Junior Members

Before I get someone saying anything about how there is ALREADY a topic; I would just like to say sorry but I wanted to re-organize it all into one topic here.
—-

Junior Members: Right now this is a DEAD rank, serves no purpose other than to house members who have been here a while/people who show promise but not enough to become a member.

Proposition: Bring it to life! Create an announcement stating the JR. Member is back, this rank will hold a Jr. Members script section etc. (I will post a template after we discuss what needs to be on it)

Things to have in the Jr. Members section
  • Scripts Section
  • Discussion Area
  • "What this forum area is" Section
  • Expectations

Scripts section: Scripts THEY create, I often hear they want a place to put scripts and share but not leached.

Discussion area: Its always a perk.

What this forum is: Simply that.

Expectations: Stating congrats you are "so and so" but now that you EARNED/Received this rank we want you to continue your ways etc.

It's a great motivation for newcomers as they don't need to write a complex and functional script to get a sense of rising in the ranks. It's definitely a good thing to have a rank for people who want to take things slow but still feel as though they're achieving something within the community.

I agree 100% :)

IIRC the only reason it was 'taken away' was due to lack of overall forum activity at the time.

I would say we have more than enough activity to warrant the use of the junior member rank again. :)

I've often thought that public scripts should go back to being the non-banking scripts as well. There are still plenty of scripts that can be made without banking, and this also adds a bit more 'value' to the ranks.

I support this, by further separating the leechers from the beginning script writers and active forum users we can give those who want to improve themselves an intermediate section between newbie and SRL member.

I agree 100% :)

People have been agreeing 100% for long enough that we should have this rank by now :P

Why did it get shut off in the first place? low forum activity?

The only think I wonder about is if we really need another board on here for scripts. Too bad we can't have one board for scripts and post options to select who gets to see it so that at least everything is in one place.

I vehemently disagree if people think this is going to accomplish anti leech somehow and if members think our forum needs more divisions.

I have a hard enough time finding stuff on here as it is

Trololol l2search!!
But not really, I find that Hobbits/WtF/Wizz have done a marvelous job on forum arrangement and that everything is grouped together nicely.a

We may just need to be re-indexed, it seems things are a bit a stray. A few of the groups on this forum are pretty identical such as banned from RS should just be a sub category of General.

No. It only causes massive spam of people who just want their 10 posts so they can get the scripts. The current requirements (100 posts/3 months) aren't even met by quite a few new SRL Members so from that point of view it would be unfair to do.
Also it caused a lot of work with post count resets and such. And leechers will be leechers, they get into jrs. then leech, or get their scripts from pastebin, or whatever.
If you got some suggestions for a new interpretation of the rank, they're welcome of course.

tl;dr Won't return in it's old or current form. New ideas are appreciated.

I think they need something, to motivate them. What if we halfed the requirements for JR Member and then had a section?

I disagree. I don't think the requirements should be halved.

I haven't been here long enough to witness the Junior Members in full power(lol) but what I have seen, is Junior Members with less than 100 post count and less than 5% Activity.

Do these people deserve to get their own board? I don't think so. All they did was create an account a few months ago, stayed active for a week and then left.

Just an example, this guy:
http://villavu.com/forum/member.php?u=8779
The last time this guy was online was a few days ago, where he posted in the public poll saying he missed the Jr.Members section.

Having said that…. there are many which do deserve their own section because not only have they been here a long time, they have also been active and kept the community alive - which is why I don't know which way to vote.

Kyle Undefined

2012-04-12 09:11:57

Before you joined, the requirement for JR Member was only 10 posts (not spam) and a week of being here. They had their own section, why shouldn't the new people?

Jakkle

2012-04-12 10:55:17

Well I think they should have their own section. There could be, as-well as, post count and how long you've been at SRL, activity. If you have your activity in the yellow zone plus 100 posts and have been at SRL for more than 3 months. When dropping into the green zone for activity they are warned that they have a week to get back into the yellow zone or you will be demoted. What do people think ?

Edit: You could say but what about a member why shouldn't that happen to them ? True, but a member is a member because of an application to prove they have what it takes to be a member.

Cus that just generates spam and unnecessary pressure ?

There's no point in having JMs, unless the point is to take away stuff from newly registered members. And JMs the way they used to be was pretty much newly registered members anyway.

Also keep in mind that JMs have access to the black market atm, which is already a big perk, were our markets more active.

Or it would make sure people post feedback, stay more active if they are actually interested in getting a decent script and will be generally more involved in the community and helping out.

If you could sign up to a site and get the scripts you want without having to get involved at all that creates mass leeching. Most of them when posting all they do is complain the script ain't working and not really give a explanation, progress report or sign up to SRL stats.

