Please take a few moments to identify yourself.

• Do you often find yourself ONLY checking the "Runescape Scripts section"?
• Do you have less than 5 posts and been here for a month+?
• Do 95% of your posts sound like this "This script is broke"?
• Have you tried to buy SRL members/A script made?
• Have you posted anything of value since you joined (Value as in other members can use it example: posting a guide.) (If yes GOOD, if No continue )
• Have you attempted scripting? (If yes GOOD, if No continue )

Sadly if you answered Yes to any of the first 4 questions and/or No to the last two question, you are unfortunately a leech. A parasite to SRL!
But fear not, with a little motivation you too can become a thriving member of SRL!

First thing is first; Why you want to change.
Being a parasite is not fun, people generally have a distaste towards you and will be hostile if you ask a question that could be answered elsewhere.

Quick tips to Changing into a valuable asset to the community
–

Use the Search button; Posting something that could be found via Search Button will only hurt you.

Use the EDIT button, do not double post.

Posting

• Try to make all of your posts informative and useful
• One word posts are useless
• Post in the right section, if you want to talk about anything that you think/others will think is "dumb" please post in NOTA.
• If you have a problem, DESCRIBE What script/How you got encountered it/The debug Log
• Vulgar language is frowned upon; so please refrain.
• Grammar and Spelling are nice things to work on, they not only help you get the respect of Grammar Nazis but they also will help you in the real world.
• Nobody likes a "Block" of text, try to spread it apart
• Flaming is bad; so don't do it!
• Rep! If you enjoyed the script, used their script/Liked someones post etc. Rep them, even though it really has no official meaning who doesn't like getting complimented!

Scripting

• Can't Script, Tried and Failed? Don't give up, check out some video tutorials they are made for new comers and make the the daunting scripting task turn into an easier one.
• Learn the basics, EVERYONE can do this and with this knowledge you can solve most of your own problems.
• Tried and Tried but still failed? It is okay, scripting is not meant for everyone you can still be a valuable member to the SRL community. Post great posts, invite new comers, be yourself and enjoy yourself in the forums You will be a face people come to look forward to. (Note: SRL members requires a script, so you will have to learn eventually)

A) I wrote this because its shorter/Simple + Has videos; Who doesn't like a fast video!

Must start learning how to script!

This post has motivated me to do better in the SRL community. Its also good in that it gives a sense of direction to leeachers like me. I am currently looking into scripting, hopefully it isnt as hard as I've imagined it all this time!

Thanks for posting this! now that i know the definition of a true "leech" i definitely do not want to be one.. So therefore, i shall commence scripting lessons pronto =]

True leeches aren't even going to go anywhere near the tutorial section unless people start putting scripts there :p

i try not to leech but i just dont have time to learn scripting as i have coursework to do at school but i have tried i followed coh3n and homes guide bu i didnt work smart didnt load up and i kept getting meesages says dtm were not freed 2,3 even though it compiled correctly any advice would be brill :D

Try YoHoJo's video guides, they are a tad long but show you step by step with brilliant explanations. They are great for absolute beginners.

thanks i mean i was gonna learn how to script then the bot nuke came out:duh:

i made the simplest script going yeah it does 1 inv of willows then finishes but it dosent log in i have to log my self in lol need to find out why :D

my attention span is not long enough to watch yohojos videos ll at once lol but i will DEFINETLY try to put into this community

Yea I agree, I definitely wouldn't click this thread if I was here just for leeching I'd go to script section and download all the crap I want and never come back until stuff didn't work

I read, but leaching is not my style xD. If it were, I wouldn't be reading it right now. I was a scripter for RSbot 1.2x back in the day. I'm planning to learn to script with this style but Java was much easier so it may take me a while.

It doesn't take a whole lot to be considered a leech. In some peoples case, it's not that they don't want to learn to code, it's just out of their grasps. Not everybody has the patience to learn. I'm going to have a hard time forcing myself to learn the SRL API. I wasn't ever able to force myself to even relearn the RSbot API after 1.2x was updated…

Guarantee you it is easier than you think it is! You can search for any function you want, the learning curve isn't too steep and if you know any other programming language it will be a sinch.

I'm going to take your word on that. I'll start working on it probably next weekend. I need a time where I don't have anything else going on so I can just focus on it for a day.

I have 2 small kids at home currently. I just do not have time.

lol based on that thread, when you register you are already a leech. i think that you should add that leechers also ask if there is a bot for "x"

5months old, almost 900 posts. see, what you're doing is telling people if they have no posts and only look at what this community offers for free, than they aren't welcome. if you want to stop leechers, try informing people to post useful infromation rather than just posting comments like "omg thats funny" or "this is interesting." regardless every botting forum is going to have many leechers. go look in the rid chatbox, tons of people asking dumb questions which gets annoying because our forum is small and easy to navigate.

now believe me, i dont want to see this community turn into one like powerbots were they have thousands of members which contribute nothing, i actually like seeing how hard it is to become a member on this forum. i tried scripting by myself and failed miserably xD, but i wont stop trying

Well I just joined the SRL community and I'm trying to figure out scripting a bit so I can give back. Thanks for the tutorial :). If anyone can help me figure out the anti-leach in the rangeguilder script I'd love you forever! It would go toward helping me learn as well as run a bot while I'm learning. Double win!

