[Suggestion] New applicant requirments

I saw a previous thread today about making only junior members able to apply, and the post right below it by Markus stated requirements are 300 posts/6 Months. I personally think that's a good amount of time and post count but most of you don't. So here goes my suggestion:

I would definitely suggest at least Lesser Demon rank. The requirements are not too high and it makes it so much better reason being you need 50 percent activity bar, and longevity doesn't even matter. To get 50% activity, you need to post at least 4 times a day for 15+ days. If I'm going to even consider a yes to a application, I want to have at least seen the applicant post around the forums. I think it'll knock out some of the 1 post wonders we've been getting applications from.

At least 15 days with 4 posts a day is NOT a high requirement

Yes if you agree
No if you do not

(yes I know ultimately it is the admins choice but I'm hoping they might consider it)

This is a good idea.
I think this would prevent apps without scripts, since they are long enough here to know it better.

no scripts, copied scripts, stolen, trolls, etc. Yeah, we catch them most of the time, but I rather spend my time looking at a thread worth voting for.

I don't with any limit on time/posts, when people join they have an intensive to script, it's like a goal, taking that goal away will reduce the number of people starting up, when people start in a community such as this they may well be active in terms of reading around the forum, but might not shout around about it, so it might not be reflected in the post count. I think the current system where each user can judge for themselves whether an applicant is worthy works the best and always will. We want people to usefully post around the forum, not spam to get their activity up…

Jonny, if this limit is posted, chances are they will by then know the rules. Like I said, I want to see the applicant around the forums. When is the last time an applicant who just registered with 1 post gets accepted. They don't. This limit will get rid of the 1 post users who have stolen or have no script at all.

I do think there should be a min post count for people to apply for members, but I think it should be 10 posts/1 week. This will take care of the vast majority of lvl 1/no script applications we come across.

Edit: I am not yet a lesser demon…

That is because you havnt been active

I suppose, but then again, I never have been all that active. I guess I have too many hobbies. One of these days I will finish my Addy miner, superheater, and banker script…

Also, I would like to mention an issue with post count requirements. Users will sometimes grave dig posts to satisfy the required post count, and flood/spam threads with non helpful information. I saw this at a software site that only allowed people to download after 50 posts. Some new users would make 50 posts that are pointless, and then there was a lot of work to "clean" these posts…

The flip side is that if they are too lazy to write a script, they are too lazy to spam the forums.

Well eterfreak, you don't get more activity if u post 100 posts a day. It's 4 posts a day max for the activity level to raise any post after 4 does not count toward activity level :)

I thought it was 5 posts a day, for members only ?

Not sure what you mean for members only but it's 5 points total, 1 point for logging in, and 1 point for each posts up to 4.

5 total.

Kinda thought that when I seen the green block and 4 yellow :p
I always though that members activity is easier to keep up ? One of the hidden benefits of being a member, not sure tho.

Edit: Anyway I think for anyone to apply for members they should of been here for a month or more.
I personally think that will stop all the apps with no scripts.

Nope same for all users. Were no more special than any user :P

Yeh for me it should be based more on longevity than post count and activity - because that doesn't reflect their scripting abilities.

A longevity requirement of two weeks will be enough time for a user to gain decent knowledge on scripting as well as a good activity.

Having said that two weeks longevity isn't enough to gain SRL Membership, but it's a good minimum I guess.

Were talking bare minimum here. You need at least 2 weeks of activity to obtain lesser demon status.

I agree here, very logical

You don't necessarily need to post 4 time a day to be active. You can be on IRC, or simply reading threads/tutorials and other things around the forum.

punkd

2012-06-15 13:22:25

Well Griff, even if a user is on irc all day, reading tuts and all, If they're post count is low along with longitivity, it ruins the effect of being a member. They can't exactly contribute by reading tutorials their srl member lives. You know what I mean?

I don't think 4 posts a day is necessary, I think 2 would be fine. But honestly the way we could stop the bad applications would be just to make "registered users" unable to apply as weequ suggested in another thread.

But what about people like zmon. He applied as a RU, but it was the best app we'd seen in a while. It'd be illogical with examples like that to restrict it to JMs.

Cause, your saying 2 is fine but 300 is better loll. You need 300 posts /6 months for junior.

We were in talks to make him a JM… but that never went through because of his app. So he would of been a JM.

This exactly.

Obviously once in a while we may have members with advanced knowledge but not much activity. That's what the Jr.Member Lookout section is for - to promote them before three months and encourage them to apply.

EDIT: Now that I think of, a Lesser Demon requirement along with the Junior Lookout section for those a bit more 'gifted', it would be an excellent system.

Lesser demon is not difficult to get. When I came back to the forums I had 0 activity. I wanted to get king black dragon before I applied but it wasn't possible. I had a 90% when I applied. Took me 1 month. After lesser demon it is a bit more difficult to get activity.
