SHOULD OR SHOULDN'T THERE BE ANTI LEECH???

WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU GUYS HERE ON VILLAVU?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Really??? Do you know why people bot rs? Because many of us dont have time to play it!
So you think they gonna have time to start learning scripting??? I barely have time to set up my bot sometimes. This division between members and "public" is total bullshit!

And if tht wasnt enough, now you put anti leeches in public scripts too?! I know this is probly basic stuff that i need to know to fix it, but cmon! these are the public scripts right??? Atleast let us use these witout anti - leeches. Ive played rs for 11 years, botted for 5 and i had never heard of Villavu before the bot nuke. you know why?? Because of the bullshit you guys have done… Public and member scripts… You want people to participate? well too fucking bad, cuz this site wont ever be able to grow, nnow that Rarebot and epicbt are back and Powerbot is almost back on. People will leech. they dont give a shit about making scripts. Its the way it is. So get over it. Its HUMAN NATURE. Everyones probly gonna rage at this post, but think about it yourself. Do you still wanna be under the shadows of better bots? just because u dont like the idea of leeching? Anti-leech…Pfft…

Probly gonna be my last post on this site, and sorry it was to rage.

Apologies to RyGuy, that i raged on the thread of his script. I respect you for all the scripts you have made, having used a lot of them, But this is total bullshit.

In a way he does hold a point Public scripts should not have anti-leech Becuase for the fact that its public?, Yes there are a few that dont really have time for Learning how to script and understand codeing , the general reason for botting was so we dont have to play the game, it was something that most of us just saw as a 5 minute tutorial page and install and play feature , But! the fact that some people do have a anti-leech coded into their scripts is to help us in the end? Its saving the Runescape comunity.. with saying this im refering to the crashing of Items that are made using various types of scripts, In the end thoes people who do complain about anti leach are going to complain about market crashing belive it or not , and who are they going to blame? yes the developers of thoes scripts.

So in conclusion It is quite hard to say weather there should be anti-leech in the public script coloum , then again it is the developers choise to have it in their in the first place , unless their was a new rule of no anti-leech addition to scripts in the public scripts section. I personaly like anti-leach features as it helps me understand how the script actually works in game.

I dont know what else to say  I want to know what you guys think about anti-leeching , I know most scripters here are going to say something along the lines of its to help you understand how it works , how to do it your self , its saving runescape and i dont blame you for that its your own personal opinion , But as for non scripters what do you think about it?

I like anti leech, we are a LEARNING community first, RS cheating follows right behind it. I know people don't have time to learn, but a little here and there helps you enough to get around the sort of features.

I disagree. Antileach shouldn't be done because it makes scripts look unprofessional. It makes villavu conform to the stereotype that no scripts work. I guess it does kill a few leechers, but some of those might turn into a scripter. Also, antileech doesn't make you learn anything; it just makes you use the search button for 5 seconds or see the simple error.

cuz this site wont ever be able to grow

If growing means gaining a ton of leeches to have a bigger user base… I think I'd be fine it SRL didn't grow that much.
Sure SRL is primarily geared to botting in rs, but that does not mean that is it's only purpose. As Kyle said, this is a community based on learning new things, not only to bot on some game.

I don't agree. Someone ,who can't afford to fix simple compiling error will never become a scripter.

If it was so simple ,it wouldn't generate such frustrated opinions ,like that one quoted in first posts. Real Leachers are greedy ,they want only to abuse scripter's work ,without any effort from their side. They won't use search button ,because 'they want to have an IRL life'. It's just way of thinking.

I personally love the idea that you have to earn and learn your way to the private scripts. So when the good scripts are being used the user will fully understand them in case of an error or bug and help each others scripts.

I think that's the reason we are "Registered User" And the higher ups are "members"

I'm not even very good at scripting yet and i love the idea of anti leeching. Sure its public, for you to learn. If you are complaining about scriptings anti leeching there scripts then gtfo. This is a learning community, not a leeching community. IMO that guys rage should be enough for a ban because he obviously only here for pure greed and doesn't appreciate what the scripter had to do in order to get that script to work, not to mention he works for FREE. These scripts are very time consuming…..

