My laptop made a clunking sound when I tried to disk defrag.. what do I do from here? Take it to get fixed? or try to fix it? advice welcomed

Is it working right now?
Open My Computer, Right Click the drive, click properties, and go though the tabs and look for an 'Error Checking' tool. Might be a sign that your hard drive is dying.

I'd take a section to back up all of your important things immediately!

Unless you get a lot more specific I suggest you have a local computer store fix it.

Weird, I did the update thing, but I had to restart first.
Also usually have my laptop at a 30 degree angle, friend told me to put it on a flat surface.

Restarted computer, saw a brief glimpse of the scan drive screen, but it went away fast. Computer isn't clicking anymore though o.o

Only moving parts would be Fan(s) or the hard drive.

Maybe google for some 3rd party disk checkers and stuff (lolz I'm not even sure if they check for physical damage or not though)

Maybe HDD is starting to fail.
Run some HDD scans on it (S.M.A.R.T).

I don't believe they do.

when defragging on my 2 year old comp it makes a different noise, and the cpu gets maxed to 100% i think its normal tbh

Does your disc drive work? My grandmother's computer made a similar sound when the disc drive died.

Backup sounds like you are going to experience a hdd failure soon.

I was optimistic about my experience from the thing YoHoJo said, so I redid what he instructed and it ran a lengthy test thing after I rebooted.

Also made a backup (took forever) that's several gb large..

My laptop did something like that, I had to bang that piece of junk(IBM Touch ;) ) with my fist really hard and it worked like a charm until my laptop screen light went out :X

Took apart & reassembled with a new cpu fan, computer is workin like a charm!
