Last week you may have spotted Mark talking about an exciting addition to RuneScape coming your way. The eagle-eyed among you might even have seen some of the teasers we’ve released over recent weeks. It gives us great pleasure to announce that the evolution of combat is well into development and will be coming this summer. In fact, this update is so huge it promises to be one of the largest content updates in RuneScape’s history!

At RuneFest 2011, Mod Chris L and Mod Rathe discussed the ins and outs of the current combat system, its pros and cons, and the changes that we and you - the players - would like to see. We’ve been working hard since then to completely overhaul and upgrade the combat system; to make it more fluid, interactive and exciting for everyone, and to lay the foundations for the future!

As this is such a significant evolution of the game, we’ll be running our first ever BETA test, starting in the week commencing with the 25th of June. We value your input, and we know you are the best people to tell us what works and what doesn’t.

Next week we'll be sharing many more details and how to get access to the Beta test, so check back in with us and be ready to mark your calendars for the big day!

This is your chance to impact the shape of RuneScape's evolving combat system by giving us your feedback. When the full launch occurs we’ll be re-defining RuneScape and taking the game play and excitement to a whole new level.

Agreed. I hope Rs doesn't turn into a Psudo-wow. They are already starting to, but really Jagex? REALLY? Who knows though, they may pull off something magical, Most of their "big" updates are pretty well thought out.

maybe they are going to have the same fight styles all those other games out there already have.. like world of warcraft, tera online, drakengsang online(Not sure how it's spelled), but at the same time that would be cool since this might give more serious competition to world of warcraft. and maybe who know, they might put them out of business..lol.. that's just what i think.

There is a thread over at RSOF that some guy who attended RuneFest explain the new system. They are making pures useless, defence and armor more valuable, and magic stronger. It is also going to be impossible to go against the combat triangle, a mage will always win against a warrior and a ranger always against a mage. All attack bonuses will be on weapons and your hits per second will increase with your level. It will be a whole lot more balanced compared to the shitty abuseable thing we have now.

if that is true i love it, i hate pures, its useless, i mean why have a 99str 60 att 1 def if you can have a 99 att, str, and def? cause of stake or pvp? you can pvp and stake with all 99´s…

Meh, i've been 138 for a while now - i'll welcome a change in combat mechanics, they're pretty simple and unbalanced in a lot of aspects.

Mmmm. I don't like the looks of this, especially because I really only play RS for PKing, and this would just about destroy my pures. Even so, hopefully I'll be able to max the new Zerker that I started a month ago before this updates goes into effect. *crosses fingers*

I agree, everyone hates them at first, but I just think that is because people hate change in something they play nearly everyday.

If its a beta test, I have to agree no one will like it. If it has to be tested first then it must be a completely NEW way…

Ive finally gotten good at boss fighting and now, we are going to have to relearn it over again…

alot of people are going to quit just like the wilderness update couple years ago especially pkers

I hope they make it so if your a mage theres a way of using hotkeys to switch between spells etc. making the combat more fast paced ,maybe the same with range? Maybe they will release stun weapons for range and melee….

If that is true it will probably make my summoning tank even more overpowered :f: According to my calculations I will have the charms for 86 summoning around three days before June so that's great.

Man and I just started making a pker. This sucks!

I am a little worried about the update, but I have to say that the combat system is in need of an overhaul. The combat triangle is very blatantly unbalanced in favor of melee.

Just like ucantseeme had said, i also get the feeling it may turn into something similar to wow's combat system. I play rs because the combat is simple. all i have to do is click once and it attacks for me. i dont want to have to be dodging and running around in a circle like wow. At the same time though, it may make it more competitive, but honestly, who likes change? If i want change, ill play something else. i play runescape because its simple [compared to the combat of some other games].

The game has the most basic combat system ever, they cant make it any worse then it is really, If you want a good MMO play WoW, or guild wars 2 when it comes out why play Runescape lol.

IF this is the update, I would not mind it at all, sure Most probably will not like it at first but most "big" updates grow on you.

I've always wondered why people play this game legit (there's sooo much better games).

I just farm it cause it's easy IRL $$ lol.
