I think that its need a revamp, such as new graphics on the client, so it doesnt look like its from the 80's.

Loading Scripts from a folder. That way packaged scripts could be more easily maid and such like that! Just an idea, would make bigger projects alot easier and alot less messy.

I'd agree but I doubt anyone's going to take up that job of theming it over.

I think a script manager is being built (I imagine this is pretty complex, and will take a bit more time)

Graphics though could use some work, but its up to the community to make it happen!

If you want something? Make it!

Lol, first of all. For me to make it id have to be a dev for the simba client. Im not, otherwise i would work on it! :P

And ya a script manager is a lil complex especially in pascal but its doable! :P

Everything is open-source. You can make modifications and issue a pull request (or push request, I don't know, but still…), you can make it.

Its a plugin prob wrote in c++, and you don't have to be a dev. Its all open source :P

It is? :O Is it GitHub cause my laptop doesnt allow me to add stuff to there. Dont know why and dont really wanna mess with it too much. Even though i could probably make a java app that i could select files and it would upload, just dont really feel like it.

Edit: :P we should switch over to java, much easier and is actually updated! jk, i know that wont happen! :)

I don't see anything wrong with the look or feel of Simba, to be honest. I'm guessing you want it to look like the Java clients?

Also, the entire Simba source is on GitHub.

Switching over to Java? Never. Switching over to Lape? In the works :)

laakerules

2012-05-12 17:36:06

Lol, lape is like a mix of java and pascal combined! :P

No not like the java clients, those go to far. just like the way the base client is set up seems a lil bland and hard to understand for brand new people. And maybe a easier to manuver interface of the menu. jsut my thoughts.

2012-05-12 17:47:23

Lol no it's not, Lape doesn't have any type of Java like "thing" in it.

I personally sort of like the old school look. But updating the looks to some sort of 2012 style Simba bot would be nice. A script manager would be great and it's good too know that there are people working on it.

Meh I suck at GUI's and picking colours but I can program any ideas I guess.. I can skin them like I did to the close button and the menu bar. Yeah my little question mark in the corner is the only button design I could think of :S

The newtab and new folder button is google images lol.. The rest are SystemImages. I highlighted one button to show the back colour when you hover over it.. Damn Missed the debug box but I was going to make that show only when a script compiles or is running.. It's annoying having it there otherwise. Used two programming styles incase ppl argue that it is .Net. A .Net example and a WinAPI example.. I'm sure this can all be done in pascal as well via GDI/Blitbitmap and Dib's.

.Net framework:

WinAPI:

The text editor is just all white it doesn't do syntax highlighting like the above picture shows.. But the GUI itself and the editor is written in WinAPI. The text you see there is Notepad++ Plugin.

I like the winapi one! :P

There is no need to change how it looks in my opinion. It's clean and looks what every program looks like.

"It's"? All of Simba is currently written in Pascal.

FPC prob gets more updates than Java, as well as being much faster.

Lape is strictly Pascal (True Pascal, not this PascalScript crap) with a little C (unions)
Lape is written in FreePascal just like Simba.

I think if we were to revamp simba functionality… I would say lets implement code/smart/console visible in the same window of Simba

lol I was bored, bad typos included :P

@Lakers meh.. I added Icons to the image (edited the previous post) but judging by the comments above, I know it'll never happen so don't get your hopes up lol. May or may not like it :P But hey it's a cool concept lol. Too lazy to scroll up: http://i.imgur.com/DNuO6.png

That's not true. Java gets more updates and is actually used in the real world.. Pascal has more since its old as hell but Java currently gets more. No one uses Pascal anymore. Pascal = 1960's.. Java = 1994. I'd bet anything that most people here learned pascal to script. Other than that, barely anyone knows it or cares about it. I for one wouldn't write anything other than a script or a plugin for Simba, in pascal.

simba is quite fast and its good enough :) I'd prefer speed over looks and I also think its fine.

I was talking about FreePascal specificly, Being from only 1993. Tho, I can't really find a general area to find commits to Java's source =/

FreePascal is used plenty…
I also use it for more than just Simba, Tho I also use C.

Maybe it was an overvaluation to say it gets more updates…

Tho you should look into FP before kicking to Java is better.

I don't even like Java at all but I'll definitely say it's better than FreePascal.. NO ONE besides the guys here uses Pascal.. I know because I worked for IBM and CDI; first day I had to take a test in all the languages I knew.. Know what? They didn't care for Pascal or Delphi and certainly didn't give a shit for Objective-C aka the Apple Language.

They gave me my resume back with all the languages crossed out that they don't care for. One being Pascal. Free or not no one uses it. Only Scar and Simba use Pascal. And I know what FreePascal is as I used to have Lazarus and FPC installed.

I won't bash it cuz we use it and I script with it but tbh moving from Pascal to Lape isn't anything for myself to get excited about. Pascal script to Pascal :P I'm not too fond of dual languages that can be Compiled or Interpreted. Lets be honest; it's used because it's easy.

I'm not gonna say were not one of the big groups that use Pascal, but were not the only one…

https://github.com/search?q=language%3ADelphi&repo=&langOverride=&start_value=1&type=Everything&language=

I can also see why a company like IBM would care less about Pascal as well. That doesn't mean ALL companies don't want it.

Wizzup?

I think even arguing about Java is irrelevant, since it won't end up in the main Simba process, ever. ;)

However, I also think that we could make the Simba client look more pretty. Art / suggestions on how it should look are very, very welcome. Try to keep it organised though - perhaps a new thread where everyone can post their own mockups of the new UI? Doesn't need to be code, gimp skills is enough.
