Scar

Should I consider learning SCAR? I have already developed a sense of howto in SIMBA- but I want a more diverse scripting knowledge. Should I try SCAR or will it mess with my SIMBA scripting? And maybe a couple of links to good tutorials (other than Coh3n's)- maybe one that you personally learned from. Since becoming an SRL member, I thought maybe trying the other side of SRL would be nice. Please post feedback!

Isn't Scar A lower version of Simba?

Why ask?
If it interests you, and you are willing to learn, then why the hell not?

Not much to learn, it's all the same ;)
Though I wonder why you'd waste your time on it.

I don't know very much about it, but I realized I have a few SCAR scripts in my downloads file and would like to know how they work, maybe make a few
They also don't work in SIMBA and have different includes so I don't think it's like SIMBA, but I could be wrong. I just want to know if it's worth pursuing

Its definitely worth it trying if your intrigued.
Wont do much good though.

Its literally almost exactly the same.
Some script you can literally run by changing .simba to .scar on the include.
You can also open.scar on simba and .simba in scar.

I would definitely suggest at least trying SCAR. The differences are not huge as the creators of SIMBA basically made it identical… However, it's much cleaner and more professional. I definitely prefer SCAR over Simba but the include for SCAR isn't updated as often due to the lower activity at those forums… :(
I'm still sad SRL switched from SCAR to simba

I'm not sure why you're saying it won't do much good?

Because its essentially the same as Simba, just less stable.

What's the point? You basically admitted the user base is a lot smaller and that they're identical. Now, if there was some philosophical or moral complaint against Simba I could definitely understand ditching Simba, but it so happens to be that the moral complaints (secrecy, closed source) are only valid for SCAR.

That been said, perhaps you could help making Simba more ``professional'' and more ``clean''. It would be cool if you could at least explain what you find less ``clean'' or ``professional'' about Simba. I'd greatly appreciate that; plus you'd be showing that you aren't actually making stuff up.

You can be sad all you want, but we were sad before the switch to Simba; and in the end, we're the ones keeping this community and the include alive and providing services for free to the public.

If you are doing it to simply further your knowledge of coding/scripting, I would say no, find something of more interest/use. If you have reason to learn it go for it…

Other useful things I would recommend you learn,
-HTML
-CSS

Knowing these will take you somewhere as you can develop a website from nothing into something. Surely this is a totally different field, but if you are trying to extend your coding knowledge isn't jumping into completely new things best?

I say give it a try, most of us have used SCAR in the past and it's basically the same. They have a different include, but it's almost like SRL from what I have heard.

Are SCAR scripts frowned upon in the community? I looked around and I've been seeing a few here and there (Mostly Sir. M8gician)

No, Simba just doesn't support SCAR scripts anymore.

Alright. Thanks Kyle (and everyone else who posted) for the feedback. I'll look into it- but I'll look into some HTML as well.

Read up and do your own research to come to your own conclusions, don't let the views of others shroud your judgement. ;)

Thanks for that little ray of knowledge. I just wanted to know if there are any efficient learning methods for SCAR scripting. My research is at Coh3n's tut- I want a bunch of tutorials to compare with. Some tutorials are easier to read and understand. My judgement is just simply just being guided- not shrouded :)
Thanks though!

You wouldn't ask a tourist for directions would you? Why not talk to the people on the SCAR forums? I'm sure their information about themselves is much more accurate and up to date.