I think anti leeching methods as they are currently being used are a waste of time.
They make the forums seem unprofessional in inhospitable. I'm sure the majority of currently active scripters where "leechers" at some point very few people jump straight into runescape cheating with the mentality that they want to spend hours on end writing scripts or bots knowing that they are readily available elsewhere on the internet.
I think the best method is to have make it so that if you release your script to the public it is too everyone. The people who will turn out to become good script writers will do it from their own want to learn not from being forced into learning how to fix a simple error.

The last thing it does is make the forums look unprofessional and inhospitable.

For me, it shows that we value intellect more than anything, and we aren't gonna deal with anyone who doesn't have an ounce with it. Which makes perfect sense to me, as harsh as it is.

This is exactly what im thinking .. the word being force is just another word for anti-leech , meaning as in scripts that do have anti leach is pretty much just forceing people to learn something for hours and then come back to it and fix the error.. Quite frankly i think as a user said before there should be three levels of script grades ie scripts for public , these could be very basic scripts or somewhat in between basic and adnvanced , Scripts with anti-leech being advanced scripts with the ability to do awsome things! like things that could potentialy harm runescape marketwise and fianaly members script. then again this is my own opinion and other wise some intresting feed back from the rest of the people replying to this thread.

The OP needs to make this thread into a Poll.. Honestly speaking, I'll vote for NO anti-leech..

Many members already know what it feels like to write a script and place it in the members section and get little to no feedback. Then to go and do this in the public sections and force users to learn who have their mind set on NOT learning.. isn't going to change anything.. What this does is just get "leeches" to help each-other get around it.. that's all it does.. One leech fixes it and then posts how the fix is done or shares it through a PM.. If a script is public.. it's public.. there is no semi-public anti stuff..

I Guarantee for all the scripters who thinks it works.. it just doesn't..

Got a thumbs up for saying that on another thread today :S dunno from who but meh.. Not showing off but it just goes to show..

People aren't going to do the anti-leeches.. they aren't even going to bother with the script.. Instead they are going to request the script that has already been made (with anti-leech) but say "I want a working so-and-so script" because "this other one doesn't work".. And the request section will be filled with that stuff..

Just my opinion but some members take the members thing a little too far.. NOT every single script has to be members+ and not every single public has to have anti-leech.. it does nothing.

I know this because I used to leech scripts.. Not to run them because I can already make them but well.. to keep a copy of every single one in-case it ever got removed.. I still have a copy of the first version of every single script released when I was a guy with the green name.. EVEN though I do not use it and it's far outdated.. Iunno why but I just have it :S Mind you I got them all when I only had under 50 posts.. and that was probably the first week that I came here. Never ran narcle's fighter but I hoarded every version -_-

I couldn't agree more! It really doesn't change much… btw a junior members section would have been the perfect place for RyGuys recently released then removed astral crafter!

Fine.. then how about all members who can't script, who aren't learning, or don't have a basic knowledge (that can be gained from the tutorials here) of scripting can't view/download/use the scripts. The "Public" scripts section would turn into the beginner scripting section, or something like that…
No?.. fine…

Edit: Could still throw antileech methods in, but everybody at this level should be able to deal with it (on their own, easily enough)

2012-03-03 23:48:29

I don't see why we would need to add Anti-leach into Public script… The goal of this section is to show your script and lets everyone use it as much as they want. If it does happen than it would require a name change for this section since people would need some knowledge to get the Script working!

If some say Anti-leech aren't that hard to bypass. Yes, if someone just add a random thing into one line to make the script saying : Error at line 1059, you need to add …. I don't call this anti-leech. In my vision, Anti-leech is modifing the script for it to not work correctly and require the player downloading it to read threw the procedures and function to find what is miswritten to make it to work correctly.

But, if the goal is to eradicate all leecher and turn this community into a pure Scripting Community than doing this is the best way, since people will need a minimum of knowledge if they want to to use any kind of script.

some people just want to play the game and not script. i don't like the game and that's why i don't script but im still against anti leech.
and i have played rs and know its "unplayable" without botting.
afterall leeching means learning it all depends on the person whenever they want to learn or not but leechers also help by finding bugs.

