For anyone who knows a little about computers, I hope they might offer me some advice. Can I use a thermal compound,
,
to use in place of a thermal pad (which is currently cracked, hence my question)?

My cracked thermal pad is shown here;

*Note I use a laptop.

Again, any advice / help is much welcome.

If you can remove the pad without damaging the CPU(which is hopefully possible) you should be able to. I put together my current computer and i used a thermal compound, though it didn't have a syringe like thing, it had a little brush :P

Yes, but be careful when removing the thermal pad.

I'm guessing yes, but does thermal compound alone (without a Heatsink or Fan on top of it) even do much/anything to help with the heat?

Just make sure to be very careful when removing the thermal pad.

I'm just guessing from my experience, never done anything like this before though, seems fine.

No the thermal compound without a heatsink on top of it is useless, but if you have a fan/heatsink, that Arctic 7 compound is great stuff! You'll probably notice a drop in temps.

Well I've appropriately replaced/reapplied the gel, as well as opened the fan (which looked like it was on a tilt, which I think is a sign of "wear and tear" use, aka getting old) but..

Now I don't want to advertise other websites to anyone, but I want to see if anyone can vouch for sparepartswarehouse.com because I found a factory fan that should match mine?

If there's another website that somebody could suggest for practically any laptop (hp) pc parts, it's more than welcome.

EDIT: Nevermind, found the part directly from the HP website, saved me $5 :p
