Other bot discussions

Why are they allowed here? It's annoying to see, and we're giving pagerank to clients that will most likely steal people's usernames/passwords. They should be disallowed in the new rules. Discuss why you think disallowing talking about them would be a bad idea.

I just find it annoying…we have enough people asking "haow du i make the bot wurk" let alone people asking "haow du i make dis uther bot wurk".

I mean, I don't think there should be a ban on mentioning them…that seems a little too arrogant. I don't really think cracking down on it will be beneficial to our image since we are the "Friendly Older Cousin" of all of these other bots.

If people want to use some new injection bot the day it comes out, let them, and then we can laugh when they start crying they got hacked.

Then they go cry and say they only used Simba, when they obviously used the other keylogging shit. Gives Simba a bad image.

Why would we filter discussion of other bots? Maybe if we had like one hundred threads about it then some action would need to be taken, otherwise I see no reason.

The only people who would be scared away by that would be the type of people we don't want anyway. We're completely open-source and have nothing to hide, anyone with half a brain will figure that out.

Simba already has the image of a "client that can't run over 1 hour" as I've noticed on multiple threads at other sites. If people want to think that, they can go right ahead. I have no idea why we even that image and I don't see it changing anytime soon. The masses are ignorant to the utmost degree, but I know that there will always be the few that come here and become an active part of the community.

Because people constantly make stupid threads like http://villavu.com/forum/showthread.php?t=75531

Villavu isn't a pass stealing support forum, why would talking about them be allowed?

I personally think that these forums should not filter discussions like that, but instead funnel them to one section. I could care less about people saying they got their account stolen. If they did, then it's their fault. They can cry all they want, but the account is still stolen…and it doesn't matter who they blame it on.

I'm not sure… If you've noticed most of the threads made about other bots are people asking if it's safe/worth it, more or less asking about them rather than advertising and such. If they're asking for info about them we can honestly let them know the danger involved with any Java bot, and hopefully they'll take that into consideration. Should something happen to their account then yeah, that is too bad for them, but we did warn them in the beginning.

Yeah that is what I was about to say, they are looking to see if it is safe more than advertising its "amazingness"

I agree with mormonman's statement - I don't see anything wrong about talking about other bots, as long as it's in the "Other Bots" section.

To be honest, I think of it as advertising/promoting the other Bot, why should we hype up Bots?

Rough Example:
  • It's like MSN talking about Yahoo… Sounds berserk ay?

I also agree with what mormonman is saying, I mean, what's wrong with talking about another bot, I'm sure mos people would partake in discussions about other bots, seeing what they're up to and such…etc.

Forums are a place where discussions take place, if you guys want to take that away from the users then I believe only more spam and complains on our own forums are going to come our way…

Coming back to this after what I saw today…
I think an announcement should be made.

Other bot discussion is allowed but limited to 2 topics, more will result in infraction to the user who posted it. Also distribution of scripts/snippets etc. is strictly forbidden; use their forums not ours.

This is for the SRL library for Simba, not other bots.

We have always been a community about accepting other methods of cheating at RuneScape, we have never really shunned the discussion of it before, have we? I don't think we should start now out of all times.

With a new client right in front of us, we need to keep people here in order to keep their attention. Instead of rejecting the discussion of the client, we should embrace it and maybe have it put in to its very own forum section.

The second we 'Ban' other client conversation on the forums is the second we look like other communities. We have nothing to hide or be ashamed of, right? So why attempt to mask our users from other communities when we are proud of what we do?

Because, yes, SRL is for Simba and this is a website geared towards mostly Simba and with SRL as a bonus feature, it does get annoying to see people talking about the new client on our website. Why not talk about it on the client's website or IRC?

But despite that, we should let it keep going. We shouldn't change one of the most beautiful qualities we have. Acceptance.
