Hello,

Tag notes says it all:

$ git tag -l -n10 simba-0.99-rc4
simba-0.99-rc4 Simba 0.99-rc4:

- Lape improvements and changes.
- EIOS additions.
- Fixed DTM loading problems.
- SQLite support and fixes.
- DTMExists/BitmapExists.
- Other bug fixes.

This release carries some important bug fixes to DTM loading in particular. If you've made DTMs with any of the previous 0.99-rc's, you'll probably need to recreate them with 0.98 or >0.99-rc4. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Also, this release carries quite some lape changes and should work as is with the SRL-Lape branch. ( http://villavu.com/forum/showthread.php?t=79317, SRL Members thread)

Moreover, this release should also allow you to macro on other platforms than win32. (Using lape and the SRL-Lape branch!!!) With SMART 7.0 (not yet in the auto updater), you can use the EIOS support in Simba to macro on Linux x86, x64. It should also work on windows but there appears to be some issue with SMART 7.0 EIOS on Windows for now.

It should be noted that the threading behavior is not very optimal on Linux at least, so you may very well experience crashes. This is being worked on and an inconvenience. Nevertheless, Simba should be usable.

Sounds interesting. FYI it's a very generic error and I can't really tell you what it is just like that. How did you install the new version? Was it a clean install? (If not: please don't throw away your Simba folder, I'd like a copy of it so I can test it with your setup)

Ah ok, fair enough.

I uninstalled the old Simba and did a fresh, as I always do with a new RC.
Just to say I'm on windows 7 32-bit and I installed Simba to a folder on my desktop. I don't mind sending you a copy of it, if you need it.
If there is anything else I could do to help just let me know.

Right, nice find. I really hope this is the case. :)

Jakkle, can you confirm this please? If this is the case, then we should look at SMART for this particular error. Simba tries to free the SMART client and it doesn't go well.

Jakkle, if this is indeed the case - try simply starting Simba and making sure it doesn't start SMART. I don't think Simba will load smart if you say, just open Simba and run the default empty script. But the code hints may do that, so be wary of that too. Either way, see if downgrading java helps please?

Ok Wizzup, I will go and have a gander and will edit this post when I have any info.
@ggzz I didn't quite get your other post on the rc3 thread. Thanks for hopefully finding the problem tho :)

Edit: With changing nothing. I open Simba then click play, on the empty script. I then closed Simba and it's fine.
So I opened Simba again and loaded a script of mine. I closed simba (without clicking play) and got the error.
I'm now going to check my java and change it if I need to. I could of sworn I have java 6 tho, not 7.
Well I will edit this post again after I have done a few other things.

Edit2: I just checked my java and it's 6.31 here is a pic of all java things I have on my computer.

Any thoughts ?

Edit3: I have found the problem :) It only happens when I load a script with {$ i SPS/SPS.simba} ;)
It took a bit of thinking but I realised when I opened up srl include files it didn't crash so thought it must be my script.
So I loaded a script without SPS in and it didn't crash, realising it must be that :).

Try each of the following things:

  • Remove libsmart from the plugin folder. Retry.
  • If it still happens, remove libsps from the plugin folder. Retry

If it no longer happens when removing libsmart, it's a smart issue. If it no longer happens when both libsmart and libsps are gone, it may be libsps. In that case, try putting libsmart back in the Plugins/ folder again and load a script with smart.

E: Also, we changed a few plugin related things just after 0.99-rc4. Try http://nala.villavu.com/downloads/master/6edccdf9ca575d50c243b52f602b6cfa9dcd3860/ some time as well. (But please do what I described first)

I removed libsmart and it still came up with the same error.
I then put libsmart back and removed libsps and got no error.
It must be libsps then.

Edit: I went to the link you gave and installed 'SimbaInstaller.i386-win32.exe-2012-Apr-17 23:34:49' I still get the same problem. It's definitely libsps thats causing the problem.

Perhaps SPS does not reset its old memory manager? I'll look into this.

Not to sure tbh, how would I find out if that's what might be happening ?
Coh3n made the newest libsps ? maybe a good idea to talk with him.
I hope we can get this sorted out soon. Saying that tho SPS works.
It's just not, let's say, able to close LibSPS it has to force close it instead, not sure.

I had a similar thought. I looked earlier today; it doesn't.

What do you mean it doesn't reset its old memory manager? This is the first I've heard of something like this. I just thought you had to add the SetMemoryManager in the plugin.

How can I download this? I'm stuck with .98 and no scripts will run on it, when I try and click on the download links here it brings up a "403 Error".

Well, I've spent two more painful hour of debugging (on windows in qemu over vnc). I've found out a few things…

  • Calling OnDetach works when loading the plugin (I just made it print 'hello'); but it doesn't work in FreePlugins; (obviously before actually freeing the plugin).
  • gdb can't help me because it produces an endless backtrace. (SPS!GetFunctionInfo is the only thing in the backtrace)
  • Because OnDetach is never called, I can't be sure it solves the issues.
  • When I simply put ``exit'' in the FreePlugins function (e.g. let FPC free the plugins itself), there are no issues at all.

Thoughts? I'd appreciate them.

2012-05-10 15:53:09

Okay, this is fixed - thanks to Nielsie95 for finding the issue.
I've also taken the time to rewrite some of the plugin code. It isn't exactly nicer to read right now; but I don't think I introduced new bugs.

As of this Simba, three different ABIs are supported. Every plugin should eventually target the latest ABI (2); ABI 0 and ABI 1 are provided for backwards compatibility only.

See this page for a more detailed explanation: http://docs.villavu.com/simba/simbaref/plugins.html

I've updated SPS to be compatible with ABI 2 (which means it won't run with any Simbas that are older than the one linked below; but never fear, I'm not going to push this to the repo until 0.99 is released and most people have updated.)

Commit: https://github.com/SRL/SPS/commit/dde883da3eee4f0ebb7054916b268b35447d54fa

Here's the new (fixed) Simba:
Please test http://nala.villavu.com/downloads/master/a41409058460b595ab773b0c2ecc860859477c3f/

Please test it a bit; I want to be sure I didn't break any existing plugins. ;)
I've tested SMART and SPS and they both work (load) fine.

Has anyone compiled and tested the new SPS plugin with Simba 0.99? I got an access violation on SPS_FilterMinimap. The old plugin works just fine, though (with 0.99).
