Alright, so I've been arround and I'm hearing these things about the world ending on the 21st December 2012 (my dad's bday, GF.) and I'm wondering is it true or not. I've seen the movie which they made about it and well, it seemed pretty realistic. And there are also all these websites about it and there's lots of discussing going on.

There are even websites will countdowns, do you think the world is gonna end on the 21st December 2012? If so, some say the earth's crust will move arround, or we'll have an Ice Age or something. What are your opinions?

Why? What makes you think it's going to be any different? It's all the same "OH NO WE ARE ALL GOING TO DIE" nonsense. Even if it is going to happen, who cares? There is nothing you can do to stop it. Hundreds of thousands of people have predicted the ending of the world prior to this, and none have happened. What's going to make this "prediction" be any different?

Whether it's true or not, a lot of people are making big bucks off the whole idea of doomsday. NASA did say some of the solar spikes from the sun are going to be very intense this year.

Unlike popular beliefs of alignment of planets, rouge comets, or other cosmic threads, I've always assumed it will be caused from nuclear warfare.

All that noise is because Mayan calendar is changing era ,like our calendar from 1999 to 2000 ,lol. It's the regularity of every numerical system ,that someday smaller cycle ends and then it is reseted and you increase number of superior cycle. Only odd thing is that Mayans were counting down longest cycle from 13 to 0 , but why should you care about it? It is really worth you believe that world will end that day?

A lot of people here are comparing this time to the other times people have predicted the end of the world. This time is different because it's the end of the Mayan calendar. The Mayans were apparently a very smart civilization, that had technology that wasn't available again until hundreds (maybe thousands, I can't remember) years after they died out. I'm curious as to why the calendar all of the sudden ends.

I don't think the world is going to end, but I think it makes it more believable because there is some ancient history behind it. Definitely more believable then "all electronics will stop."

I will never see this date, at this time, next year, or ever again. Every day of the rest of this year is the last time that day will ever happen. Unintelligent you say? While in general education leads to more atheism and there are a lot of amazingly stupid religious arguments out there, to call them all stupid seems wrong to me. Also, there are different types of intelligence, I know some believers, who are smart as heck, but they choose to ignore the philosophical arguments against religions, and pretty much blindly accept certain things as miracles..but as I said, in everything else they are really smart and nice people.

But your chart is pretty much spot on. (especially on certain types of believers, like creationists)

I don't think it will because the earth has been around for 5 billion years and will last for another 5 billion years. a star lives for trillions of years so long its impossible to measure when it will die by limitation. so the theory about the earth getting toasted by a supernova i don't believe it at all.

No. The 21/12/12 thing is based on the fact that's when the Mayan calendar ends. Since the leap years were invented long after the mayan calendar, the actual date of the Mayan calendar end has already past. This means that the world should already have ended.

there have been about 514 leap years since ceaser started them in 45bc, without the extra day every 4 years, today would be july 28th 2013, also the mayan calandar did not account for leap years, so tecnically the world should have ended 7 months ago. im just sayin

Apparently it seems intuitive that no human (including Einstein/ppl with 200 IQ) will ever be able to predict doomsday (as far as science goes).

This prediction is no different from previous (failed) ones, other than that it gets more publicity due to usage of mass media in 21 century.

Basically its not gona end… NASA has answered many questions that it will not end, no physical thing is gona end it. They have said that it is all internet hoax. I don't think the world will end until the majority of the human population loses all hope for our planet earth to survive. I think it is up to us as a mass population. We create our lives. And as people are learning more about earth.. We as a whole are becoming better and becoming more positive thinkers than before.

Read a little bit about a scientist michio kaku teleportation and stealth arent so much of a fantascy anymore and the first stealth fabric has been developed already that bends light around an object making you invisible, this wont be avalible to the public for an extremly long time, and as far as teleportation we can teleport light a few miles.

As for 2012 the mayan calender never predicted the end of the world, december 21 2012 is a new age of technology they claimed to have been visited by the starchildren from a planatary system that scientist confirm exist but its impossible to see from the human eye, even our telescopes today have a hard time seeing it. "The Mayans" claim that this is the year they will come back to see if were worthy of new advances, but there is a hole huge story behind the good and the bad starchildren but there is no need to get into that, just remember that literally every theory thats ever been brought up about a doomsday end of the world, alien invasion will all never happen and the earth isnt experiencing any crazy shifts or anything of that sort according to our NASA scientists which look at this stuff everyday.

im not gonna believe some mayan calander on when the world will end. all it is is another meteor thats gonna hit the earth or Y2K, lol this day will go by and the next will surface for 2020.

I wrote I dont care. Honestly how many times has it been predicted the world would end and what happenen? Nothing. Nothing is going to happen again. World will end when we kill each other off, we are doomed to selfdestruct… but thats a whole other subject.
