Going to buy my 13 year old sister an ebook reader soon.
Seems like Amazon Kindle Fire is the most popular and all of that, so I've got my eye on it.

BUT…..

What about tablets?
Like Andorid tablets, or whatever other kind of tablets are out there in the market??? Would it be same-ish price and have more features/power/capability than just an eBook reader?

I have heard good things about tablets as opposed to e-readers. There is more versatility with a good tablet, and for a younger girl I imagine she would like to do things besides read on it.

I believe that there are several Android tablets that are nice, such as the one Galaxy tab I keep hearing about :p

Tablets aren't my special area, I know more about android phones.

Get her a tablet!

As Pat said, she'd probably like to do more than read books all the time.

Personally, I have no experience with tablets besides the iPad, but I'm pretty sure theres some good ones out there.

Kindle Fire has PLENTY of add-ons. I think she will be more than happy with that, unless of course she is high maintenance and wants only an iPad.

Yeah guys, Kindle fire (I think) might even be considered a tablet now.
It has music, apps, web browser, etc so hmm maybe it's the sweet point between functionality and price $200 for it, but I have no idea the price of tablets or what extra functions they have or which are even good.

I have a playbook and I find it's fast although lacking in the app store it also has kobo e reader pre installed and I've used the reader and they have good selection and I enjoy it and they are pretty cheap now. Atleast in Canada

the tablet is basically the same thing only a wider screen. And if you get a tablet get a tablet with ice cream sandwich. and it depends on your price range, if you could post a price range it would help:)

Friend has kindle, it's quite useful and does a lot of stuff tablets can't and do!

Yeah I looked at just one popular tablet (Samsung Galaxy 10?) and it's about $400 (as is the iPad) while the Kindle Fire is only $200 and still does a TON of stuff that the tablets do! Totally not worth the extra $200 for most tablets when Kindle Fire itself seems pretty amazing!

You can get the samsung galaxy tab(the first one) for about 130-150? Which is cheaper than the kindle fire! I personally have this tablet and it is WAAAYYY better than my kindle fire. Just wish I could return it actually!

I would buy a tablet, it has more options and the price is more or less the same.

Something like kindlefire ;)

Tablet all the way. Dosent need to be an expensive one too, I bought an android one for like 180$ and it does what I need it to do which is: Browse the web, play some stupid game, and dl some apps.

Well to give my opinion, you know how old I am. I tried my friends Kindle Fire and disliked it much more from my IPad, it was much harder to use and the feeling was not that nice feeling when you know you've got an IPad, it's just so much better, easier to use, looks nice + more features. But that's my opinion ^^.

I know the Ipad is expensive.
Get the Kindle Fire, it's pretty much a tablet, for less money.

Yeah Kindle Fire is pretty much a tablet, and has a lot of features for the price. I'd say it's well worth it. I've owned both, and my general conclusion was that a tablet is a lot more versatile and user friendly.

If you have the dough, go for the tablet, if not Kindle Fire is a solid product.

If you're going to spend the 400+ then get an ipad for her. They are easy to use and stylish(which I'm sure she will appreciate). Otherwise the Kindle Fire is great. My sister has one and she loves it.
