Simba scripts getting sold.

Well I found out today and I am positive that this is a simba script :

http://merchanting.net/forums/showthread.php?18259-Lazy-Merchant-status-(Migrating-to-new-Botclient)

On one of the last post it says it is compatible with smart and ofcourse that means that this is a simba script I could still be wrong but I am positive it is.

I don't mind that but they are selling those scripts won't take long till they decide to sell other bots too.

Opinions about this?
I'm against sale of simba scripts becouse it's open source.

Worst thing this bot was developed by someone who was helped on this site : Stuart.

It is allowed, lots of discussion on Staff boards and some on the lower boards about it.
Pretty much as long as it's not done here, it's okay.
Not 100% sure how that's simba though, not sure how they would keep their scripts safe, unless they are smart and obfuscate/auth them.

Theres really nothing that we could do anyway, its an open source program, they're free to do with it what they wish for the most part.

Edit: I'm not sure if they are talking about simba or another bot. I believe jBot was released yesterday and is a bot client based on image and color finding…

I really have no problem with people selling their own scripts they worked hard on if they are of good quality. I personally have been thinking about trying to make enough for some more Membership on RS from the Aviansie script I'm making, God knows if it will even work good enough for me to deem it worthy. I plan on releasing it for Members+ regardless, as I do with all of my scripts.

Stuart sayd this :

Yes it is compatible with SMART

He also asked help here on the forums under the same name so it's defenitly 100% simba no doubt.

Simba is open source, not really anything we can do about it as far as I am aware.

Well not much your right but I personally just don't like this this could ruin the rs economy again when they start selling other bots.
I wonder tho if they modify simba to work with auth codes and make it closed source what will be next?

It doesn't have to be Simba, SMART can be used by basically anything.

I sayd the script writer went on these forums and asked help on how to write a script so it will probably be simba.

But is that legal, Dgby? I thought SMART was limited to only latest versions of SCAR and all versions of Simba.

SMART is just a library, You can load it up from any programming language that supports dynamic libraries.

Just wondering can someone just patent smart?

Patenting is for ideas; someone could theoretically patent the idea(s) implemented by SMART.

I don't think that is quite what you meant, though. SMART is released under some license set by it's owner/copyright holder (BenLand100). This license may choose to allow or restrict distribution, use in commercial applications, and other rights.

For example, if a piece of software is licensed under the GPL, any derivatives must also be open source, but they can be sold commercially.

A very talented bot coder recently sold out to Jagex when he went to RuneFest and since then has ceased all bot production for what I'm guessing is a job at Jagex.

Is this true…? I mean if it is , Lucky guy there…
I would take the job within seconds ;]
