Ridiculous infractrions from automaton mods

Swagger

Well let me begin to say that I know that I'm going to be flamed by the large majority of this site. Let me also include that I don't care, and that I'm impervious to mass pressure and am also totally flame-proof.
My complaint is this;

Mods on this site are either:
a. Prejudiced users who use their mod-ship privileges to exact revenge
b. Mindless automatons who automatically infract without due process
c. All of the above

I personally circled "c."

Let me start with Evidence (infraction) #1.

I agree totally agree that the majority of you probably evolved from apes. Me on the other hand, 100% human being (with no ape).

I was infracted for: "Insulted Other Member(s)" by BraK

Now let me explain the circumstances. We were arguing religion, and many of the victimized atheists were using the theory of evolution as proof against Biblical creationism. Of course, many of them brought up the theory that humans evolved from primates. I merely agreed with them.
Please explain IN DETAIL what was insulting about this message.
To me it seems as if you get infracted for being a Christian on this site, and promoted for being atheist (hint to all you achievers).

Evidence (infraction) #2
*Note, I am censoring this message so that delicate ears will not be offended.

Inappropriate Language BraK

Dear Swagger,

You have received an infraction at SRL-Forums.

Reason: Inappropriate Language

I can't begin to tell you all the things wrong with your post. First Do Not Cussing there are better alternatives. Second Don't insult other Members.

All the best,

Really. I got infracted for quoting someone else's infraction. This site borders on Communism. You know, everyone in their perfect little utopia sharing everything -, but when you go against authority you get lined up for the firing squad. And all the little Simba's jump in like a bunch of sharks on the blood scent, because if they agree with you, then they're automatically a public enemy.
Now for the infraction.
Apparently I got infracted because it was not clear that I was quoting someone. NOT CLEAR they said.
Please refer to the bolded parts in Evidence #2.
1. "Don't feel bad, I found this on pastebin."
E. Can this get much simpler?
2. Under the infraction I put "(Response)" in parenthesis. It's obviously not
my thoughts on the subject, after all, I don't even know the dude.
When I confronted (actually, he confronted me) Markus he said this:
After some research, yes we found that quote of you on Pastebin.

Now. I would appreciate if all would focus on the message BraK sent me with the infraction (below).
I can't begin to tell you all the things wrong with your post. First Do Not Cussing there are better alternatives. Second Don't insult other Members.

I just have to say, I can't begin to tell you all the things wrong with your post. Over 4 grammatical errors in 3 sentences! Dude, are you serious? It looks like you reeled this thing off in 5 seconds. I doubt you even read the quote.

I would also like to point something out about this "Inappropriate Language" or "Do Not Cussing" as you put it.
1. If this site has something about 'bad' language, then you should censor
it. It's the next step to your Communist dreamworld anyways.
2.
From: BraK

Personally I think people taking other peoples stuff that had enough trust to let them in are scum of the earth and lower than the shit of terrorists ;)

You really outdid yourself here BraK. I found this literally without searching, just saw it in the top results and quoted you. In this one sentence you both broke your "Do Not Cussing"/Inappropriate Language AS WELL as insulting the dude asking the question. Does your hypocrisy know no bounds?
3.
From: Markus
I read some other bullshit of you attacking me in this PM, which I'll ignore for now

and
From: Markus
No North-Korea here, we'd get shit all over.

Could have fooled me with the North-Korea stuff. I've been threatened with the ban-hammer for complaining about this

My third complaint also has to do with Evidence #2.
If you look at what the dude was infracted for, you will see he was given 2 points for saying
Have fun. :)
.
Is there something wrong here?

That is all I have time to write right now, but it should be significant enough evidence for a drastic overhaul of the legal procedures on this site.

*I must say that despite quoting Markus, he has been quite a bit more reasonable than BraK.

You got a infraction due to you breaking a rule… so why complaint?
Let the higher ranks take care of each other.

Rough Example:
  • You see cops beating our butts when we curse at them, but at the donut shop they'll curse like no other.
Also, your not banned… It's just a infraction Mate, I have gotten so many infractions/warnings; I raged, but than realized what I had done was wrong and I had deserved every warning/infraction that I was given.

It has been discussed and argued already in BBQ Pit, so no need of another useless thread like this.

Everyone gets something done not just lower ranked users. When I do something wrong 9/10 I'm told about it(normally by hobbit he loves me <3) The point is no rank is exempt from the rules they apply all the way up the chain. Not everyone can see what a user is getting which we get more complaints about than anything. stuff like why should I get an infraction when such and such didn't. How do they know that users didn't already get an infraction.

