Alright I'm ready to invest in some new RAM.

Any suggestions. I'm going full out 16gb.

What motherboard do you have?

for intel your best frequency is going to be 1600mhz

9CL would be your average, and you'd get awesome performance, you can go 8CL or 7CL to get better

DDR is double data so 1600MHz = 800
9CL / 800 = 0.011 right? so that's like a basic speed formula
so you can see 9CL / 1066.5 (2133MHz) = 0.008
7CL / 800 = 0.008 too (slightly slower) but overall better for your CPU and lower latency is more beneficial than higher frequency is imo.. frequency is better I guess for large amount of data

it is more based on your cpu, as I said just go with the regular 1600MHz and 9CL timings.. you will not realize the difference, in fact even in rendering you won't notice the difference…
nearly the only thing that notices the difference is benchmark tests…. fact is, wasting money on ram is near worthless and as we come along in technology it gets more worthless

I'd go with some solid G.Skill memory, they're extremely promising company you can get 4x4GB sticks for like $100

I have an AMD Cpu, does that make a difference?

their newer memory's optimal frequency is 1866 do you have the new bulldozer architecture? any of the FX CPU's?

if not I'd recommend the same ram I linked above, other than that everything (equation etc) is identical no matter the CPU.. only real difference is the new FX processors (and server processors differ obviously)

Right now I have 16gb @ 1333mhz, would 1600mhz make a nice difference?

I have the Phenom x6 not the new bulldozer.

no, don't waste money I thought you only had like 4GB and were going up

you can either overclock that or underclock it to like 8CL and 1333mhz, either way you won't notice the difference.. no real reason to change
