Well my laptop crashed (god bless it), and thus my only botting resource is gone :c
It'll take a while for me to find someone to fix it, and even more time to see if the data is reobtainable..
So i'll be having a bit of a hiatus in botting/script writing :(

Rest assured, i'll still be here on a daily basis, raging at leechers, providing support and just being awesome in general.

I really hope I can get it fixed soon :(

So I'm assuming you're on your phone?

Or are you on your computer but without Administrator Privileges to install Simba?

Sorry about your computer. Always a good time to plug backup services though, just get an external hard drive and some backup software and you'd be pretty good to go. Or you could go for cloud backup. Backblaze(backblaze.com) has a pretty good service. $5 a month, that's less than Runescape membership! It's what I use right now, a great service that even supports external drives if you want to back those up. And it's unlimited! I've got 70 gb backed up there! Carbonite(carbonite.com) is another pretty good one. Although they are a little pricier and don't support external hard drives. But it's also unlimited. Do it guys. You don't know when you're going to have a hard drive fail. It's just plain smart.

I heard on my wierd facts app that if you freeze your hard drive (assuming that its not solid state) you can obtain data from it. I don't know if this works but if its screwed I'm sure it's worth a try…
BTW if you are planning on saving it altogether then don't risk this.

And the projects- dayum shaym

It would be the first case were I wouldn't be able to obtain all data from the harddisk. It is isn't that common that the hdd breaks. Do you have a second desktop? If so plugin your harddisk as second disk, that always does the trick.

Also maybe we can help, what is the exact problem you are facing? If it runs through the bios but doesn't start, use an usb stick with ubuntu, it is easy and fast.

It's like it's on a timed..
I hit F2, and it says the 'please wait', but it just shuts off :(

Same problem I had on my desktop a few months ago. I never felt like getting it fixed and just let it sit for a few weeks. Then I hooked it back up to try it and it worked as normla again with all my data intact. Not sure what the problem was though… try taking it to some computer repair company or something to see if they can atleast salvage your drive.

Wow that sucks. Reminds me of the time when my computer crashed a couple days before I had to hand in a couple projects from the past year for a huge map with projects. Lost nearly all of the projects. Fortunately I still got a decent grade after explaining what happened, but I would've gotten a much better note if it didn't crash.

I hope you can get the projects back, most of the times you are able to recover the information from the HDD.

Hope this is a lesson learnt Sin :P
Always have backups.
You should look into a online solution (Dropbox) or if you want you can buy a NAS (Network Attached Storage) and backup your data there (I use a NAS)

Best of luck with getting everything back and running again!

Possibly influenced by the music on the background, ace of spades, I have to advice you not to use back ups. Living on the edge!

Grab another pc (easier said than done, yeah). Crack your hdd out of there and bang it in an enclosure, connect it up to said new pc, you should have all your data nice and safe.

Though if its making a "funny noise" could be a mechanical fault, which hdds are famous for. In which case your data will probably still be fine but you'll have to replace some of the mechanism, most likely the heads, or overpay someone massively to do it for you, if you ever want your precious filez again.

You can get your data back pretty easly you just need some basic knowledge of computers.

my question to you is,

1. u got a desktop pc?
2. Can u easly open the back side of the laptop?

because its pretty easy to build in your laptop harddisk in ur pc and run some recovery tools.

2012-05-07 23:39:10

Just send it into a data recovery company. It's the safest thing. The freezing thing works if you know what you're doing, but if you did you wouldn't be here writing this thread so send it in. Best of luck.
