Cleansing of the Temple

DemiseScythe

"And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all of them who sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves,
And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.”

— Matthew 21:12-13

The narrative of Jesus and the money changers, commonly referred to as the cleansing of the Temple, occurs in all four canonical gospels of the New Testament. In this episode Jesus and his disciples travel to Jerusalem for Passover, where he expels the money changers from the Temple, accusing them of turning the Temple to a den of thieves through their commercial activities. ~ Wikipedia.

Well, I believe the same thing is happening here in Villavu. Villavu is my Holy Temple and Wizzup is my scripting God. There are many people here profanating the house of God with their referral links/ads to script selling websites. Their desecration of Villavu and all that SRL stands up for have gone far enough "through their commercial activities." Why do people get away with desecrating our sanctuary that is Villavu with such devious acts.

If your excuse is that you have "free scripts" on those sites, you can also post those same "free scripts" on Villavu free of cost and share with any member of the community if sharing is your true motivation for giving out those free scripts. You can link to those scripts from your signature just the same by linking to the villavu.com thread where it is posted and gain fans and followers in that manner. Now everyone knows, unless they lived under a rock for the last few months, that the true motive for linking to script selling websites is to sell scripts for personal gain. If you want to advertise your site, that is alright but do it somewhere else, not in the house of God. Keep your ads and links out off villavu.com and go post them on sythe or somewhere else. Do not use the web traffic from villavu.com as a machinery to promote your businesses.

I am sure the founders' intentions of keeping Villavu(SRL) completely independent from script selling are still important to all of us who care and do not wish to see villavu.com taken down by Jagex for profiting off their game. I care about Villavu and it hurts me that people are treating it as if this was sythe or worst. Today I found out that the name of SRL has been completely desecrated:

Although I am currently retired from scripting until further notice, I feel that this matter has gone far enough. This issue is not being taken care of by those who should and although I am powerless in that manner, I can still fight with my code until my words break through to everyone. Today I issue a fair warning to all of those using holy Villavu to push forth their script selling schemes. I do not care who you are or what is your SRL rank, if you choose to link/advertise/sell paid scripts through this website, I will have no choice but to get out my keyboard and my scripting cap once again and I will make superior completely free versions of any paid script in your possession and distribute among RS botting communities until your paid scripts are worthless. There are others who feel like I do, there are others who will do the same I just promised to do, money and wealth corrupts, today I vow to remove this corruption from Villavu once and for all for the benefit of the masses and all paid scripts will become freely available to the World.

If this Continues, Expect Me!

Yeh, I was going through this earlier and was slightly dissapointed.

I mean, S1N can do whatever the hell he wants with his scripts, just don't make a website called SRLMarket, he is not representing what SRL stand for.

Obviously it doesn't hurt me as much as it does you, but I still understand.

@ DemiseScythe: I couldn't of put it better myself.
TBH I did sign up to the site to see what's going on there. I got to say tho what people do outside of SRL, that's fine, in my eye's. Bringing SRL's name into this greed tho could cause problems for this community, a free, open source, learning community. The advertising should not be aloud at all on SRL of this site or premium scripts as it goes against SRL rules to sell scripts here so it should apply to ad's to.

Sorry if you don't like what I say but I care about SRL Forums <3

Nice verse from the bible, and you do have a point.

You remind me of a greek mythology - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Icarus

The main story told about Icarus is his attempt to escape from Crete by means of wings that his father constructed from feathers and wax. He ignored instructions not to fly too close to the sun, and the melting wax caused him to fall into the sea where he drowned.

Isn't SRL meant for us to blend into RS and bot happily while staying in obscurity?

Gala

2012-04-18 11:21:35

So true.
SRL forums (now villavu), was and has been unique since I joined. That was the reason why I came back and started scripting again. I think the "open-source ideology and mentality" is what villavu is made of. We all script for fun in our free-time, having a job in our "real life".
As I saw people selling their scripts, I was really disappointed. I think when everyone would start to sell their script and you have to buy your own SRL include, and share functions for few dolllars and so on, villavu would collapse.

I will make superior completely free versions of any paid script

Would be glad to help.

I don't care what he does as long as he does it offsite. If he stays here and advertises his scripts, I will code and release my own versions free of charge and advertise people to use mine instead and free of cost. Besides this is not just against S1N, there are others and I will end their script selling business with free code if they insist on advertising/linking on this website.

I've already added that we aren't affiliated with Jagex and/or Villavu. That should be good enough..

E*.

Alright, off my playbook and now I can write a length response in return.
The name 'SRL' is NOT copyrighted. I can therefore use the abbreviation as such. For all you could say, I could be reffering to 'Supreme Rastafarian Lunchboxes'.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SRL

SRL is not actually copyrighted to anyone in Canada, therefore I have the right to use it in my domain and/or advertisements.
Secondly, I don't see why everyone is complaining as if I'M the only one doing this.
Take Mat for isntance, his banner is as big as mine and he's been selling on a website since longer. Did anyone complain about him? No.
Also, Smurg. Is anyone complaining about him? No.

Now guaranteed, some cocky person, not saying any names, will raise the point about 'SRL' being in the domain name.
Let's get this clear, IT IS NOT COPYRIGHTED. If any of the admins copyright it, me and toxin will gladly take it off the domain name.

Lastly, the point of WHY i'm selling scripts.
Villavu is filled with leechers, i'm not Christian so I have no bible quote of it, pardon me.
They ask for scripts and give nothing in return. What's wrong with forcing them to pay a bit for our hard work?