This is the umpteen thread I've seen on this issue. Just brush them chips off your shoulder and move on? It really shouldn't concern you too much, infractions mean nothing except if you get a shed load (and that'll only happen if your actually doing something genuinely wrong) or brake some other big rule (i.e. Leaking).

I would like to clear something up on this forum. I am not mad. These infractions were given a good bit of time ago, and getting a slap on the wrist from an internet forum bothers me very little. I didn't even ask for them to be repealed in this thread, even though I think that they really should.

The point of this thread is that I think mods are giving infractions for basically nothing. Posting "Have fun ;)" can give you an infraction. I'm surprised that I got pretty positive responses. That ape quote was a harmless joke - and it shouldn't be insulting for people who were just seconds ago arguing for evolution. The other infraction was for quoting someone else lol.
Mods are basically untouchable.

Infractions don't really mean anything(usually), except to watch yourself in the future.

This being the BBQ Pit and all….if you find a problem with authority being "corrupt" or whatever here, then you are not in reality. This community is one of the VERY FEW I have ever seen where the authority figures would do ANYTHING to benefit the community and have the best interests for EVERYONE in mind.

masterBB

2012-03-01 19:47:43

Stop quoting timer. That isn't relevant. He didn't get the infraction for posting "Have fun". He was childish and immature in a lot of his posts. He was scar orientated and always wanted everything different. That's fine till a certain degree. They got a long history with Timer, he was banned before.

The problem with moderaters and adminstrators in an online community is that they aren't just cops that are paid to keep an eye on us. They have goals no different than ours. Creating an awesome community around the SRL runescape library. And I think they are doing a great job an are acting mature and responsible. You have to remember they aren't payed for this nor do they get any benefit except for the respect of the SRL community.

Also Brak doesn't live in England but Germany. I don't say this is true in his case, but in mine it is. It costs more time to write something in English then in my mother language. Not much, as I've, or at least I believe, a decent knowledge about the English language. But when I make a lot of grammar errors, then I just tried to type something fast. At my normal type speed. Maybe this is also the case with Brak.

Another point where moderater/adminstrator may seem to have an unfair advantage on you is that they got more power than you. It's always difficult to work with a 'boss', just because the power levels aren't equal. You shouldn't be equal. And just think about it, the boss only requires you too behave. So yes, you can't harm them as they run the place, you are merely a guest to this community. Of course the whole community exist out of users, and SRL members aren't different. But they gave up the equal powers when they become moderator, this is a bigger sacrifice than you think it is. Everyone will always notice you have a higher rank in every thread.

They normally only pick out the bad posts, and give an infraction or two. I do not think that those examples you posted are that big of a deal. I can see what the thought where behind your "all atheist are apes" post, cause it's on the edge. They probably wouldn't except an "all Christians are pedophile" post either. Try not to forget about it but learn from it, and if you're uncertain where you crossed a line feel free to ask it. But these threads are annoying in the sense that you tell Brak he did his job wrong, cause you set your limits at other heights.

kingarabian

Yall have to understand that when we give out infractions here, it's for you're own good - and for the communities sake. You know when a cop gives you a ticket for speeding? Same thing, so you won't get into accidents and to protect the public. Some Admin's/Mod's give infractions based on their own opinions on what they see right or wrong. Some cops give you a ticket if you go 5 miles over the speed limit, and some are more lenient.

Whhhhaaat lol? I've had a lot of experience with cops and speeding tickets. I go to court on practically every ticket, and normally win about half of them. I know that cops are not the good guys they pretend to be, they regularly lie in court about the circumstances. They even give me tickets for going 3 miles over. That's abuse, not justice. Cops are needed for crimes like murder, not for things like inconsequential things like speeding tickets.

@BraK, you've answered NONE of my questions, just maneuvered around them.

About Timer, his infraction seems like a sore spot around here. I didn't know the dude, but every time I mention it to a mod they start raging about me not knowing the full story. I know what I see, and I see that he got an infraction for saying "Have fun :)". There's no explaining that.

Regarding the OP, I've never gotten an infraction, also I've posted on a lot of religious debate threads and have never gotten in trouble for it at all.

Going with the other infractions, you were caught breaking the rules, you got an infraction that you deserved for it. Why did you deserve it? Because you broke the rules.

BUT-BUT HE AND SHE BROKE THE RULES TOO AND NOTHING HAPPENED TO THEM

You don't know if something did or did not happen to them, but that doesn't mean it's okay for you to do it as well. "But officer, the person infront of me was going faster than I was, clearly that makes it okay for me to speed!" Nope.

Well, what do you expect? This is a private community, you really have no right to be here or a say in what exactly goes on around here. They have authority over you and can do whatever they want, deal with it. Unless they're using their powers in an unjustified way, then you should talk to the person who is in charge over them and inform them, but that's not happening in your case.

