Is it possible to make a function that check what other people are saying ingame and then respond with ex cleaverbot without using a lot of cpu? Any idea's?

This could actually be possible. The only difficult part would be knowing if people talk you or not…

This is possible, I believe it to be in the srl include. It can check the chat box for text, but seeing if that "whats up" is aimed at you is hard to do. I know there is one script that logs you out when ever someone says your name.

There have been auto talkers/responders, but they make you seem like a bot. Not responding is not as bad as responding like a bot.

Why are you both ignoring the part where he mention cleverbot?

I didn't, I said auto talker/responder. Responder being the cleverbot, however, it's not a good idea since it's really random. It will make you seem more bot like.

*****This is an important thread*****

An auto-responder would only work if someone wrote a script that would briefly respond while conveying a dismissive tone. There are websites slightly better than cleverbot (such as jabberwacky) where you can actually tell the program to have a "rude" or "dismissive" tone when responding. The code would be something like this…
1.) It would monitor the chat box until someone spoke
2.) Record both the name and message of each person that spoke.
***This is how you could answer without looking like a bot***
3.) When someone spoke for the first time, the code would scan the text looking for the word 'bot', a variation of the player's username, and/or a question regarding the player's level. If the word 'bot' was found it would respond with a pre-configured answer that was vague enough for any situation, such as "Im not". If one of the other things were found it would run the appropriate respond procedure (i.e. use the selected chatbot to respond or answer the skill level question). If none of these things were found, it would wait until the play spoke again and respond with a "dismissive" answer no more than two times.

If someone had the skills to create auto-responder of this magnitude i guarantee it would snowball into being a big part of the villavu community. Bottom line is that report-trolls are dumb… By only using the Chat bot once or twice, you would aviod being banned from not answering easy questions and also not drag on a conversation to the point where you look like a bot.

PM me or reply with your thoughts… ( I Hope to hear especially from shadowmarkus because of his work on his scar auto responder)

Turns out it's illegal or something similar.

As in using a chat bot is illegal in the eyes of jagex? or is there some kind of federal law? Because jagex has said time and time again that bottling in general is illegal, which it isn't. Do you have a link where this was discussed so I can gain a better perspective. I really hope there is no legal issues surrounding this idea.

Also anyone who has a general interest in this project needs to check the program KARL Chatbot 2.2 (feel free to google this program and find your own download mirror for safety, however i promise this download is not a virus).
When you install, it will ask if you would like to use default configuration or 'teach' it from scratch, be sure to choose 'teach from scratch'.
Personally I was amazed at how accurately it responded to any question with the word bot in it.
Anyone who checks this program out, let me know your thoughts!

And Simba isn't? ;)

The problem is if someone make an autoresponder and every one uses it, it would become extremely easy to detect a simba bot, unless that auto responder is extremely diversified with many elements of randomness (that does not imply replying with a random sentence!).

The best bet is to make one urself, with ur own defined response etc. Just like how every scripters made their own antiban. The safer/easier option would be to just switch world when certain chat text appears though.

Whats illegal?

I think it would be as simple as antiban where you fill it out yourself.

something like

if(chatboxtext '___') then
typesend 'lol num1!1!!'

I'm not sure about the chat include, i've only read through it about 2x and thats what i remember from the top of my head.

There was a thread somewhere about using cleverbot, but it actually was found to be illegal using third party software (avoiding ads). From what I remember someone did the same thing for a different program and got a cease and desist order. The link is somewhere on the forums

Thanks for the heads up Joe.

If avoiding Advertisements creates a legal issue then using an online chatbot is off the table. However a script that incorporates KARL Chatbot 2.2 (which is a free program),or somthing of that nature, should still be as "illegal" as writing a line of anti ban. The fact that you get to teach the program what to look for and how to respond allows for every user to have a unique auto-responder.

Meaning that a legal version of this code would scan the runescape chat-box, and use the KARL Chatbot accordingly. The code would also need well thought out parameter to keep conversation short and to the point.
