I don't think the ad is very phenomenal though, really poor representation of the game in my opinion.

wow and the advertisments just keep coming and comming. remember when the only adds they had was the banners on the main page etc. now its in game pop ups, commercials, etc etc etc

It's only going to go downhill from here. As you said it's nothing like the actual game, Just desperation to drag younger children in for more money.

Runescape is trying a new approach (obviously). Back then, everyone who hated Runescape said it had, "Gay graphics." Instead of trying to keep old members, they are updating the game so it will appeal to new comers. Graphics are just the beginning, I'm pretty sure it will be like the sterotype MMORPG's within a year or two.

Pretty much with buy here signs everywhere, and armour/weps you just can't get by working hard.

Wouldn't be so bad if they actually put game footage into the ad, maybe a few NPC models fighting each other or something.. but it seems like they are ashamed of how their game looks.
TBH, the ad looks too "happy" to be placed in RuneScape. When I'm walking around varrock, falador, etc I feel more like I'm in a Skyrim-like setting, rather than .. well, whatever that is. Pokemon would probably be the closest I can think of.