2012-03-04 10:34:23

both points of view have their arguments, but i also believe that people are more likely to get interested in something if they arent forced to do it, im doing a script in my free hours which arent that much since im at college, i can handle with anti-leeches since im not one, good thing i got the astral from rrguy, its a very nice script and will learn some things from it (i knew it would be removed in no time), although i only used it like 40-45 mins

i believe some scripts should be members but not all good scripts have to be members, how am i supposed to learn some more advanced scirpting if i dont see a single advanced script? you cant learn everything from tutorials…

there are leeches, of course, any botting community has them, but like i said forcing someone to do something never works, i am not completely oposed to the anti-leech but i feel it does not help that much, and it is creating a bigger division between public and members, although some members are also oposed to the anti-leech

First of all, poll is terrible. The answer to, "Should or shouldn't there be anti-leeching?" is not, "Yes," or, "No." It doesn't make sense since the question is a tautology, something that is by its nature always true, but I digress.

I think the biggest problem is a sense of ego. Villavu doesn't have the ability to destroy RuneScape. No matter what happens, the people over at Jagex have supreme control and can probably handle a shifting economy - they are paid, successful professionals after all. Next, we have scripters who think that not just anyone is good enough to use their scripts. No, you must pass a test to use it! Why? SRL is an amazing collection of code and it has nothing between it and whoever wants to use it, the same for Simba and SMART. Scripts aren't valuable, aren't precious, aren't a resource that must be preserved at all costs. They don't lose value from their use or gain value from their disuse - if anything, the reverse is true.

Leecher is just a name to dehumanise a subgroup of users. It's said that they take from our community, but nothing is lost from their presence (beyond bandwidth that isn't a problem.) They are the internet pirates of the macroing world and that doesn't make them the bad guys. The difference is that you can use them to help. If they are not attacked, you can turn them into script testers, treating them like people that can help you in indirect ways. Not all of them will be, but even then you can slip in things like SRL stats to let you know that they are simply running your script.

The only thing standing between a scripter and the untapped resource that are leechers is his own ingenuity.

I truly believe it's up to the scripter what they want to put into their script. They are the creator and owner of the script if they wish it to be a puzzle then so be it. If users don't want to figure out the puzzle when a scripter post it, then don't use the script. IMO it's that easy you can't demand that a scripter change something that by all rights belongs to them.

E: Mind if I add a choice to the poll. "Up to the Scripter."

Definitely agree. First of all it's a free script. If the script-writer wastes hours and hours probably days into writing a script… You should atleast have to use 5-10 minutes of your time to be able to use the script. If not that atleast donate to the script-writer he gets nothing out of writing a free script for you besides practice. I really don't understand this.. Why are people complaining about wasting 5 minutes of there life when the script-writer wasted days of his life for nothing besides feedback…. this is so sad…

Answering the first post I would like to say that if he/she don't have time to play RuneScape why does he/she even have an account for that game?

Scripters sometimes add an anti-leacher to their scripts to stop people abuse their scripts and to make them learn how to code so we can have a bunch of people that knows to do something on this community, an not only ask for thy script or the other script that gives plenty money.

Leachers tend to take advance of the others in order to do RWT.
We (SRL) hate goldfarmers, so we avoid to create scripts that allow people to get some large quantity of money, on this game. Some of those scripts are kept to members, to avoid goldfarming and/or to avoid prices to crash ( grand exchange ).

What scripters do it's for your own good ( everyone who does not agree with adding anti-leaching to the scripts ).

It ain't hard to fix those small errors! Some of them can be found at forum. Or you can simply learn how to script, and make all the scripts that you would like to have.

If you don't have time for it , then get it!

This is a way to encourage new members!

Scripters in most cases have to put in many hours of work, atleast a simple anti leech will deter some users, the oens that can't be bothered to learn something usually easy. I guess it makes the scripter feel like they are getting more out of all their hard work.

So I support antiban :D

I work full time, but have still managed to become a decent scripter on SRL (villavu w/e)
I keep my scripts private only because I edit existing ones. Personally I disagree with Anti Leech, scripting is time consuming considering all the testing that needs to be done even if you know what your doing. Let people pwn RS by suicide botting, the game is shit anyways might as well give people a fighting chance to see the small area of fun that it has (when your character is maxed/pure w/e) even then it gets old lmao. I thought that as one of the things that goes without saying, but I'll say it so everyone is on the same page.

