new CTS: Delta X

I was just reading a bit around about color models and the methods to compare colors. And I was thinking why we only got one way to compare colors with the CIE lab color model and while there are so many others around. I know the speed issues that comes with this, but it would be interesting, at least for me. I was thinking about creating a new CTS. But I'm not sure which one would be most useful. I am aware that delta C and delta H are not useful as they add nothing that CTS 3 doesn't offer. But I was looking into delta e and maybe that's the way I should go.

In my research I found: (took +/- an hour, so I'm not an expert ;) )

  • CIE lab delta e 1994
  • CIE lab delta e 2000
  • CIE lab delta CMC

I was thinking about delta e 1994 and base my formulas on the ones given by this website: http://www.easyrgb.com/index.php?X=DELT&H=04#text4. Improving the efficiency can always be done later on when it's already working.

So, what do you guys think? Useful or not?

I'm aware that I lack knowledge about this subject. But that's something I can improve.

CIE L*a*b resembles the human eye, so that's why we went with it. Feel free to add/suggest other algorithms though.
