What should I go with for CPU and Memory Usage?
Is windows 8 any better than windows 7 on your memory?

Cause atm it seems Ive got 26% Memory usage already on start up and I have 8 GB of ram and INTEL Core i7-265QM 2GHz with turbo boost up to 2.9GHz

Windows 8 is bad. Leaks quite a bit of memory, and uses more to begin with if I recall correctly. Use Windows 7.

Ubuntu is pretty good, but it can limit you depending on your common activities. Doesn't require a ton of background knowledge and is very aesthetically pleasing IMO. I think that Windows 7 is the best from that list, though.

I'd say install Windows 7, but do a small partition or something of Ubuntu. Just try it out ;)

If you are a windows fanboy, stay with W7, if not, try Ubuntu :)

You don't need to go as far as dual booting Ubuntu: burn off one of these bad boys and you can use a live session any time you want to try it. You can also install from this disc.

You sure you got a 64-bits Windows? Else you can't really use all of those 8GB RAM :)

Format it or whatever as it's only using 55% at my 2gb system with quite a lot of things open.

If it's a laptop, dual boot Debian/Windows 7. If it's a desktop pc, just stay with Windows 7. And as someone has already said, 64-bit OS.

Ubuntu!
But go with an older version. That stupid unity bar is annoying beyond belief.

When logging in click the gear, then click Ubuntu Classic.

If theres not a gear, it's a dropdown selection box at the bottom of the screen to the right.