People can do whatever they like with their script, including making it abysmal to read with no regard to indentation and using useless variable names and using labels/goto and throwing in a dozen nested if..then..else's. However, as a community, there is a standard we like to push forward. My entire post was with the mentality that a scripter can do what they like, but that as a community we should encourage them not to put in anti-leech as part of our practising standards.

Adding Anti-Leech doesn't make anyone learn how to script, if anything, it makes them learn the very basics.

[XoL]

2012-03-04 23:39:26

I don't mind either way, I personally think the scripter should be allowed to do what ever they want to THEIR script.

Whether you want to go as far as a "assemble yourself" or just a simple error like converting a script half way to SRL 5 and making the user do the other half.

Coh3n

2012-03-04 23:47:00

Like others have said, it's up to the scripter.

SRL, the way I see it, has been more about learning than botting in RS. If a leecher can't get a script to work for whatever reason, don't use it, simple. If you don't like a division between registered users and members, leave, don't cry about it.

Personally, I'm perfectly happy living in the shadows of other bots. It (usually) gets rid of the people we don't welcome here anyway.

If one who does not know how to fix errors, he/she does not deserve to use a script at all. You can say that you're busy with real life or whatever you want, but it is very wrong as a script user to complain about anti-leech.

For a script writer however, I believe this is his/her decision. I would prefer either completely private vs releasing it to the public though, because a decent amount of leechers have no regards about what you have achieved - once they get it working and see their cash stack rising, they will start flooding the spots/ dumping the goods. Your script is just a means to an end.

If anything, I just prefer an all or nothing approach. Anti-leech had nice intentions at the beginning, but it always seems to end up with massive spam complaining it doesn't work, lots of PMs directed to members for fixing them, and even more requests in the requests section asking for a completely working version.

Still, I just want to say that whoever thinks they think is their rights to get a script without doing anything (be it fixing compilation errors, or updating colors, or other easy stuff etc), you don't deserve to be botting at all. We make scripts here at villavu for free. Take some time to understand this.

P1nky

2012-03-05 00:01:28

Personally, I do not like the idea of anti-leech, whoever doesn't want to learn … does not have to; I script for the public and will keep supporting both Members and Public.

I feel that it should be up to the scripter to chose if they want leech control enabled. I personal dont have a problem with a leach, as long as it is a silent leach. I grow tired of post after post from someone that just signed up saying "your script is broken" or "I downloaded your script and how do I run it?" I would say that one in 20 that download a script will have enough interest to create their own script. This leads to the idea floating around for a junior member class, and junior member script section. I think that a bunch of currently "Public" scripts would end up moving to a "Junior Scripts" section.

I guess the other thing that rubs me the wrong way, is 400+ people have downloaded my fire maker, and all I generally hear is that there is an issue, or complaining about what it is, and no posts about how they appreciate that I bothered putting it up for all to download, or that they dont have to manually play the game with the script.

Edit:

"Should or should their be anti-leech." Your poll doesn't provide many options lol. I believe there should. If everyone here was an intelligent gamer who simply had no interest in coding and person then I would say no, but that is definitely not the case.

We had something like 300-400 guests and 24 members online yesterday. I don't care if there's an anti-leech or not but at least there should be a rule where you MUST own an account before downloading.

I assure you that right now there will be more guests than members on by almost double, go have a look now.

A quote of yesterday's statistics:
Users active in the past 24 hours: 4762 (1740 members and 3022 guests)

Current statistics:
Currently Active Users: 148 (55 members and 93 guests)

It's appalling.

I really could not stop laughing about that after thought! :L!!, I like to look through script comments about stuff not working and i like to help them out on their error, but this one is a new one! //SMART lol :L! i would love to see someone complain about that one lol :D

LOL what? own a villavu account? , isnt that what is required to download the script in the first place?:confused::confused:

Edit- i mean like, you do need a villavu account to download scripts ;)

When I didn't own an account I had no trouble downloading whatever I wanted.

Anti-leech slows the learning process.. There didn't used to be such a thing! Asking for help may be necessary, but leaving someone to fix a script that they didn't code, doesn't make sense. If you want to share, then share.. If not, then that's good too.

Is there any way to just make these people have a minimum of 10 posts or so, in order to be able to download any attachments ??

