SRL Membership

Hi, just wondering should I attempt to apply for SRL membership in a month or so? I really want to be a full member, and have access to the cool scripts of course :p. I know I'd be a contributing, great member, my only thing is I don't have the time to learn a scripting language, as I work a lot and I do graveyards so it's really hard. Asking opinions, don't feel like getting blasted just curious are there other members who don't have a lot of scripting experience who have become members?

Thanks.

Wellllll on very very rare occasions people get in on attitude alone…but those people have proven themselves over a long period of time. These days, you do need to show an in-depth understanding of scripting to get in, along with being a helpful person in the community. There is no time limit to get in, we'll be ready to review your application when you feel you are ready.

As for the scripts we have, we actually don't have anything grand as people seem to think. We have like, 3 completely working scripts :p

Shh! they must not know of the mystical wonders of the SRL scripts :P haha just kidding, Patduffy is right.

You said you work the graveyard shift, got a computer? It is simple reading, I learned to script in a day of attempting then from there I just improved on things here and there.

Yeah I was thinking of just making my own script for private use by messing with others scripts. But I'd love to be able to make my own but I see these scripts with like 500 lines. :/

Only 500? Easy :p

My last one was 1.5k lines

On Topic: Just start small and work your way up. What looks intimidating today might seem doable in a week or two. Rome wasn't built in a day ;)

Haha I really want to make my own monkfisher. Any ideas where to start for a fishing script? I get the whole idea for picking colours to tell the program what to do pretty much just everything else like anti ban etc not sure where to even begin.

Yeah ~500 line scripts are fine and easy :P , my current one I'm refining is ~1800 at the moment.

In terms of where to start, the best advice I can give is to plan it out first. Break down what you want the script to do into the individual actions necessary.
E.g. Fishing, walking to bank, banking, walking back, etc
Write empty procedures for all these things. It gives you a shell to work with and around.

From there start at the beginning and test and refine each action until it works fine by itself, then move onto the next one. Once they're all fine, get them all working together and refine from there.

The scripting tutorials section is an amazing resource and it helped me out many a time, and still does sometimes :)

Have you looked at YoHoJo's begining video tutorials? They are awesome. Check the beginners and intermediate sections of tutorial island. Lots of good stuff there.

Bro amount of lines in your script = how big your e-penis is.

Yeah basically I just add {raaaaaaaaaawwwwwrrrrrrr} A billion times to create more lines in my scripts; makes me feel special :)

Don't worry you can do it! I started scripting in a day, and within that night created my first script you can do it! Start small; power chopers/miners are easy and great first projects.

Well just my two cents, I think unless you're making something special, 80% of the time your script should be within 500-800 lines.

All hail the 80-20 rule :) I have never worked something more than 1k lines so far. Most of the scripts I make are just for simple things like getting quick levels. Oh and some of them even can last 6hours :)

Number of lines sometimes matters, but I like the simplicity and elegance of being concise.

I read your first post and made a note to myself: Vote instant no as soon as I see your SRL membership.

Take your time learning. There's a lot of gratification in watching the character move the way "you" want by the rules "you" set.

My scripts have all been really short so far qq. Because they're relatively low caliber, they've reached only 100's of lines. Each serves its own purpose decently well though. My personal flash powder factory one was an exceptional one in terms of lessons learned. Know your limits :crying:.

@cycrosism:
The way his post reads does have a feel of emphasis on the script access (like many others), but dang that's blunt.

He is not willing to learn and only wants to become an SRL member to leach scripts from the community.

I wasn't asking to become a member to leech, I obviously would like to be able to use the members scripts. But I'm pretty sure I said I was starting my own script? I was just asking a question, chill bro.

To be a SRL Member just to have access to the others scripts…That's not being a truly member, if you want to know.
A true member knows to do any script, trespass their mistakes, learn with them.
If you just want to be member to get amazing scripts ( but I highly doubt there are that many scripts because members do some of them and make them private ) and just make a script, I really don't know :/

From your post, I only see 2 things:

- Become a member with a script; if goal achieved, leech and get all good scripts;
- Use member scripts and that's it.

If you want to be a member, you have to know the language of scripts. Not just say: I want to be a fully member, and not fight for it.

Learn the language. When you fully understand it, you won't ask to be a member because you'll have all the knowledge to make any script you want.
Think about it.

If you can produce a script that's Member worthy, you can write any script you want.

This. You'll be surprised by what you are able to achieve by the time you get there, and you'll realize you can probably make most of them yourself.

That said, it's a right you've earned to use them. It's nice to have a yellow name :)

Mate take your time…slowly get into the scripting world. Develop a script, doesn't have to be a masterpiece and from there keep updating it and advance it. That is when you apply for SRL Membership :).

Good Luck!

We all like masterpieces though :) I think making the change from just being a botter to a developer (somehow) is the most intriguing part.

"I know I'd be a contributing, great member". All aside I've started developing my own fishing script, and I'm actually making some good progress. I was just saying it'd be cool to have access to the scripts, thanks for the opinion though! I actually want to be apart of this community.

Hehe, You have a Dream like me, but Don't try to force thing like me. I should have know, but That's how I am. :-P I can give you some of the FeedBacks I have received.

1. Using Easy function like FindObj is Nice, but it is Disliked from member since TPA and ATPA is better in many situations, but if You use it not so often, than it is okay.

2. You need to be a Active Person in the community and participate.

3. Show that You know how to Script(Don't try with a messy Script like I did)

4. Have Fun and Share with People Your scripts.

Works on these 4 points like me, but it also forced me to learned How to Really use TPA and ATPA.

Perhaps, I have read Almost Every Advance Tutorial on How to use TPA and That's definitely the best Guide:

Yeah, I didn't mean to come off as being a leach, just an honest question. Thanks for the constructive criticism though everybody. I plan on getting better and better until I can just make my own scripts. :)
