TakeIPScreenshots

Harry

Edit: made and pulled requested. https://github.com/SRL/SRL-5/pull/21

Will take a screenshot when logging into Lobby once the "last logged in" pops up. Should be just a few lines to take the screenshot and to add as a global. It could use gettextat or similar, but a screenshot should be more safe (and more incriminating proof!)

It should make and save to a directory in Simba folder called "IPLogs" or similar, and save them all there.

Would be a useful feature, especially for people complaining they got hacked and didn't see IP because they were running a script when it happened. This should be added ASAP, as it would very much discourage hackings and such.

Oooo I like it. I'm surprised nobody thought of this before.

I suggested this weeks ago on IRC…

I like it.
I say SS and Text, along with date, time, etc sounds good!
Where would we/how would we use this?
E:
Or is this just a suggestion right now, no code made yet?

Check the post above you, already coded it all. Just so when someone's bank gets wiped, they can check that folder and pick out what different IP there was to look at.

That could add up to a lot of screenshots. =\ Maybe have the option to disable?

E: I would rather have it just get the IP text and save to a .txt file. That could prove to be inaccurate, though, and I guess people could lie.

Harry

It does have that option.
And yea, a screenshot is much more incriminating. You could have it screenshot just the IP area using something like http://pastebin.com/ckMqbaN1 (from Dbgy), but I prefer a full screenshot which is also more detailed about your other account statuses.

What about only taking a screenshot when the IP changes?

Harry

2012-02-20 23:38:28

How do you propose we know when the IP changes? ;) The client doesn't tell us this.

Read it, If it doesn't match IPLogs/lastip.txt then save.

I like the IPLogs/lastip.txt matching idea. Also, perhaps you can keep a record of the last ten IP snapshots?

Save a file with the last IP read and read it when it gets the text and if it matches don't do anything (but still log it) and if it is different, save a screenshot.

Edit: Dgby answered already. :ninja:

What else do we need here? Membership expires until?

By the way, instead of marking the datetime on the filename, would it be better to mark it on the bitmap similar to a watermark? I know an experienced user can still get around it but it requires significantly more work to falsify a screenshot as such.

tbh I don't think this is really needed lol :p
If you get hacked it's almost always your own fault, have a pin and you're safe.
Never include your acc details in script…
If you still get hacked it's someone you know or the previous acc owner (just don't buy accounts).
I don't really see the point of filling my hard disk with these screenies :p

Set DisableIPScreenshots to false and you're good to go.

How about save only the last 5 ip's taken?? If someone logs more than 5 times after being hacked without realising there's not much else they can say.

Yago

Maybe have a choice to save it in — txt files vs a pic…

This, you'll notice within 3 logins or so that youve been hacked

OCR inaccuracies will make txt logs virtually useless.

OCR, check if it changes, bitmaps same thing. If bitmap taken or text taken has changed, save screenshot? Then make that screenshot the new bitmap until next time. Maybe if OCR is that inaccurate just do the bitmap thing. Maybe true to always take screenshot, false to take one when bitmap changes?

This makes Simba get stuck on lobby with login limit exceed error, and it takes screenshots but I can't find them anywhere on my computer

I've noticed this as well, the stuck in lobby part.

Nope, it's just a takeScreen. Something else is the culprit if you get that error. They are saved in your Includes/SRL/logs folder

Why do we need .bmp? These images are 1MB each. With .jpg they would be around 80-100kb.

Can Simba save to .jpg?

If it can, send in a pull request

And is the image saving fine? Whats the quality like? size difference?

I have been using this for months. I have hundreds of jpg screenshots. Size is around 80-100kb, quality is a little worse.
But for this IP logging its a waste to have that size/quality.

Simba can do several formats now. When this function was added, it could only do .bmp. Using .png would be the best option, no?

I'm even surprised it takes a whole screenshot, surely the area around the ip is only needed :p

It's probably because the function in Simba, SaveScreenshot, takes a screenshot of the client, not of a specific area.

I think .png would be a good option.

I'll do some testing when I get home and if its good (and no other pull requests), I will send one in.

Jpg still has lower size. :)
