how do i make a script change the bottom tabs on the screen?

example: change game chat from 'all' to filter
change private chat from 'on' to 'friends'

is there a name for each of the bottom tabs?

setChat('filter', CHAT_GAME);
setChat('friends', CHAT_PRIVATE);
