Here is a tweet by an unknown Jagex Mod:
"@RuneScape Some have already gotten 1M+ in skills. How's this fair to the players who worked so hard for our skills?"
"@brandonpichette Your achievement is still more impressive. I hope that you had more fun playing the game to achieve your goal!"
Obviously they see how this "buyable XP" is affecting the game and they don't care.
Its disgusting. He shows little remorse except - "LOL, Well i hope you had alot more fun than those guys that bought their way to the top!"

You can now purchase extra spins for the Squeal of Fortune with real life cash - you get XP lamps from the Squeal of Fortune quite often, hence "buyable XP".

Blablabla, you find it disgusting that people can buy XP, since it's devaluating the skill, yet you are right here, on a forum that develop script to accomplish the same damn thing.
Pick a side and stick to it.
My script do exacly what the wheel of crap does: Make it quick and easy to gain XP without working. Are my script disgusting? To someone who take the game seriously, maybe.
I don't give a damn about this update really, and I don't get why everyone is so pissed about it. If you are so addicted to this game that you feel the need to spend hundreds of dollars to gain xp, so be it.
I don't pitty those who can't buy spins, I pitty those who feel the need to buy spins.

But the thing is, its impossible to get 150k/hr+ xp in RuneCrafting with ANY current training method. As when you buy the XP you can easily get it within 20-30 minutes. Giving people who are 'wealthy' in real life an unfair advantage.
I really don't care much for this update as I believe RuneScape is coming to the end of its gaming cycle. I will still play/bot for pure enjoyment.

But how is that any different from botting? Botting give you an unfair advantage. I got tons of level with bot, levels that I would never get legiting because the skill just suck so bad.

Because
anyone with a computer can gain this 'unfair advantage'. You don't need to pay to become a member on Villavu, you don't need to pay for the scripts that are released. You don't need to pay to run Simba.

Well, to get the good (there is good script in the free section, but since I'm not a member I'm just assuming from what I've head that the script in there are even better), you need to be a good scripter to either make them yourself or become an SRL member. Not everyone can be a good scripter. Not everyone has time to learn how to script.
For other bot, like RSbuddy, you had to pay to get good script like idung pro. You might say it was relatively cheap but it doesn't change the fact that not everyone has 15$ to put on a bot.
Was botting with Idung pro so much more unfair because you had to pay for it?
At this very moment, while writing this, my account is training agility, one of the most hated skill, at the near maximum XP rate possible. Absolutely no effort. I made the script myself, which is currently private. That's unfair for everyone who can't script.

You would be surprised at the scripts that are released in the Members section.
Also to gain SRL membership status, its not all about the script, its about attitude to other members, activity and many other more.
IIRC you could get someone to 'gift' you iDungPro meaning you could still pay RSGP to get this. No IRL cash transaction on your behalf.

Yes I know that to become a SRL member you also need to have a good attitude, but you still need to know how to script, and you won't make it with a simple 100 line autotalker script.
About the IRL cash transaction, you could do pretty much the same thing for the squeal of crap. Sell your RS gold for IRL cash, then buy spins.
It's the same thing, only the other way around.

First of all, no one here is whining. Second of all, how would you feel if you worked extremely hard (putting months into your characters play time) just to have someone buy their way to your same stats with only a fraction of the effort and time. This is why the RuneScape community is upset.
Basically, you shouldn't be able to buy yourself into a game especially RuneScape. Your financial status in real life should have no reflection on your in-game experience/financial status (besides being a member of course).
And one more thing, please reread my first post and you will realize this post isn't the same as the other. I was talking about a specific topic until someone came trolling.

You were talking about buying XP and how it affects the game, how it is unfair that some gain XP with no effort while other worked hard to achieve their goal. In reality, this is precisely what bots do. Bots affect the game no matter how hard you try to "blend in" and how hard you try to reduce your impact.
In your first post, you could replace "buyable xp" by "botting" and it would fit perfectly, because both "technique" achieve the same result and are equally unfair.
The majority of this community bot, so this means that we do not really care about the impact we have on the game. Everyone here who bots must share this idea, else they would find botting "disgusting" and would refrain from botting. You are basicaly saying that we should be ashamed of what we do and how we impact the game. Some might say that they do care about the game, and they try to reduce their impact but if they really cared about the game and keeping it fair, they wouldn't bot.
You didn't say it directly, but it's not hard to read in between the lines when you make it so obvious. Also, how is explaining my position on this matter "trolling"? Your position is logic, but as soon as we disagree with you we are trolling? Doesn't make much sense to me.

