Intel/Amd

So I purchased the Intel i7 3930k CPU today… So happy and all man, penis erected and all but then guess what? It comes without a heatsink and fan.

WHAT KIND OF FUCKING COMPANY SELLS A FUCKING CPU FOR 620$
WITHOUT A FAN OR HEATSINK? HOLY SHIT. ITS BAD ENOUGH YOUR CPU'S ARE WAY OVERPRICED YET YOU WANT ME TO SPEND ANOTHER 30 DOLLARS ON A FUCKING HEATSINK.

Returned it, and made an order for the Intel i7 2600k… Which leads me to my next rant involving AMD.

What the fuck Amd? I was a fan boy for 5 years. I always backed you guys up until… Your bulldozer series came out. ITS NO DIFFERENT THAN A FUCKING PHENOM X6. WASTED A WHOLE YEAR OF MY LIFE WAITING. YOU CONTINUE TO LET INTEL DOMINATE THE FUCKING MARKET. INVEST YOUR MONEY INTO SOMETHING WORTHWHILE GOD DAMN.

The end.

Yeah, I feel you on the heat sink part. I had to invest in an aftermarket cpu cooler. It's complete bull and Intel knows it. The least they can do is throw in at least a 20 dollar aftermarket cooler instead of being lazy assholes.

Believe it or not, i rep'ed you for this. I am so fucking sick of AMD and their next new-gen bullshit with the bulldozer. Wasted 320$ on it when I myself had a Phenom II Black Edition. The market is FUCKED.

I am still buying 3930k and I would had thrown out the heat sink anyways.

I prefer Noctua Cooling for valuable assets.

Between ADM and Intel, I prefer Intel, they got better performance.

I can get you cheap i7's. ;)

First I need to gather the money for my build, I have been saving for a while. I will soon get my tax return and my birthday is coming up. I'll see how much money I have for a desktop around the end of this month.

Just the processors. It depends on what you're looking for.

@Demise:
Find a processor you like and find the absolute cheapest you can of it and I'll see if I can get it cheaper locally.

Intel has better performance but you have to pay bullshit for it.

Good luck getting it online, it's out of stock as they found a bug inside the cpu.

Is it a terrible bug? I have a 3930k, lol.

I have no idea, but they said the 3930k was not supposed to come out for at least another month (?), and the ones that were released were "accidentally" shipped. But Intel delayed the overall release of the latest i7's because they found a bug somewhere. I'm not that sure because I got all this info from people who bought the 3930k @ Newegg.

Except for the eight-core part? I agree, the tech isn't really anything that new, but I have a phenom II x6 and my roommate has the new bulldozer, the eight-core one, I don't remember the name. He has that thing over-clocked to like 3.8Ghz on air, compared to mine which is Oc'd to 3.6Ghz… Times that by even just the 6 cores on each and that's a big difference…

Generally, you can't look at a higher GHz as an indicator of which CPU is better.

Say a program takes up a core or 2 to run and those cores are clocked @ 3.8ghz. But you over clock to lets say, 4.5ghz. That program will consume that 4.5ghz just as it did with the 3.8ghz.
But then you will say "it still has 8 cores, it has to be better".

While it is an "8 core", the Bulldozer only has 4 floating point cores, so it will be slower than a 6 core Phenom at multithreaded floating point tasks. So in reality, 2 cores from a Bulldozer preform somewhere near a true 2 core processor or a single core processor with Hyperthreading. This is not a step forward for AMD, they know it, hence the relatively cheap price.

Based on it's architecture, I think AMD made the Bulldozer for servers. It can preform quite well compared to it's competitors in terms of servers.
