I finally saved up for my first rune scim and had the 25k for it in my bank(This took a lot of goblin deaths and cow slaughter; RAWR). After advertising for 5 mins in lumb bank, someone finally sent me a trade offer and ZOMG >.> there it was…My soon to be rune scim. I calmed down a little bit and said to myself 'now remember chig san out there in the real world, scammers could be a lurking'.

The guy then proceeded to start giving me other items such as pots, hammers, flour, etc; (basically junk to me now but back then I was going nuts cause here I was getting rune scim + more). Somehow during the time he was trading me these items, he switched the rune scim with an iron scim and due to rs's next to nothing graphics back then, I never noticed the difference.

After he was done trading everything, I looked at the trade window thoroughly (with scrutinizing eyes and without a touch of emotion on my face) and then proceeded to unwillingly trade him the 25k. Second trade window comes up, I looked at the traded items, but this time my eyes were not so scrutinizing and were mostly on the top of the window waiting for the guy to accept. He finally accepts; I with the blood rushing through my head with my sweaty, shaking palms and after checking for the billionth time that I had the requirement to wield a RUNE SCIMITAR, proceeded to click accept also.

Trade finished, and with a rush of adrenaline I moved my mouse ever so gently across the screen(well as gently as you can with that much adrenaline pumping through you - more like a loop-de-loop pattern), found an item that looked like a rune scimitar, right-clicked, stopped, hmm…weird. Right-clicked again, "Flipping shit!".

That's right ladies and gentlemen, I just got scammed and at level 51 cb. Of course I didn't check the name of the person who had committed this abomination but I was able to describe the outfit they were wearing to everyone in lumbridge bank so they will know to stay away or for someone to wait for them in wildy and KILL them. My description of the outfit came at a cost cause it turns a lot of people in lumbridge bank were wearing full rune and a cape.

The bastard stole all the valuable items, equipments, ores, bars and coins of my bank, 3-4m easily stollen (about 2 years ago, it was a lot) -.-

Like a baws Shay! Nicely done. My fingers were just never quick enough for scamming

EDIT: @YesMan, we are looking for stories of you getting scammed in a trade you initiated, not for getting phished or hacked

Maybe a couple hundred mill, overall in the long run, due to bug abusers in the duel arena.

E: Now that I think of it, I do remember the first time I got scammed as a noob; I was in varrock, near the general store, and I had just made enough for a full black melee/armour set. Then some higher level guy offered to trim my armour, so I traded him. Afterwards, he laughed (I was confused as to why) then logged out. I waited for 15 minutes thinking he was coming back. -.-

Tell the story guys! How did it happen? Maybe someone else can relate

Started dicing last year around this time, got cleaned off 12m. Bet 5m when I had lost 6m as a final hope, won 10m pot and host with mask set logged out. Told the fc owners, and everybody saw it, but they didn't refund me lol. True story. Don't gamble kids.

edit: Playing since 06, never got scammed with items getting switched and such.

I got scammed out of my first ever 3k by a guy promising to give me members… I remember being so upset by that… Filed a report then emailed jagex.. :P

I remember how some guy got his hands on my account 6 years ago, I just recently recovered it and it was still combat 31 and had about 10k of items, heres the story:
I was walking down the street with my full black when a guy came towards me and said he would make them (g) for free… It was a nice guy and me being 10 didnt see any harm.. so I gave him my platelegs at first, we were at the anvil east of Taverly and I saw him smithing something on the anvil. He asked me to give the rest so he could make that (g) for me too. I asked him if I first may have the platelegs back. He showed it in trade and it were real black platelegs (g), I was getting very enthousiastic and gave him the rest of my armour. After that was done he said he would need my password to transfer it to my account.. I wanted him to just give it in trade but he wouldnt do that. I had to go and he just didnt want to trade it to me. <– my adrenaline rush moment :p
So I gave him my password, after I had time to play RS again I tried to login imagining how there would be full black (g) in my inventory.. I filled in my username and password.. clicked on the login button.. And it said something like 'wrong password/login'… (adrenaline rush again) I didnt know anything about recovery questions and such, so Ive tried logging in around 50 times but didnt work.

Now I just recently recovered it, In the box where you can fill in additional stuff I said the account was most likely made on the same IP as I were now, that it was my first account ever and how I lost it. I didnt know any previous passwords but the appeal was accepted :)

I also have some memories about someone giving me full bronze before which made me incredibly happy, before that moment I always had some iron and some bronze armour but never had a full set

Selling a cannon for a certain amount (can't really remember) lets say 550k, guy traded me, put up 550k and a prayer pot, as I put in the cannon he removed 500k without me noticing… fail and a half for my 12 y/o self (at the time XD)

In rs classic like 10 years ago someone put a needle and some coins so it would look like there was 10x more coins. I remember being confused in the second trade screen but still pressed accept because I was a noob :p

I remember when i became member for the first time. And i was around ten and i wanted one of those colored boots real bad. Then i asked this guy whats the price and he told me 50k and i bought it off him. At that time 50k was around my whole bank and when i realised he scammed me i was pretty sad.

in like 2008 i think it was, i was just chilling in lumbridge with full rune and this guy approached me and said he was having a drop party, he lead me all the way to karamja (not sure how) and told me to kill these "tribesman" whilst waiting, got poisoned panicked, spam clicked close window, realised i could of logged out, then raged.

Wow. Those days when 3k was my entire bank and i thought i looked so cool wearing full mithril. I bought charcoal for like 1k since i thought that it was rare… I threw a little temper tantrum.

Once upon a time I was sad because a friend blocked me on Runescape. (Come on, I was 10). I was using crying emote and some guy walked by. He asked me what's wrong and told me he would be my friend. He asked to borrow my addy armor. I lost it. That was my bank. (Btw this took place 5 years ago.)

Wanted to buy a trimmed rune plate (Worth 550k at the time) so I put 550k into the trade and while I was putting it in he traded it to a normal rune plate (It was noted, hard to tell the difference), and this was back in the time when they didn't have the big red exclamation mark come up when an item had been modified so I didn't know.

So I got scammed more than half a million.

I got scammed multiple times trying to play dice/flower/seal games. :/

Ah back in 2007 when I was 10. Somebody told me they were qutting RS and to meet them by Edgeville and they would sell me their stuff for cheap. Since it was in the old days I was in Falador World 2 selling and merchanting. Without thinking since I was so young I ran over there like nothing and he was standing by the bridge. But since there was no ditch back than I ran to trade him without thinking I would go into the Wilderness and BAM! I lost 15M and back than that was a lot!

I used to actually cut gems and trade them back to people. They started to pay me 1k each diamond after a while :D Got 70 smithing like that, never got another level for the last 4-5 years.

The first time I was scammed I had lost my account at level 40 because I didn't have any security questions.I had that guy on msn and persuaded his brother to give me his pass and I got myself a level 50 and I simply continued playing :D He never recovered it and in the end I got banned for cc fraud.

I was merchanting at the west varrock bank, when there was no G.E., I don't remember the first time I got scammed, but I got scammed a lot of times in that period of time (around 2007). One moment I really remember was when I was selling full guthix, and the dude put up 1300k, and then added another item and switched cash pile to 13004. I was in a hurry so I accepted both trades, then realised what happened.. :/

Traded my bank for a spinach roll…. Then ate it… Then quit for 2 years.