That is bad, should be required to be a member to download at least, and I wouldn't mind seeing a post count requirement. I know I would fall well below it, but make the requirement as 100 posts or even 5o posts. Once they reach it have a special group of members that read through some or all of their posts to see if it was spam, or if they seem like they're willing to try to be a good part of the community. If they pass then allow them access to public scripts. Until they get access to public scripts though give them some simple scripts used for little useless tasks that they can open up and see how it's put together to get a feel for scripting. That would not only stop leeching, but make the community look more like what all the members are seeming to want this forums to be, a place to learn. Shows that new members are willing to put in effort and not just steal the work scripters put into the scripts. If this is a stupid idea don't flame too hard lol. Just trying to throw out some ideas. :spot:

Just pointing this out.

10 "Registered Users" Voted Yes to adding something

15 "Registered Users" Voted No to adding something.
(On a side note 9 of those members are well under 100 post and 4 of those under 3 posts one has never even posted after being here 3 months)

8 "Registered Users" Voted to leave it up to the scripter.

I found it ironic that the low guys on the totem pole are not wanting it added. They don't want their free ride to end. This should have been a members only voting in my opinion. If that were the case Not adding the Anti-Leaching would be in last. Leaches come out of the woodwork when they think they may have to put in effort to get free skills and RSGP. I am nothing on this site and this point, and I know that and am not saying I am any better then those other Users under 100 posts, but I am learning slowly but surely and trying to make an effort. But as Members have stated, this site should be used to learn, shouldn't need scripters holding your hand through everything forever.

People with access to higher scripts have the ablity to post their scripts in the members section, which kind of prevents leeching in the first place. They are (I would hope) aware that when they post a script in the public section, that leeching may occur. However, if all that anyone who first joins has access to are scripts that are outdated/dont work, they will just move on, and very few (if any) will see the full potential that simba offers for RS and other stuff.

Runescape botting. Back when RSBot worked, omg b4 bot ban. The game was infested with tons, and tons of bots. Draynor willows had like 20-30 bots there ALL THE TIME. I just don't want Simba to become a new RSBOT. That would be terrible. Then Runescape would target Simba, look at scripts more, and try to bring them down more maybe.

Its totally up to the script maker where the script goes. If the scripter doesn't want his script to be public because he feels it might be abused that's his choice. The scripter might also feel that since hes a scripter he doesn't want freebies to get the script, just people that script, help simba, and are on the forums. Its a preference thing. Anti-leeching, since its that persons script IT IS TOTALLY THEIR CHOICE PERIOD, you didn't make it you don't have a choice, if they feel they want to put this awesome script in public scripts section but throw in a wrench they can.

Possible Reasons:

If someone actually plays Runescape eventually gets bored, or wants to bot it. Its just a game. They don't have to play/bot it. Unless they really want to. If they do really want to, they can learn how. They have to learn how so, this forum stays a little active, scripters get support, and etc.

A true leecher is someone who just gets Simba working, then uses scripts. No forum input, etc. Since Simba has to be setup, scripts sometimes have problems, and nothing is totally straight forward ( ex: PowerBot download button ). This makes it so leeching is a bit harder. So a regular game player, can't just get on here hit download then immediately start botting. They have to learn HOW.

This makes it so the people who want to bot runescape stay here longer. Which is probably what scripters/programmers want since they put (x) amount of time into making stuff in order to do this.:spongebob: I typed too much owell. </rant>

EDIT: ALSO just looked at runescape script section says 80 viewing. Just goes to show why some put anti-leeching things in their scripts.

I'm new to the community and I think that people are milking out the people that are putting effort in something. People that want to learn should get permission and people that use the scripts and don't even leave a thanks should not even have permission to those scripts. But hey, that's just my opinion.

Underlined is what I was trying to point out. As for the second part of that, they don't need to be outdated just be very simple scripts to see the inner workings or something like what RiD has for free like a power miner that works so they can read the code and see how it all goes together.

That's the biggest problems, people won't even sign up now to use the bot since they don't have to. Putting a 50-100 post count in place to keep leechers out would make new members become active in the forum and see how things run, plus perhaps make some new friends. Could easily make them more likely to stick with Simba and stay active.

