Not like what it does to you, but how do you catch it in the first place?

Downloads, / Running a JDB
If you download a file or run a JDB (Java Driveby) you could get ratted.
If you want to remove it download: anti malwarebytez pro and take a quick scan to secure your computer for infection.
Ps: hope this answered your question.

Re-formats are almost always in order to be safe. There are programs out there such as HijackThis, what it does is inspects your computers browser and operating system settings to generate a log file of the current state of your computer. Using HijackThis you can selectively remove unwanted settings and files from your computer, but use with caution when choosing to removing anything using HijackThis, as the settings identified in a HijackThis log file can belong to both legitimate software and unwanted malware. So your probably better off backing up important info and reformatting as I said before!

Obviously you get some cheese and a mouse trap :p
On a more serious note, don't allow Java to run on any site you don't know. I have Java and Flash disabled by default, and manually allow them to run when I want them, per site.

Java Driveby
Running a .exe file to which a RAT has been bound (and most likely crypted so your antivirus wont pick it up)
Even opening a "picture" may seem safe, but if you have extensions hidden (in Folder & Search Options), someone can change the .ico (icon) for the file to a jpg, then name the file Holiday_Pic_00421.jpg.exe.
Having extensions hidden means you don't see the .exe, so I highly suggest you set them to shown (google "how to show file exensions *your OS here*")
Stay safe!

With a mouse trap..lol'
on the Runescape side of the story: by letting java run in websites where you have no idea if it's legit or not.

Yes it is possible to get ratted through your IP but it is VERY hard and you have to know what your doing x5.
