You could have also gotten them as a Jr Mem a while ago if you were a Simba beta tester.

As I can tell these are the requirements for an avatar:
You must meet one of these requirements:
~ SRL Member
~ Donation cup
You might be able to get one with these:
~ Have KBD sub rank (it's not lesser, I was lesser and didn't get my avatar until I donated)
~ Have at least one cup of any kind (this used to get you an avatar, not sure if it is now only the donation cup)
E: Sorry, my bad, for some reason was thinking of Junior members at the time. You do not need to be a junior member to get an avatar with the above methods.

There aren't many cups you can get as a jr. I think donator, competition and "maybe" old timer. There are prob more… idk, I don't count the banned cup (do we have this anymore?) >..>

The size of the avatar depends on the cups you own. No cups no avatar. IIRC there is no other way of getting a avatar. Also note that almost all cups are for junior members and registered users too.