Whenever you feel an injustice has taken place (WITH THE EXCEPTION THAT YOU ARE UNABLE TO SEE INFRACTED POSTS), a nicely placed PM to a mod or SSRL or Admin or even an SRL member usually will do the trick. There is no need to create a thread to spew anger onto.

BraK claims you're allowed to cuss in the section where he posted, and mods will probably never infract each other. They're a brotherhood.

I didn't really expect people to read the whole thing, I just didn't want to be accused of half-a*sing it. It's also there for the rare few.

I just read the OP and skimmed through the other posts. The cop analogies aren't supposed to represent actual people, they're supposed to represent the thought of having an authority figure over you that you should listen to. (along with my cop analogy was more directed at the legal system and did not have any part in dealing with how the police officer felt, he was simply handing out a ticket because you were caught breaking the law) Also I'm just posting from my own logic/common sense, I do not wish to become a Mod. :p

But, regarding your first point, I did direct a part of my post at that "issue". Basically, it's not really an issue and if you have a problem, you can talk to someone in charge and tell them you don't think the infraction/warning you received was justified. But in the end, it's still a private community that you have no rights to be in, regardless of what you think is right and wrong, Admins can still ban you because they had a bad day at work.

To be honest, you need to rethink the reason you even posted this thread. If your mad about some online forum mod giving you an infraction, then you need to rethink your priorities as well. So what if it's injustice? It's their forum for a reason, they can infract whomever for whatever they want, be it wrong or not. They do kind of baby the users of the forum though, and infract for stupid reasons, I can agree with that. But it's really not a big deal, find something else to complain about.

Yall have to understand that when we give out infractions here, it's for you're own good

And I'm sure mods get special privileges.
1. Respect
2. HUGE power over people
a. Infractions, warnings, mutes (am I wrong), banning…

And stop the cop analogies. At least four people on the thread have used it.

Warnings serve as a reminder to you of the forum's rules, which you are expected to understand and follow.

All the best,

All i did was congratulate Brak in an enthusiastic fashion.
I do believe that you, Dgby and Kyle are the only chill mods (from what i've seen), that don't infract at the slightest word.

I'd have personally gone with a warning or something, after all the post was directed as a compliment. But 'tis BraK's thread, so it's his call.

You understand SRL is an escape from the dime-a-dozen common botting communities where cussing/flaming/spamming/trolling is practically a requirement. Isn't it nice to be among a more mature crowd would give you the benefit of the doubt and give respect to all? Obviously not everyone around here could be said as such, but if no one tries to maintain that atmosphere here then what sets us apart from the other communities?

Swagger

2012-03-01 21:21:49

I think I prefer the dime-a-dozen botting communities. They're better then this Communist site. And yes, it is Communist.

Some people just shouldn't be associated with power. It goes to their heads, they start to think they're God, and if you don't follow on their bandwagon, then they'll smite you lol.

@Dgby
Sucks I guess. But like I said, a temp ban would affect me very little as I don't bot anymore.

and BigShark isn't one person. It's synonymous with a group of people I despise.

Anyways, I can't hope for much until some intelligent people either become the majority or come into power.

YoHoJo

2012-03-01 21:28:17

Then leave and join them.

Staff does have checks and balances, each other.
Everyone and anyone who dserves an infraction or warning gets one.
Staff can see who gives who what and if they disagre they reverse it.
Staff is expected to follow rules just like everyone else.

Arguing and bashing in this thread won't change anything, nor is it getting you anywhere. And I doubt anyone feels like a god or the 'power' or enforcing rules on a forum for a video game gets to anyone's head.

Just follow the rules from now on, if you have a problem for a warning or infraction first like the person who gave it to you know via PM. If you're still unhappy PM a few others to see what they think about it. If you're still not happy then oh most likely deserved it. Like you said you dont care about them so then just leave it alone.

Let's just stop this thread, follow rules, and do above actions if you have a problem.
This thread is going nowhere.

And please don't make another one…..

You said
Anyways, I can't hope for much until some intelligent people either become the majority or come into power.
so whenever you think that is, feel free to come back.

YoHoJo

2012-03-01 21:52:49

Was hoping this wouldn't happen…
You have no right to close my thread. Do you think that every time someone complains about staff you can close it? The thread was in a designated section for staff, and I would like it to be reopened.
You're part of this conspiracy, shame.

Either that, or I would like everything that I have received from writing the thread to be reversed. I am willing to take the consequences from going against the flow, but I'm not willing to take negative rep and infractions for something that doesn't exist anymore.