@Demise, next time you -rep me and call me a swine, place your name on it alright hun?

Your signature links to a script selling website, that is enough of a link between Villavu and script selling for me to do something about it

Very mature of you:

Not helping your cause to be honest

This is not about you using SRL, I could care less if you used WTF or TFW, I don't want you or anyone else linking to paid scripts, period.

This is not just about you.

Advertising is against forum rules.

Mat signature is gone because it got moderated, the rules applied to him, they do not apply to you?

Smurg, I mentioned using free scripts as an excuse, that includes him, stop feeling so important, its childish

Last, I did not -rep you smartass

you cannot rep someone twice on a row

Yohojo doesn't sell scripts, selling pins is not against Villavu rules, selling scrips is against Villavu rules masterBB and Smurg has link in his signature in hidden in a banner unless it got removed by him or a Mod

Fair enough, all I am against are links to websites where script sales take place, referral links, payperclick links, advertisements and script sales on-site. As long as I don't see those on Villavu.com, I don't mind what people do somewhere else. The name is someone else's battle, not mine. Using SRL in your name is not against the rules afaik but all I listed above is and I prefer not to see those in the future. Thank you.

As soon as someone uses a name or word as a name, the name/word is trademarked. The person who uses it first got the original rights, this usually take long court cases and investigations who used it first, at least on the internet that is. SRL is trademarked, but that doesn't mean he can't use it.

Yea, I am. I actually cleared his (and your) signature a few times. However, you didn't seem to get the hint (na I couldn't be bothered to PM).

I don't want to get too ad hominem, but please, get your facts. Trademarks don't need to be explicitly registered in Canada (or the Netherlands for the matter) in order to be protected. (source). It's actually a Canadian Law Firm.
4. I have a company name. Do I have Trademark protection?
A corporate name does provide some degree of protection against others adopting similar corporate names. However, a provincial incorporation may only provide protection within that province. With respect to a federal corporation, you must establish that the use of another corporate name causes confusion with your corporate name

Because SRL is global, the province part does not apply, it is just protected global. By calling yourself 'SRL Market' you are making it look like you are the official SRL scripts market. You are not, as I am actually the actual official SRL market leader (look at my title, it's there) with full support and cooperation of staff and developers. So you are causing confusion. Besides, you do not have permission of any staff member to use the name 'SRL' in regards to scripts.

In regards to the rules:
Buying and Selling:

Buying or selling of any scripts, services, real world goods, or virtual goods is prohibited.

Advertising is indirectly selling, so prohibited, too.

I don't care that you sell scripts, have fun doing that! I do object against using the name 'SRL' and advertising here without prior permission. Oh and about the permission, you can forget about it now.

edit: lol, didn't like the new avatar? ^-^

We normally keep money making scripts away from leaches, to not crash the economy of Runescape.

  • Only after bot-nuke might our community have an affect on the runescape econommy
  • Why is making software for profit bad and why do you consider it being "greedy"? I really don't understand this because there were also plenty of free scripts on RSBuddy.
  • Yah, being taken to court and sued for all your earnings vs. keeping it and then getting employed (seriously, is that even a question?).
  • Why didn't Bill Gates released Windows for free, Steve Jobs release Mac OS for free, why isn't everything free? Because they have a product people want, and it took them time and money to make it.

And I don't know why I was involved in this discussion. Putting a link in a my signature to my website where I offer free scripts is in no way against the rules.

And Markus, if you want people to get what you're trying to do, then PM them. Deleting a signature with no word from you leaves me just going "what happened?", followed by replacing it.

Also, news flash, people have bills to pay. Selling others a solid product that took them time and money to make doesn't make them "evil", "greedy", or "snakes". I know a lot of Runescape communities are based on traffic from middle schools and high schools, but when you grow up, mommy and daddy don't (shouldn't) support you forever.

We have a lot of people that have donated much time on this forum to make community includes, programs, and tutorials, (all free) and they are applauded for that. But because someone doesn't release 100% of their efforts for free doesn't make it wrong.

I never said making software for profit was wrong at all.
I just want THIS community to stay away from making money as it's more like a learning community here.
Ok I didn't know that he was given that choice, get sued or take the job. In that case I understand and would do that my self. I'm sure he went to runefest and showed a working bot and that's why he got hired ?

Well that's obvious, I know all about bills sadly enough. Have been paying bills for the last 8 year which I worked for the local government and after all that time they told me and another 1000+ other people we had to go because of cuts in the so called budget.
I've seen what money causes, thats why I say them things (that's all I'm going to say about that).

Well when you put it that way your right about he just gave a product that people want. But I have always thought things like what we do is not really meant to be for just any Tom, Dick and Harry.
I know he didn't rip people off, just used there want for his profit and not caring what the consequence's would be to Runescape.
He made it massively commercial and ten's of thousands of people use it. That's what I mean by a monster BTW.

Anyway sorry if I got on the wrong side of anyone. I do take in what others say and learn as I know I'm not always right.

Heard of open-source communities of Linux? They invested time, too. And what they created is a OS equal to Mac OS and Windows. (I use Mac OS btw) I know what you mean: to get paid for an idea or for work done. But I read several biographies of those two, and it was not that simple how they got there, where they are now.. (or was)
And the question if the economic system as we know it nowadays will last another 20 years is another one.. (Even the biggest capitalists say that)

I must admit, I thought about it, to sell scripts by myself. But I don't think it is really fitting into this community.

This was only my opinion. I think it is fine for the most people, if you don't link to your site.
