. I believe diet coke got banned in France because there was a link between Aspartame (The chemical they use to make diet coke sweet) and cancer.

Soft drinks are okay but do not have a lot of it. The key isn't to stop something completely but to slow it down. Maybe one glass of soft drink with dinner, and then swap it around, one day water with dinner the other with soft drink. Then you can go a bit further and only have soft drink on the weekends, etc.

If you do eat bread make sure you only eat wheat and not white bread.

White bread is high in G.I which means it spikes up your blood sugar level and then your body releases a heap of insulin to counter this which then causes it to crash back down, and you will feel hungry again in maybe 30-60 minutes.

Wheat bread is low in G.I and slowly releases energy and is a very good substitute.

Absolutely this. It's all about what you put in your stomach.

Make a habit out of looking at the nutrition facts of anything you eat. If there's too much fat or sugar, pass on it immediately, no matter how tempting it sounds.

Currently I'm trying to gain muscle (working out, running, getting protein). Been at it for about 3 months now, and along the way I sometimes develop a "screw it, I'll do it tomorrow" attitude which I believe has held back my progress by a significant margin. I find that telling yourself you're going to do something over and over in your head, writing down reminders and thinking of the end result will help you accomplish your goal more.

For example if you plan on running on Thursday and it's Tuesday, keep telling yourself in your head "I'm going to run on Thursday". Not over and over repeatedly, just occasionally throughout the day and the day after. Set a specific time, too. If you're on the computer a lot, open up a notepad file and type out "I'm going to run on Thursday at 3:00 PM", save it and keep it open as a reminder. Mark it on your calendar too.

Also try changing up your schedule once in a while. Doing the same thing over and over can be boring. That's why Runescape is awful and half the game bots.

Good luck with your weight loss.

Don't spread "bro science" to people, that is a myth, the best way for Op is to read, there are lots of good places where you can find information that come from reliable sources of information, not some bs in a bodybuilding site, so just google this and read, and keep reading, if you have questions after reading it, you need to read it again, diet will give you most of the changes in your body.

Alan Aragon
Martin Berkhan
Brad Pilon
Lyle McDonald

Also most of their books can be you know…obtained for free…anyways…

If you really want a real change, you will read, if you don't, well you will most likely be a lazy fat guy for some more time…

Also 1 single diet soda won't harm you, you need really high doses of aspartame on a daily basis to start getting problems, the only problem with it is that you will be craving more carbs if you decide to go on a low carb diet…

Good luck.

Good luck.

I don't go to body building sites.. lol.. My information is from a double Ph.D I work for who's all nutrition.

Currently I'm trying to gain muscle (working out, running, getting protein). Been at it for about 3 months now, and along the way I sometimes develop a "screw it, I'll do it tomorrow" attitude which I believe has held back my progress by a significant margin.

I bolded your problem.

Your asking for weight tips on a scripting forum?
Most of us are overweight nerds that play runescape…
I was blessed with a well functioning metabolism!
Jokes.

The answer to your question is:
Get protein mix
You know, like Whey protein powder and stuff. Then after a workout, mix some ice cream (low fat) and milk and protein powder together and you will literally see the fat shed off of you. My friend was a big fatass once and he just did some p90x for about 2 months and lost about 30lbs.

Mix it with water instead of all of that, and as unhealthy that protein powder is, doing that would make it a tiny bit better.

In fact I wouldn't recommend protein shakes at all, they are just horrible. All that shit that the add in there? All those artificial flavours and colours, and other chemicals? You don't need that shit in your body unless you want cancer. You can get protein from natural sources such as eggs, meats, beans and even nuts. Not from a refined, processed powder that came from a factory.

Instead of putting a banana flavoured chemical into your body why not just eat a banana?

I was 210 Lb this time last year, at 5 11'. Its the initial weigh loss that's the hardest. You have to change your life style. I had extremely high cholesterol at the time and needed to do something about it before I caused serious harm to myself at 16 years old.

I started walking 5 miles a day, 5 to 6 times a week. By August I was down to 185. I lived a dormant life style from then until February due to school. Rather, I was using school as an excuse to not exercise. I had gained weigh to between 190 and 195.

I had to change my life. I told myself I would die if I didnt. Lol, I quite an exaggeration, but it worked for me. I started working out at the local gym right after school. CARDIO. This is what you need. Get that heart rate up for a significant time most days of the week. Throw in some weight lifting, but don't make it a priority. Your "bigness" won't show till you lose some fat.

I started that mid February and by the beginning of June I weighed 155. Now I'm maintaining so I go to the gym less and hit the weights harder.

This is just my experience. Good luck with yours :)

Must be why sumo wrestlers have used the exact opposite diet to slow their metabolism for a thousand years.

You should dont eat anything and just drink milk from time to time. Then also do alot of sport. You should lose a few kilos per week. A friend of mine lost his weight this way very quick.