I hope you reconsider and attempt to be fair. If you ask me, I was quite polite and fair during the writing of my thread.

Let me put things out simply from now on.

I believe that there is a lot of injustice going around. I believe that BraK wronged me with his infractions, as did Dyk1923 or whatever his name is.
Staff members give newer users infractions in the blink of an eye, while turning their face when another person does something wrong. I also think that many of these infractions are over exaggerated. I mean cussing? Comon, how many people here at -13?
Basically this seems like a pointless battle, even to me, but I'm not one to give up.

You on the other hand are a negative influence. You agree with everything the higher authorities do (without consideration), and even have the balls to tell newer inexperienced users to leave. Users that have great potential, and are just asking silly questions everyone asked at one point or another. And I see that to answer these questions, you could do it in 10 words or less with minimum effort, yet you choose to discourage and flame them. Get a reality check bro.

Meanwhile, you call people on this thread "idiots" repeatedly, and I bet you you haven't gotten a infraction. Hypocrisy at it's greatest.

How am I a negative influence? I don't agree with everything the higher ups say/do, I tend to disagree on a lot of stuff, however it's their forum so I don't cause a fuss over it. They do things for a reason.

The only people I tell to leave are the ones who scam, steal, say how horrible color is (I mean face it, why be here if you don't like it), or who generally have a horrible attitude. Everyone else, I welcome and help. I'd never tell anyone who is asking for help, learning, or a good person to leave here, please site your sources.

Most of the threads that are created and ask for help have been answered 100000x's before. Telling someone to search the forums is not wrong, it's the correct thing to do. Is telling them to stop wanting to be spoon fed flaming and discouraging? I don't think so. Minimum effort? You obviously read what you want to.

Funny thing is, I could of infracted you way earlier for your posts, yet, I let them go. If I'm such a horrible person that you say that I am, why didn't I infract you every chance I got? I honestly don't infract people that often, and 98% of the time it's with a warning and a well thought out and explanatory message.

Meh, there are Devs with close to the same amount as you. What you do now is more important than what you've done in the past.

Most of the threads t.hat are created and ask for help have been answered 100000x's before Telling someone to search the forums is not wrong, it's the correct thing to do.

You consider me a checks and balance? I'm not sure whether to be pleased or outraged. As you can see, this checks and balance is getting stomped all over, continuously.

Of course they do it for a reason, but ask yourself, is the reason fully justified? There's lots of people on this thread who are complaining about unfair infractions they got. And look at it this way, the likelihood of one mod infracting another mod is substantially lower then a mod infracting a regular player.
My stance on color is that I'm very impressed. It was undeniably the only client up after the bot nuke, and is much more advanced then people stated (I never believed them anyways).

Let me give you one circumstance. I remember a thread recently where some poor dude asked if the Dungeoneering bot on RareBot worked. He claimed he was too scared of getting keylogged or whatever by the site.
And instead of you helping him out, with even one word "No", you and about 10 other members joined the witchhunt.
Do these type of threads about RareBot show up too often? Absolutely, but it's a harmless question especially since there's no Dungeoneering script on here. Meanwhile, the dude was getting flamed for what? Two straight pages?

As for the infractions. It seems like WAY to many people have the power to infract. I've already been infracted on this thread for calling you a rooster - lol? For quoting someone else? Tell me these infractions were not wrong. Meanwhile, I'm sure you've already contributed your angry sentiments in giving me negative reputation.
Just let me take a guess - you were the one who said "Grow up"?

So what I offer, as a solution, is a tribunal. People have the opportunity to
a. Talk to mods to repeal infraction (which all the mods claim work)
and if the mod(s) refuse(s), and the person thinks he's still being mistreated, then I suggest a type of e-court.
You put your evidence and your side of the story before some kind of group/individual to rule upon. I would prefer SRL members (really undetermined atm) for this, any higher and I think your in the brotherhood (watch out for your own).
This adds a judicial branch to your extremely powerful and influential executive branch.

Thoughts?

un-lucky, i got a warning when my sig was too big…

EDIT:

holy jesus mods are editing my posts… :p

that one was probably me. I give out warnings on sig not really into infractions for those as it's pretty minor. Unless of course the user refuses to change said sig.

First off negative rep and infractions are vastly different. You have received no infraction from this thread, only a warning.

Second, that is already in place. When you get an infraction, its not really hard to hit the reply button and send a message back to the issuer. If you disagree with the response, forward the message to an admin. It is really not that hard.

Infractions arrant a big deal, we really don't need some ecourt system to vote on weather or not an infraction is justified or not… A bit overkill.