No one complained about Idung costing money, why should we complain about extra spins (Which you CAN get for free) costing money.
the problem is not just with squeal of fortune..look at where jagex is heading:
1. Vanity items from purchasing membership with specific methods, or through runefest (most legits dont mind it anyway since vanity dont really gives u any advantage in game)
2.Loyalty programme, though its still limited to membership purchase and every members have equal opportunity to be involved as long as they remain member (the fact that begin member is an unfair advantage cannot be objected)
3. 10% bonux xp for 1 week by paying ~$5 (the first time in rs history where u can buy an unfair advantage legally. Still not too much of impact since its only 10% and capped at 5 times/year)
4. SOF which can theoretically give huge loads of xp within a short time frame. Due to the price/xp ratio however, not many will do it so it wont impact the game that much (still possibly rather significant)
5. Soon jagex will be more direct in selling gp or xp, they dont want to give players a shock by releasing this straight at the start so they try to let players get used to it by the above 3 progressive methods.
6. And even as they sell gp or xp, they would realise that their rate are still not as attractive as those goldfarming sites (both gp and xp wise), so they would start selling at competitive rates, which in turn, the goldfarming sites will also lower their price (i.e. price war). Then jagex may release abilities etc that can only be obtained through direct purchase from them (eg. $100 to unlock the ability to fletch while running, attack twice faster etc–you already see how u can get special abilities with auras from loyalty? they may sell better auras directly through cash).
Jagex is inevitably going down the slippery slope, and it would not be long before price crash to $1/10m, and probably most legits will quit and ppl wont even bother to bot anymore, the game just ends. This is not a doomsday kind of prediction, i have seen it happening in another mmorpg.
So why is jagex, who supposedly care about the future of rs, doing this?
It may seem extremely hard for most players to understand even on the maximising profit thought, as most ppl would feel that this surge in revenue would be short term and not worth the long term decrease in membership.
The answer, obviously lies with information that only jagex would know.
Imagine if they gather some statistics like this:
1. The total cost of operation of the jagex company is $100k/year and the total revenue is $1m/yr.
2. The total cost of operation of goldfarming sites is $10k/yr and total revenue is $5m/yr.
3. On average, players spent $15/mth purchasing bots/golds, and $5/mth purchasing membership.
4. Other such related statistics.
(note: all these numbers are purely fabricated)
They are obviously going to conclude that rs players nowadays are rich and would be willing to spend more than just $5/mth on a game that they are addicted to, and so together with other commercial reasons they decide to divert these player expenditure from goldfarming/botting sites TO THEMSELVES. And they may believe that this could in fact benefit the future of rs as there will be more capital for content implementation and game development, and since the money is going to be spent on goldfarming sites anyway, why not try to keep them within jagex? (which may be at least used to develop the game) And to think further, attempting to compete with goldfarming sites and let them run out of demand would reduce the dominance of these sites and hence reduce goldfarm botting. There are probably alot issues that they considered and we have not so think deeper and u may have a better understanding of what they are trying to do (though its not necessarily that it is the right thing to do).
As for my personal view (and many others) on this, it would be meaningless as we really knows virtually nothing of the behind the scenes, and unless jagex would give us more information (or hopefully just explain the comprehensive discussions that lead to this decision, no 1 can really say for sure whether this would benefit the future of rs.

Really? Comparing botting to buying SoF spins? People willingly bot knowing it's against the rules with the possibility of being BANNED. Buying SoF spins is ENCOURAGED by Jagex. There is an extreme difference between these two things and they really aren't comparable…
But, ontopic, I've been browsing the RS forums recently because of this update and it seems 99% do not like it, the other 1% consist of trolls and people that sincerely support it. Personally, I think I saw one JMod reply to the subject, and even then it was kind of pushing the problem away and not directing the issue..
General consensus is, nobody approves and Jagex is ignoring it.
Also, @riwu, could you space out your post some more? Annoying to read.

Well think about what you are saying for a second. I just said i don't care if someone bought their way to higher stats than me. People have been doing this in all mmos since they have been created. Just because there is a "legal" pathway it means that people should be upset about it?
Runescape is no different than any other game. You cant say that buying yourself in runescape is worse than doing it in something like WoW or CoD. So buying your stats is different than having the knowledge to write a script to buy your stats? Either way someone better at something is getting better stats.
I guess i will repeat myself again. There is another thread about this. This is in no way meant to put down your thread. It is simply an honest attempt at letting you/other people know that there was one created if you/other people happened to miss it.

For some reason people have an issue when jagex provides a way to gain exp over the illegal methods. Similar to saying that they prefer illegal drugs over legal drugs (drugs being the same in both cases). Seeing the direction runescape is going, it is a smart idea on their part to move towards microtransactions, especially little things like this that provide something that doesn't really affect other players very much. There may be some issues with it, but not as much as people are complaining about.

Have you even played any games that have introduced microtransactions in the middle of their lifespans? Sure, it doesn't kill the game if you introduce them as part of the game in the beginning. Let me give you one game that I used to play all the time: Ragnarok Online. Ragnarok Online introduced microtransactions in the middle of their game's lifespan - if you was to log in today, the economy is wrecked, everyone is a high level because its so easy to train, the people who have real life money are at the top of the pyramid, and when you're first start, its IMPOSSIBLE to catch up to them unless you pay money. MapleStory is also in the sh*tter, and its just conveniently owned by the same people invested in Jagex. Yes, MMO's have been doing this for a while now, but that doesn't make it right for RuneScape. RuneScape was that one game that was against microtransactions and that's why I have stuck with it since 2002. You also can't compare botting to microtransactions.. botting is actually against the game rules, microtrans - actions aren't, and you also can't just immediately get XP lamps with botting. You also can't compare COD to RuneScape… they are two entirely different types of games. Microtransactions don't effect COD's gameplay nearly as much as RuneScape's.. not even in the same ballpark.
I disagree on you saying it doesn't affect other players very much. I understand you bot and you probably don't give 2 sh*ts about RuneScape anyways, but to the legit people who worked for countless months/years working on that completionist's cape, or even to that guy that got 99 cooking, their effort and time is wasted and sh*t on by Jagex because other people can get those stats in a tiny fraction of the time if they have enough money in real life.
Your real-life financial status should NOT have anything to do with your game experience/financial status.
Just wait, Jagex is going to introduce other microtransactions, other HEAVIER ones. Insight Venture Partners is literally forcing Jagex to milk us for money so they can get some quick bucks, just like they did with MapleStory.
