Hello fellow SRL members, I am in need of assistance. I wanna build a custom laptop for my wife for a late mothers day gift. Does anyone know of a website that is fairly cheap and still get more bang for my buck for customizing a laptop? if so could you post link and your build for one. my budget is 1500 dollars +/- a hundred or two. Please don't give me the computer is better for money lecture. I am aware but, my wife would rather have mobility over desktop. Also No APPLE please. Thank you.

This is the Site I am using,
http://www.powernotebooks.com/configure.php?special=1225

P.S. My official return to SRL and higher activity will soon be coming after I can get my PC back.

Buy an XPS from Dell.com, I customized mine and am happy with it, spent 1.8k on it.

XPS are very nice and not too flashy for females, they are powerful and top quality and durability, I love them.

Please do not buy a 17 inch laptop for your wife, it is not portable not at all.
On some other thread I saw this:

Specs:
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
3rd generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3720QM Processor (2.6 GHz, 6MB L3 Cache)
NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) GT 650M Graphics with 2GB GDDR5 memory [HDMI, VGA]
FREE Upgrade to 8GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
750GB 7200 rpm Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
32GB mSSD Hard Drive Acceleration Cache
Microsoft(R) Office Home and Student 2010
No additional security software
6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery - Up to 6.0 hours of battery life +++
15.6-inch diagonal Full HD Anti-glare LED-backlit Display (1920 x 1080)
FREE Upgrade to Blu-ray player & SuperMulti DVD burner
HP TrueVision HD Webcam
802.11b/g/n WLAN
Backlit Keyboard
HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope

I believe he paid 1,100-1,200
It is a HP. Superior build right there, great for anyone.

I have a Dell XPS 15z and couldn't be happier. It's only a i5, but has like 6GB DDR3 and a solid video card. Also I bought $1000 of dell gift certificates, got a free $100 gift certificate, and the latptop was only ~$1k on dell outlet.

http://outlet.dell.com

You can get laptops with major price reductions (~$300) with no problems. My model is a "scratch and dent" and it looked brand new and is perfect.

Here's something that's around ~$1k these days:

XPS 15 - L502X
Processor: Intel Core i7-2760QM Processor (2.4 GHz,w/Turbo Boost,6MB Cache)
Genuine Windows 7 Professional
XPS L502X
750 GB SATA Hard Drive (7200RPM)
8 GB DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz (2 DIMMs)
8X DVD +/- RW Drive
NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M 1GB graphics

Certified Refurbished

Or a z-model cause they're slim and sexy :D

XPS 15z
Processor: Intel Core i7-2640M Processor (2.80 GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 3.50 GHz)
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium
XPS 15z
1 TB 5400 RPM SATA Hard Drive
8 GB DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz (2 DIMMs)
8X DVD +/- RW Drive
NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M 1GB graphics with Optimus

————————————–

Make sure it has a 1080p screen (~$50-75) more, but well worth it.

well seeing that u want a custom gaming laptop your not going to get very portable however this is probably one of the best portable gaming laptops:
http://www.asus.com/Notebooks/Gaming_Powerhouse/G75VW/

this is also pretty slim but mite be expensive bc its luxary laptop:

my sister just got this one for only $850 last month on ebay only downside is its a little heavy:http://www.asus.com/Notebooks/Gaming_Powerhouse/G53SW/

Well dell outlet has like 50 refurbs with all ranging specs for each model, so if that isn't close enough to "custom" then I guess he could pay someone $300 to build it for him to his spec.

Eww… So many Dell users here. I had a very bad experience with Dell personally… Why not shoot for something smaller, as R4nd0m stated. Get her an ultrabook/zenbook(Asus) of some sort, they're all in the price range which you're looking for.

I was looking a few weeks ago at one for a cousin of mine, he ended up choosing what I told him would be good, and I haven't heard any complaints. If you want something fast, I know it may be a little overkill, but an SSD would be great to have, most importantly, ultrabooks nowdays come with SSD's. I'm assuming your wife won't be that keen on actual disk usage and wants to use it for personal use, right?

If so… check out these two links, I'd recommend one of these (some even come in pink, not sure if that's something she'd like… lol) :

Wow that's pretty good. Ive been thinking of getting something like this for college, but probably without the solid state… I may open a similar thread in a few months.
