[Script Idea] Chef's hat collector

I was cleaning out my bank today and sold a chef's hat. The current GE price is 339 and rising. I put it at mid and it sold instantly, and when I collected the money there was 750gp. I thought this was really weird so I went and bought 20 more from the shop in SE Varrock for 2gp each. They all sold instantly for 750gp each also. I paid 40gp and sold them for 15,000gp instantly. That's a pretty good profit if I do say so myself. Why so many people are buying chef's hats on the GE I have no idea.

This could be some serious profit if we can find a way to exploit it. The shop in Varrock only stocks ten so that wouldn't be a feasible way to collect them.

BUT… apparently teak shelves 2 provide an infinite supply of them according to this link:
http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/Chef%27s_hat

So theoretically we could have a script that collects a full inventory of hats from the teak shelf then walks/teleports to the bank and repeats.

I don't have the construction level to see how the teak shelf works though or how long it takes the hat to spawn back and whatnot. So if anybody wants to give that a go and let me know… the whole idea is teetering on that right now.

A chef's hat is a white hat that allows players to enter the Cooks' Guild if they have the required Cooking level of 32. Other than this they serve no purpose, except for the aesthetics.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. I don't know why they are so in demand. Anybody have the level to test out the teak shelf and tell me how that works?

Some items in RS are wanted but not needed. A chefs hat is purely for aesthetics, likewise is a discontinued item such as a mask. The reason chef's hats are going up is due to them being merchanted.

Merchant(s) buys huge amounts of wanted items for low price, only to sell it at a much higher price to the people who need them. An example of a similar item could be pink skirts/shirts - they sell for something like 500gp in Keldagrim, but if you want one instant on GE you have to pay 5k. The stock in Keldagrim has 10 of each, which restricts the supply.

If 50 people/bots suddently spawn chef's hats in a new way - teak shelves for example - I am sure the supply would quite quickly overwhelm the demand.
Great idea though, and definitely worth trying at least for the fun of controlling the chef hat market. :)

Yeah I thought about that today too. The demand would quickly go away if we all started selling them. It doesn't make sense that they are being bought out though. Whoever is buying them is buying at 750gp which is double the GE mid price.

I made one of these shelves and tested it. You can have as many chef hats from the shelf as you like - however, you have to skip through a lot of menus per hat:
5-5-1
(more… -> more… -> Chef's hat)

The amount of hats available on the shelf is however unlimited. :)

Can you leave with the hats? I know there is something in your house that once you get it you can't leave the house with it in your hands. I think it was tea.

That's not a problem since it'll be a bot and not my hand falling off from clicking lol. Well whoever was merching hats dumped their inventory and are selling for 5% under med now. But still at around 350-400gp per hat it could still be a fairly profitable script.

How many inventories an hour do you think you could get?

I'm not sure, but I'd say a fast script could fill your inventory in 140 seconds. That's assuming 5 seconds per hat, so 2,3 minute for an inventory. If banking then takes 0,7 minute, perhaps 500-600 hats per hour? Would be at least 220k/h if the hats dont crash.