Me and him have the same join date month, if new members notice to have the potential to be abused and take advantage of the work the script makers do put into these scripts, why do the members see it as no big deal? These Guests do nothing to help out here and if they haven't by the time they have started using it, chances are they never will. Even with registration was required the SAME thing would happen except they have a username instead of a Guest title. Requiring a post count would be perfect. Plus this is just asking for goldfarming to begin to take hold again. I don't know about everyone else, but I wasn't a fan of having 40 bald level 3 people standing beside a tree or other training spots stealing the experience. I do bot, but only one account not 10+ at a time. A lot of unwanted things could come from the leechers.

I think that every bot MUST have a anti-leech ..
Simba is infested of leecher that don't care about the community and do nothing for us, i think that the scripter must put some anti-leech for the work they did.
Some people just take the script and don't thanks the scripter for his good work
BTW, I HATE LEECHER, DIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE =D
YOU JUST CRASH THE FUCKING PRICE :)
I think that just remove a word like ''function'' can stop so many leecher :)

A leecher will never do this, he just will think that the script is broken. A leecher don't care, he just don't know how to use the search button so ..

I got this

2012-03-18 21:16:11

I personally do not like anti-leeches,I think they are a waste of time, it usually takes me 10 minutes to an hour to solve them, and yet I still can't write a good script. Even though I feel that way i'm not the person who is writing the scripts and allowing everyone to use it so just leave it up to the script writer to do what he/she wants

oudshoorn

2012-03-19 11:15:48

I am not sure if anti-leech will do anything good. It makes simba community look a bit unfriendly. But i get the point and i agree totally with it. Many leechers only want to goldfarm or get the 99's and don't want to do anything to help the community. I want to learn how to script aswell(because it is awesome :P).
I'd say that scripts that can possibly be harmfull for runescape('s economy) should be moved to members+. Isn't that a solution?(Probably the most strangest thing you guys ever heard a leecher say xD)

pown otto

2012-03-19 12:56:56

I think it depends on the script, the scripter, and how much time the scripter put into it. if they spent a long time in the script and its a script that isnt out much (say a script that makes huge amount of money or huge amounts of xp) then i dont even think it should be released to us registered users, only the bots that are slow xp or money and are just basic autos should be released to us registered users, and if not then it should have big anti-leech's so that we cant use them, unless we look up tuts and start participating (and i am being a hypocrite because i cant script will probably try again though it would be a cool thing to do)

DuckHut

2012-07-03 12:36:06

I say no, but I would be considered a leecher as all I do is grab a public and run it. I don't post on the forums with any info on how it runs unless it's an issue I think can be simplified [(i.e one scripts has you go from X {start} to Y back to X and if you start at Y you run to X run to Y and back to X) my suggestion was just have Y as the start not X].

I don't have the time nor do I want to learn to script, it's like another language and I had hard enough time learning German (English speaker here) and I'm botting to save me time remaking an account I've already had just tweaking the quest or prayer level.

My biggest issue is I see more help for the simple fix shit than I do for the anti Leeches. You guys, as a community, are more willing to help some one who could fix their issues on their own with a google search and 30 seconds of time, than you are willing to help someone trying to get past the anti leaches.

I should note the simple things I'm talking about are covered in the "Setting up simba & SRL" or are in the "SRL frequently asked questions." I only know this because I've run into all the simple issues and fixed them instantly because I took the time to read the starting thread vs the kids who just download the program and expect it to be explained to them in the scripts thread.

I'd focus on making those kids learn the absolute basics, because they seem like a greater issue to "leaching" than I see myself.

[XoL]

2012-07-03 13:31:04

People should be taught the basics which is VERY VERY available, and that should be anti-leech other than that if they want to continue learning is up to them.

I have yet to see an anti-leech that isn't basic, besides for about 3 but they were for scripts that could possibly crash the economy so it is understandable.

demonwalker

2012-07-03 14:29:38

I think its mostly up to the scripter. I may be new but all of the anti-leach I've seen has been super easy. If possible, maybe just make the script section private so guests can't see that section, but they can see others. That way they have to register to use a script.

Recursive

2012-07-03 15:13:13

First question, can people still download scripts on the site even if they are not registered?

Anti-leeches should be left up to the scripter to decide if they want to add one to their script.

This is a pointless thread because as long as scripts are not being paid for, scripters will always want to have the satisfaction of knowing that people are paying somehow to use the script whether it be anti-leech or one of those build-it-yourselfs.