And I already stated in this thread long ago, if you have a problem with an infraction then PM the mod who gave you it. If you still have a problem then PM a few more mods for more opinions about it. Easy. Problem solved.

About the dung script thread, I doubt any of the flaming posts were made by staff.

Byam. Looks like hobbit and I posted at the same time with the same basic content.
I think your questions and requests are all answered. Along with anyone else with problems with infractions. PM the mod/admin (or reply to the infraction) and if you still believe you're right then PM an admin.

Be polite and don't attack the person giving the infraction because they are more likely to hear your case if they aren't being mocked or threatened. All replies I receive for infractions I report higher so that other staff are aware of the situation. That is why more than one staff will address the situation when it escalates. The moment I received your Reply the other staff were made aware of it. If you had approached that reply better your one single infraction would have been reversed. Markus told you the only reason it wasn't going to be was because of the way you decided to handle that situation.

Looking at your reaction here, I find that infraction quite appropriate, S1n; If you had just PMed BraK about it or reported the PM, then I would have been against the infraction..

All this childish posts complaining about your infractions only makes it worse. Man up and act like an adult, and you'll see your "problems" vanish..

This. I can't believe this thread is even 5 pages long now.

I honestly don't see why you'd be outraged, it's an online community, not something that affects you personally.

There are many people who want certain things to happen, yet, they don't so we respect their decisions. That's the thing, they own these forums, they were chosen for a reason to control these boards.

Wait, because other decided to flame on a thread that I posted on means what exactly? I honestly don't understand. Please cite your sources, like I asked you in my last post. If you're truly this "outraged", then you wouldn't have a problem linking to all the "horrible flaming" posts. Also, that post could of been avoided if the person just would of searched first, as that's been asked many times.

Only SSRL+ can infract, and to be honest, that's not a lot of people. Angry sentiments? Sorry, I don't get angry on the internet, since I can just walk away or work and totally forget about what's going on. Oh yes, I did say that, and I still think you should. You handled this thing entirely wrong.

The e-court idea is not needed, since YoHoJo and Hobbit both have explained why not.

Ok, I don't think you will give a single inch, but to be honest I don't do that either. I understand that is very annoying if you get an infraction which you believe is undeserved. This will always happen in a society where there is such a big grey undefined area in the rules. This grey area can be filled with the personal opinion of the members with powers to give infractions. When multiple people are posting on the edge it can happen that you will be the only one that gets an infraction. This may seem unfair, but you could prevent that by staying away from the edge and behave as mature as possible.

As for the negative reputation you have received, that isn't the moderators fault. Probably there are one or multiple users that decided that these posts were not wanted. The amount of reputation you currently have is a representation of the amount of respect you have earned in this community. When you create a thread like this, you will not earn a lot reputation, most users will think in the lines of why would you discuss this in the open, others might find it offensive as you seem to have a problem with most if not all SSRL+ members. It isn't really the moderators their problem. Release a few script or help some people out to gain some reputation if your think it's that important.

The idea of a system where members+ are voting for the correctness of a moderators behavior and decision to give an infraction horrifies me. I don't visit this forum to be a part of some sort of judge. I'm not here to make sure the moderators behave, that is the administrators "job". I also think that is going to create tension between certain members and moderators we do need in this community. I don't want to judge a moderator who is also a user from the society. With them giving you a infraction they will briefly show the inequality between the user and the moderator. This is not state that should exist between members and moderators. And I will never vote for that reason.

Also note we are a little color bot, why would we need an huge system to regulate infractions. You are a user right? We do offer scripts and tons of learning resources. We offer help if the question isn't asked a million times before. I will not visit this forum to be a judge. Just behave mature and you will never/rarely get an infraction.

@Kyle - not sure why you're mad, I wasn't insulting you. I also don't have time to search, but when I tried I got this anyways "Searching has been disabled."
Probably some technical issue.

I agree that I handled it wrong. But when I get an infraction for what I considered a BS reason, I'm really not the kind of person who just takes things.

I still advocate some other kind of tribunal. I know that mods don't like me.

You summed my opinion up pretty well. We have a set of rules, rules that enforced by the SRL Staff, they all interpret the rules a little differently but we generally share the same opinions. If you're upset because you didn't abide by the rules or feel that you've received an infraction in error, then please just respond to the Infraction warning in private.

There's nothing ``wrong'' with the staff on this forum and we're not a ``communist'' forum, although I probably shouldn't take that seriously considering that you used the word to describe a public and open forum. We don't ``censor'' you, we just don't wish you to act in certain ways around our place. I'm sure you'll find that is the case in the real world and other (proper) online communities as well.

@Thread starter: If this doesn't appeal to you, feel free to leave.
