SAN MARCOS —- A handicapped man bit a sheriff's deputy Wednesday morning after climbing out of his wheelchair and dragging himself around a supermarket floor, a lieutenant said.
The man, whose name was not released, was arrested on suspicion of battery on a peace officer, said Lt. Jeff Maxin of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.
About 8:40 a.m., someone in the Albertson's supermarket at the corner of San Marcos Boulevard and Rancho Santa Fe called to report that the man was causing a scene. Deputies arrived about 9:10 a.m. to find the man crawling around on the ground, Maxin said.
They spent several minutes trying to help him. But at 9:35 a.m., the man bit one of the deputies on the leg, Maxin said.
The man was taken to Tri-City Medical Center for examination. The deputy was treated for his injuries, Maxin said.
