[ Hidden Update ] G.E. Resell Limit
Before today, we were able to buy an items from he grand exchange, and sell it back on the ge instantly.
As of today, April 11 2012, you now have to wait 4 Hours to sell an item back on the ge if you just bought it from the ge. This is a hidden update. Go try it for yourself.
What does this mean?
This means you can no longer flip items more than once in a 4 hour period.
This basically kills flipping certain items like Bandos and Dragon claws, which were fast moving items that had low margins. You made up for the low margins because of the quantity traded. However now you can no longer buy more than 10 every 4 hours, so the profit from them will be minimal.
Video proof of it

Hell yea! I hated how you could make large amounts of money just by buying and reselling items. The more cash you had, the more you earned (rich get richer…). I like the update since it encourages people to go earn their money "legit" by skilling or killing monsters :)
Thanks for sharing :)

It's not really pathetic to dislike a moneymaking method that messes so hard with the economy. Legit users have to pay a lot more for different items because people who don't need the items they need are buying them out. Flipping only causes harm to item prices for legit players, and helps add more inflation to the game which isn't a good thing.

K I have to agree with Tico on this. I disliked the GE from day one anyway. I'd rather sit in fally park and try to buy an item than have GE blow up everything. Jagex might as well remove the GE if they're going to do this.
People no longer have to be online at all to make money. You just have to come on for 2 seconds, place ur crap on GE.. come back hrs later, repeat with the money gained/lost. That just made items cheaper. Everyone can get items easy through the GE where as before, they were more rare AND you have to go to seers or fally to get what you needed and spam the keyboard with whatever u needed.. Actually had competition for buying rather than having the rich guys place large amounts of money for a large amount of items all at once..

I for one agree with this. This WILL crash some prices 20-30%, no longer will they be kept at high levels due to rich people. Jagex has been reducing the amount of money people can make by doing absolutely nothing. And I love this update for that. This should help stabilize the market from the merchers.
Although if they were smart they would just increase the revenue per item to make up for the loss in quantity. ;)

I only ever flipped rune plates when I was level 50 or so, so flipping isn't that hard on me, especially with all the good prices now.
My advice: buy up on the huge amounts of cheap stuff, and then when jagex realizes the mistake theyve made, sell it back at a huge profit.

False, it does take no skill and no time. 7 years ago, people use to have to spam buying in fally then spam selling. Do you see people spaming buying 100k deaths? no, aka very different. People made money for doing nothing.

So, understanding what is going to happen to an items price within the next 10-15 minutes and implementing a change on that item that will stop you from losing money and actually profit from that item takes no skill.
I take it you've never flipped before. It's time consuming it takes quite a while to actually find a few good items to flip that have a steady price and a steady profit margin even then you have to have reserve items just in case your original items profit margins collapse.
To actually make a lot of money you have to constantly be watching your buy/sell offers thinking about what the others merchants are going to do whether you should do a price check/lower/raise your current sell/buy price again or just wait a couple minutes and see if it'll start buying/selling.
I know a few people that have actually lost money flipping because they don't fully understand the concept so they start to hate on people that make millions flipping. I don't hate on people with high runecrafting that are able to craft double nature runes. So players shouldn't hate on me for using something that JaGEx implemented into the game.
There are countless videos, tutorials, etc willing to help you learn how to flip but you have to have a certain mentality and a lot of patience, which kids these days don't have, to actually become a decent merchant that makes a hefty sum of gold.
Please don't talk rubbish about flipping when you don't fully comprehend it. All it's doing is making you look silly.

Flipping actually required skills… you had to get your own personal list.. which meant trial and error… this list could change with a click of a finger… if you risked it and went big and the market crashed you'd lose mills….

I completely agree with this. Comparing the old school merchanting in fally to merchanting using a GE is ridiculous. Do people honestly believe sitting in fally with an autotyper and accepting trades was more difficult then the flipping using the GE today? Time consuming does not mean more difficult. I can say that doing small flips is not very hard, but actually making it worth your time is what makes it hard.
This is why people that can make 1M+ an hour probably don't merchant because they don't need it. They may also look down on because people can make more than they can. I am not saying this as fact, but merely as a possibility.
Merchanting/flipping can also be very similar to monster hunting. Both require skill and both will make a lot of money through simple dumb luck. People will get consistent drops that will make them profit, but receiving sigil drops or a dragon full helmet is what really puts them ahead. Flipping generally works the same way finding decent flips that keep some money coming in, then finding one that really gives you a good amount.
The case can also be made that the rich get richer in things like monster hunting as well. If you get better drops, which get you better gear, which allows you to kill faster, which gives more drops, then it is pretty much creating the same system merchanting works off of.

This update sucks so bad.
This might only eliminate mindless "pick item from most traded list -> test margin -> buy and sell according to margin" flipping. Anyone who really tries hard may be able to create large lists of flipping items that will suffice for an entire 4-hour period even under this new system, and those people will probably be able to make a lot more profit now (as margins should be larger with less of those mindless flippers buying and selling every item = harder for regular players to buy/sell their stuff = regular players willing to sell lower/buy higher than before)
