Seems a bit ironic; those that would buy spins for rares are essentially gambling, which is what they've attempted to stop. And now they're doing it themselves.

Anyway, this is what it looks like for XP:

Background/assumptions
-To level a skill from 1 to 99 requires 13,034,431 XP
-The average amount of experience from each lamp to level a skill from 1 to 99 is the XP received from the lamp at level 91
-Spins are purchased at $20 per 75
-Random-assigned (forced skill) lamps are given out at a uniform rate

~Number of lamps to achieve 99
Small lamp: 13034431/6452 = ~2020
Medium lamp: 13034431/12903 = ~1010

According to one RS forum post, the player won 22 small XP lamps and 10 medium XP lamps over 80 spins. The chances of getting them are as follows:
Small lamp: 22/80 = .275 = 27.5%
Medium lamp: 10/80 = .125 = 12.5%

A better source with more spins, showing how many lamps received would make this a bit more accurate.

Lamps per 75 spins
Small lamp: 75*.275 = 20.625
Medium lamp: 75*.125 = 9.375

Also, even if you were to sell some of the rares you collect, it wouldn't help to repay much. You might get 20% back or so, but this is just a guess, and then you would have to sell it by RWT.

Their response to them real world trading by allowing members to purchase their features, was that without real world trading, Jagex would not exist. This decision was not a horrible one, as it allows ADULTS to gamble, as only ADULTS can pay for RuneScape.Actually I believe they still allow cash in envelopes. If that is the case then children will son be gambling their lives away.

This new 'Win to Spin' update should not get many players very much XP, or items, as the chance of receiving is so low already. They are effectively pulling in a new source of income, with little in game effect.

With the money this pulls in, I hope to see more added to the game, because Jagex was originally created as a small company, that enjoyed writing games, much like us, as we are small and write bots because we enjoy it. Not because it is a source of income.

Last word hasn't been said about this new update. Short excerpts from the rs-thread:

After a bit of digging around, it seems Andrew decided to finally cash in on RuneScape and he sold his stake to a Insight Ventures, the same company bought a 35% part Jagex before in 2005, for £75M. They got a controlling 52% now which means Jagex is now in hands of some financial guys, in there for the money.

Seems the gamers lost. Too bad, it was a nice game.

ahem… I just bought 150 spins. I got 19 small lamps, 12 mediums, and … A HECK TON OF COWHIDES AND 50GP. ARRG. but I did find out that you can influence it a bit. I got down to where I could be only a few ticks off from the huge lamp, but I couldn't quite get it right on.

That's wrong, it's a normal 10m. Also you can't buy charms so not sure what you're even on about there…

Sadly on top of them adding a new tab dedicated just for the SoF, the icon is still there.


Then theres also Double Spin Tickets which you gain from doing various activities including leveling professions. The tickets can't be banked meaning the scripts that need to access a bank are somewhat broken and you just end up clicking deposit items over and over. So a update on that would be welcome

Stoped caring about this game back in 2007. Who care really. If some poor sod want to spend 1$ per 150k and get ripped off, when they could get well over 1m per $ by buying anywhere else, then it's their fault for being so stupid.

Why is everyone so upset about this? I have yet to get a reward better than medium xp lamp from SoF since it came out. This is an alternative to buying gp and botting xp.

It honestly is a good idea on their part. They get more money from people that are dumb, and the rest of us with common sense will continue to do what we do. It doesn't actually do anything substantial to change the game really. Maybe if they offered double exp hours for cash would that be game changing.

I haven't seen the RS Forums this crazy since the removal of the Wilderness and free trade.

I don't really approve of this action… mainly because I don't like competition.

I certainly don't have any moral high ground thats for sure.

Besides the obvious self contradictions, I don't really see what the big deal is. There are always people willing to shell out to take the easy way to the top. Same thing with buying/selling gold, just provides an easier way to skill up (buying bones or chins or whatever).

I NEVER thought Jagex would implement anything like this into the game - when they put the SOF into RuneScape, I thought that was going too far, but now you can BUY spins! That just went over the top.

Only idiots will buy spins anyways, really. The chance of getting anything good other than lamps is slim. Although I dislike the update, you can see why they did this. To get the idiots that would normally try buying RSGP and get scammed.

There are some people that WANT to pay to get an advantage, as they feel they're entitled to it.

Now, if Jagex were to make loyalty points buyable/BXP buyable or even some sort of seperate store that had something actually useful, this game would be dead in mere months.