If you reward people for doing certain things they feel good and they will carry on trying to help out because they know as well as them getting something out of it so do others (the scripters).

I'm on blackcats-games which is a torrent site in which you have to upload what you have downloaded in order to stay on the site. If you don't your not helping the community so they get rid of you. Just an example of when you follow the rules it benefits you and the community in the long run.

There's no point in having JMs, unless the point is to take away stuff from newly registered members. And JMs the way they used to be was pretty much newly registered members anyway.

I do see where your coming from but if that's all a Junior member is then why is there a one ? why not just have 'newly reg users' and 'reg users' then.

Also keep in mind that JMs have access to the black market atm, which is already a big perk, were our markets more active.

Ok yeah that is a big perk, I agree with that.

I think that jr members should have their own script section personally. Or keep it how it is and only allow the first script section to none Jr/srl member ?..

You see this is why I voted 'I'm confused'.

Junior Members are Junior Members because they show promise, but haven't shown the ability to create working scripts (else they'd be members).

So what's the point in having a section full of people who show promise but only 10% of them can actually script? Yes it would motivate them to learn how to script for their section, but wouldn't that mean that majority of the scripts would be of a low level, thus meaning that there would be no difference between the quality of scripts in the Public section and the Junior Members section. This means, it won't actually make any difference to stop 'leeching'

Kyle Undefined

2012-04-12 12:28:31

Like stated before, Jr Members really means nothing now. It use to mean that you were patient enough to wait a week before getting scripts that could bank. I'd say that 90% of the Jr Members you see now were that rank before the change.

Yes Jr Members are Jr Members because they show promise and help out by posting good feed back and progress reports, that's the start of the adventure here. This community to me is all about learning and helping each other out, not leeching. So if there is things that can be done to show who's willing to want to learn and help then surely that's good ? And they should be rewarded, not with just a title but with an area where other people like them are, if you get what I mean ?

I don't think that scripts in that section would be of low level, they are there because the script writer more than likely want's to learn more to become an SRL member so the scripts would be improving all the time to make it apply-able for SRL members. There are also people that are just extremely helpful that stay on the forums to help as much as they can if they can. They deserve to be a Jr Member to because where would the script writer be without these very helpful people :p

Too big of a hassle, WAY to many people/if you want extra sections you would need to mask their current rank with another.
-

What about two months + 100 non spam posts/15 of which in help section/30 of which are in areas NON runescape related (No idea if vb can tell the difference)

What if we make the Junior member rank by request only… to eliminate the spam. That way we can use our junior's outlook section, give JM's a section, and eliminate the spam that people will do just to get JM.

I am guessing members+ will have their inboxes spammed with those requests. PM spam wont be much better than general thread spams

JM's don't know that there's a JM lookout… At least I didn't

Edit: And in the rank guide, you can say don't ask to be one(a JM) or you won't get in … Then people won't ask. I mean, people don't PM other to become members.

Nope didn't happen to me o.o, and we could do 3 "Yes's" to become a Jr. Member. It could be like how SRL members but on a much more laxed pace they just need to post, then 5 SRL members need to vote yes with 0 no's. etc.

'Toxin

2012-04-13 17:37:09

It'll help separate those at which are not SRL Members, and have scripting capabilities versus those which are here purely to leech. It'll make those scripters feel almost as if their scripts are as well prestige in a way. To be honest, they should have a section the same as we do, not auto jr-memberize based on posts.

E: Totally up for this… hope y'all got that from my post.

I totally agree with Yago on this. I was thinking this the other day after I posted on here and seen 2 people in the JM lookout forum. I thought why not make it the members+ choice on weather they deserve it or not.

I actually liked having the JM rank due to being accessed to Junior Member Scripts, and newly registered would access scripts that wouldn't bank (Public Free Scripts).

Downside is less traffic for the scripts, more spamming, and a lot more issues would be created (just woke, too early to think ;) ).

I didn't voted no.

Well I got like four or five people inboxing me- it wasn't really spam but then I had to reply back and then they replied back to me and then I had to reply back to them and then they replied back to me - you get the point, I started the same conversations with different people, very annoying. One of the guys told me to sennd him my app :cartman:

All I did though was copy+paste the advice I gave to one guy to the next guy and so on…:p Here's what I copy and paste:

From: abu_jwka

Want some tips?

If you want to apply, show maturity, if someone gives you feedback, thank them for it. Also, once you get a sufficient amount feedback, update the script you are applying with to show them you have eagerness to learn.

If you apply with a script (a must), just make sure there are no FindObject functions (replace with TPA's) and that it has walking.

Having the above should get you in quite comfortably.

I also realised you've been here around five months - so you don't need to worry about them saying you're too new - which is almost always stops good scripters from getting in ;)

I edit the last part slightly depending on their longevity :p
