Jagex could shut us down.

I see alot of things about the second bot nuke and how people around this forum seems to think that Simba and SRL are untouchable.

That is wrong. Jagex could end our botting very simply I believe, not through the changing of colors and such as we are now quite used to that concept but through the way the mouse is handled.

You see, in some games, the mouse is handled in an unusual way which prevents Simba / SCAR to "use" it.

What I've noticed is that Simba/SCAR cannot move the mouse in games which "lock in" the mouse, as in you cannot move the mouse out of the client.

Maybe I'm wrong, maybe I'm not but please stop with all the "If Jagex is gonna stop us, they're gonna have to make the game black and white"- type of stuff.

What games are you talking about? If you're talking about FPS and similar games, this is done so you don't go into a high acceleration and click outside of the game client. Also, you CAN move your mouse just fine using Simba in most games. I don't believe this would even be possible with Java. So until they remove browser support, it won't be done.

I agree that they can stop us.. and it doesn't take black and white to do it.. There's actually a ton of ways jagex can stop screen scrapers.. Why they haven't yet? Iunno.. but I also hate the "we are invincible" attitude. Yeah smart doesn't move the in-game mouse anyway.. if u actually enable the custom rs mouse, u will see that smart mouse move but the custom mouse will not move and click until u set it to the normal mouse.

If you can be arsed to do so, try out the game Soldat, its a free little shooting game with blood and explosions.

I tried to make an aimbot for the game seeing as the graphics are quite simple and Simba simply couldn't even use the client.

I know the main dev of soldat, I'm not sure he'd appreciate me hacking on it :p Do you know any other games that give the issue you're talking about? If not, I'll just try it out in a bit.

You try on Counter Strike Source or similar games on the source engine? I've made a CS:S aimbot using Simba in 5 minutes and it worked just fine once you set the crosshair.

Just try it on Soldat, just try to move the mouse.

Tried with SCAR before Simba was out and due to the handling of the mouse (I presume), SCAR couldn't get a hold of it.

But this is not the subject of discussion, the main idea to be retained is that Simba is not invisible nor invincible and Jagex can stop us.

@Harry : I don't know if you can do that in a Java Applet but if you can, there you got a solution, I can think of a few others which could prevent Simba from working aswell.

If we ever can no longer script runescape so what? This community isn't about runescape its about learning.

I'm a little tired of all this talk of the end of us and whatever. If you would leave because we couldn't bot runescape then leave now. Until that point, as a community were just going to keep solving or attempting to solve any problems thrown our way. It makes it more fun if "the end" isn't planned out, what's a achallenge that you can prepare for? How is that fun?

Pardon the brevity, on my phone as usual so I blame autocorrect if something odd sloped through.

I agree with you, but if there is no Runescape than what shall we get our hands on?
Also, I believe majority of the scripters have a army and benefit from scripts, if it wasn't for Runescape; Most of us wouldn't even be here.

What is SRL's use ? Botting RS, where are we ? SRL's site : villavu.com.

Correct, SRL is the include that we are known for, and it is used for RS.

What I am saying is that we wouldn't just "shut down" because we can't bot RS anymore. We would most likely begin work on a new include for something else, or continue to try new methods to get past whatever obstacle would put us out.

There is no end for us, our include is stoppable, our community is not.

I don't think the mouse "lock" you are talking about works with Java, as I have never heard of it until today >.<

I'm fairly sure this isn't possible. Tried to look at the source of simbas mouse function, but that will take some more time from me to get ;). Anyway, I believe simba just moves the real mouse, no way to lock that. And java can't lock the mouse unless you get such a pop up about their certificate and you click on ok.

I was assuming this was the problem. Simba just moves the mouse as if you were moving it, nothing that anybody could do to prevent that. Some applets just have to be focused on (ie click it) before it will recognize the mouse is moving over it

We could make irl robots use the mouse and read the screen with simba(Or a real camera) :o

There has to be better ways though.

They'd lose a lot more than just that. Anyway, let's just see how things turn out and let's stop speculating why don't we? It technically can be done, however I doubt they are really targeting us, in that sense anyway, maybe bot nuke 3?

In all honesty they will probably never target us (Knocks on wood), reason being; injection/reflection bots will always exist and those are far more deadly due to the ease of access and the spoon-fed scripts that don't really face the same situations color scripts face.

They can't stop hijacking of the mouse, unless they force everyone to use DirectX or (I think) OpenGL. Even then, it would be easy overcome.

Derv, look at it from this general perspective: Does Jagex wants to shut down RS-cheating sites? Yes they do, the sooner the better. Does Jagex wants to eliminate every bot in RS? Yes, more then ever.

So, why aren't we all banned and sued? Simple: Because they cannot find our bots and don't have legal grounds of shutting us down.

Could they stop us? Yes, of course…. but I think we are just not threatening enough. Besides, by ruling out money legal grounds do kinda fade away, as hosting villavu only costs me money. Lawyers don't like philantropists.

It is most likely that they know about Villavu, SRL, SCAR and Simba I believe so the only option left is that they do not have the legal grounds of shutting us down. So, how could they shut us down ? By killing activity and contribution to the SRL include. How ? By making this include useless.

AFAIK when you create your account on RuneScape you agree to your processes and programs being checked. If they see that you run a known bot program, you can be banned etc. Now there surely are ways you could prevent this from happening, renaming etc..

Also you stated that Jagex wants to eradicate all bots from RuneScape :

Does Jagex wants to eliminate every bot in RS? Yes, more then ever.

So the statement about us not being threatening enough is not really valid.

Please do not take this as an attempt to prove you wrong as I believe those threads and posts are futile and do not bring anything forward.

Thesis : Jagex can stop us.
Argument : They can prevent Simba / SCAR / SRL from working
Example : Mouse-lock (yes apparently it was wrong but the main idea still holds)

And I, myself, can think about multiple solutions to the "botting problem".

No matter how the 'mouse' is handled, We can control it with programs/software.

The only way they would do a reasonable amount of damage to SRL is if they allowed HD only.

Which wont happen anytime soon because so many players are playing off windows 95 boxes =D

I feel like that would raise some major privacy concerns. It's not like its a blizzard game that everyone has paid for to run a downloaded client. Some people just play straight out of browsers, and I personally would get pretty fed up if a java applet read into my running processes.

Even so, I guess they could do this with some changes to their privacy policy, but couldn't we just create a mask for the process?

you could easily just change the name of the process to something irrelevant. I remember it used to be common practice when writing scar scripts to change the title of scar to something random since it was often thought that jagex looked at what programs you where running

Kyle Undefined

2012-03-08 15:26:03

Changing the title isn't the same as changing the process name.