Im a Leach :(

I'm still fairly new to SRL/Simba. I have a busy life and haven't played RS in several months; so I have been inactive in the SRL community. (Especially after experiencing the "bot nuke" and having wasted 150$+ on nexus scripts). Is the SRL community immune to Jagex suing us because we are independent people creating scripts without gaining profit? I am not computer savvy and inexperienced in java (c++ or whatever you call it scripting). Where can I learn basic Java/SRL scripting? Any tutorials, videos or guides? Please PM me. :) I want to learn and contribute to the Simba community. Thanks :) and happy botting!

Please ignore my previous post. I just discovered the Tutorial Island Forms, Development Forms and Runescape Tutorials. Thanks to everyone in the SRL community, it is like a library of information. I will learn alot reading them and playing around with scripts; then if their is parts I still don't understand (which is inevitable), I can ask more educated questions.

Lol, I've watched the vids, practiced scripting, and I'm still not done a simple one monster fighting bot (one critical error that could lead to a ban, otherwise functional).. I really don't think there's hope for me. I'll keep trying. On the bright side, I can do a lot of the simple anti-leeches in peoples script.

Any other suggestions you guys have to learn scripting?

Terrible persuasive techniques in this thread, won't persuade the leachers to take up script writing. You should reason with your targeted audience, don't make them feel hated or underestimated, as you can see from this quote: "The guide to rid yourself of your leeching habits" taken from the BEGINING paragraph, this is unappealing to me, and will do to your audience. You can't change someones point of view by trying to tear down their self esteam.

I would've started your thread with a rhetorical question, like: "Would you like to reveal your inner potential?" That will capture the audience, making them feel like they have potential. When you said how to identify yourself as a leach, you said "Do 95% of your posts sound like this "This script is broke". This makes me cringe, I think its completly wrong to bring sterio-types of the so called "leachers" Your targeted audience will be disgusted or offended. I don't have much programing skills, but I can critique someone on their thread, about how uneffective their post is.

Instead of saying: "Do 95% of your posts sound like this "This script is broke"
I would say: "Try to post constructive posts, becuase over time you'll pick up the skills necessary for programing/making bots work."

Mr. R4nd0m, I would advise you to change your post, and reason with the audience.

Leeching is so not me… I came here to learn scripting from scratch. Something in my mind told me it would be useful for me in the future!

Like many already stated, most of the leechers most likely won't read this thread unless they rly want to change. Still, rly nice thread!

I meet most of the listed criteria about leechers, but that's because I'm just reading different forums to keep up with the botting scene. When I have the time to go back playing for real, this is the community I really want to be part of.

Inspirational to say the least, I came to SRL to learn and in 2 days I've learned enough to write a basic powerminer/chopper. So I figure in a month I will earn my membership?

I see where you are coming from, although you should try viewing more topics where your help is needed/useful. If you understand the topic, you can actively participate in the thread and instead of just reading onto the next one, you can contribute.

Follow the first tutorial and read the thread on easy to fix errors and I am sure you can figure out 99% of anti-leech.

I'm glad I read this. I favorited the beginner scripting tutorial thread and i'm going to attempt scripting tomorrow. Leech no more… hopefully. :)

its just a little bit of code that is delibrately mucked up so people dont just take the script and run, they have to actually put effort in. most anti leech are just undeclared bits.

Why don't I make scripts? I work in IT 50 hours a week and am bored stiff of writing scripts to fix issues / make issues easier. So when I come to relaxing and playing RS / botting, the last thing I want to do is learn howto script bots.

Having said that I learned how to run the Simba and fix several issues with all scripts I run without making a post, so I feel I am not 100% leaching…

Thats what the community here is. I havent been on much due to studies and suff, but the SRL community, in my experience, is the one which is loved by everyone and loves everyone back. Even if someone came here just to leach, you have the power to make them appreciate the hard work done by todays scripters and makes them want to join in. Bravo! Really. :)

so yeah im working on contributing…

1. go to the beginners/intermediate section and read all the tuts over here.
2. open up scripts, and learn how the scripter made them (what methods they used)
3. talk to ppl on skype/TV (lots of ppl r willing to help via skype/TV, im one of them :) )
4. if you havnt already done so, try creating scripts of your own. start off small (maybe a M1D1 miner) then gradually get bigger.

^ probably the easiest way to really learn how to script :) gl

After you have read some guides and tried coding stuff along YoHoJo's tutorials, you should try downloading and then examining scripts around. I remember getting really excited when I fully understood how Joe's Giant killer worked.(that script had lots of comments in it, look out for scripts like that)

I have been doing this for the past week or so. Reading tutorials, and following along with YoHoJo's video tutorials. Felt like a total boss(:norris:) when he helped me make the script for 'Save The Goldfish'. I also have been studying some of Ashaman88's work with the Varrock Smither… I have asked him questions and he has helped in many ways.

Main reason I don't even try to join in with this community? I don't have the time nor desire to learn how to write scripts. Although, I would happily buy scripts if it were possible for non members.

Why not just use the scripts without anti leech? There are only a handle that have it in there

Then learn how to fix the anti leech. It honestly only takes a few minutes at most to figure out for most scripts.

My current training only has a small block of C programming. The tutorials here are very helpful so far, I'm just looking for somewhere to apply and build my current knowledge.

I'm brand new. I have no training whatsoever. I seem to in a little over my head with the code I am trying to figure out the antileech on. But I would love to learn. There should be some sort of mentorship program. Left here all on my own I'm more prone to give up.

I dont wanna leech :( The idea of sucking blood disgusts me…. I just came here from RSbot. Oh wait. Am i allowed to say that? The complexity of using Simba is much more appealing to me than the simple client from Powerbot. I am excited to be here! and cry through the struggle of learning… haha

This actually explains our hostile attitude to outsiders who come here to use our resources to never be seen again. Good!
