Making maps for SPS

When making a map for SPS, all you need to care for is:
  1. Compass is aligned perfectly to North.
  2. Where ever you are getting the map from, it must be exactly 100% in scale with RS minimap.
  3. There must be no text, no labels, no crossmarkers on the map.

The easiest way is to open the worldmap in RS, set it to 100% zoom, remove all texts and markers and such, and take a screenshot. If you're combining these screenshots to make a larger map, you need to be exactly precise with the positioning!

Do not worry about how to make the maps into 500x500 areas.
That will be done with a script that parses the whole worldmap to those areas. SPS 2.0 will not have any folders such as "runecrafting altars", I will combine all the maps – on the surface and below it – to one map and then parse it into areas.

Please note that SPS will not be receiving updates in a while now. I need to focus all my energy and time on SPS 2.0.

Can you upload the latest map image please :), like I took a screenshot of Varrok, but seems like I messed up :X

If you really want the latest world map here it is.

I wouldn't use it though since you will have to redo all yours paths and such. I used the script in sps/tools to make it.

Edit-

Marpis: Is the map attached usable? Started with a blank canvas. I took the top right hand SS of the map(using the minimap to line up the red box) and then put the areas in overlapping to ensure accuracy and then finally took a SS of the bottom left hand corner to overlap. This map is the wilderness_dungeons, It could possibly open up that area for Fist of Guthix and green dragons.

Could you add how to make custom maps for things like dungeons?, or do you just do the same as this?

Hmm whats with the resolution on that map :S I think its cuz u saved it as Jpeg? The symbols and map spots are soo small? To a human I can see that its the fist of guthix in the bottom right with the bank symbol and what not but with it that blurry and small Iunno if SPS will recognize that because it isn't minimap size?

How did you resize the image?

I made a couple of dungeon maps. Pretty much walk 3 tiles, take a screenshot. Paste those 50 screenshots in Photoshop, cut out the circles, set them all to 50% opacity, put the puzzle together!

PM me if you're a scripter needing this!

That is at 100% zoom. It is only that size because it is on here. If it saves to that size and not actual size(should be an option on the windows viewer) then I will attach a .rar with it in it. It is very clear and visible when you view it with windows viewer.

marpis, use the runescape_surface_creater.simba in SPS/tools to divide the map into 500x500 chunks. It's really fast and works well. Some parts may need to be changed to work with a larger map if you're including dungeons, etc.

You will have to edit the ! signs out. Go to the world map in game an zoom to 200%, get an idea of what the area looks like without the symbol being on that spot. Erase what you have to and rebuild. Then ask Coh3n how to add maps. He said location of the "land" areas doesn't matter.

Marpis, What's the best way to make it from the Mini Map?
As the Location I need is the Abyss, and theres no world Map for it.
Hope you can help.

Take screenshots and crop them together. Either that or if you can find one on some fansite.

After you take the screenshots and make the map, what do you do after that to use them in your script?

Mat

2012-02-11 14:30:57

you get a new script, Here's my temple I used to create the paths.
you walk around to a point start the script and it give you the location.

program new;
{$i srl/srl.Simba}
{$i sps/sps.simba}
Var
begin
SetupSRL;
SPS_Setup(RUNECRAFTING_ALTARS,['0_1']);//Map Name and location
Writeln(SPS_GetMyPos);//Tells you what point you are.
end.

No no, I know how to use SPS, just not with maps that you make yourself.

There are no full tutorials on how to make, save, name, and use your own SPS maps.

These are the surfaces that most people are aware of :-

// Supported SPS surfaces
RUNESCAPE_SURFACE = 1;
DUNGEON_ESSENCE_MINE = 2;
DWARVEN_MINE = 3;
RUNECRAFTING_ALTARS = 4;

There is now a fifth surface RUNESCAPE_DUNGEONS (that if it is not already added, soon will be, and that is ) Look here …

This is all the work that was done by Hero.

To make a map, you need these guidelines …

Making maps for SPS:
http://villavu.com/forum/showthread.php?t=70696&highlight=maps

There is a tool that was /is written by Coh3n, Nava2 , masterBB and marpis (see below).

Depending on the boolean settings at the top of the script you can create a map, and/or slice it. Read through the whole of the SRL Positioning tutorial and I am pretty sure you will find out how to do it.

SRL Positioning tutorial:
http://villavu.com/forum/showthread.php?t=66266&highlight=Positioning

I'm pretty sure that while it hasn't been tied up in a nice bow (aka beautiful tutorial), all the information is here to add your own maps for SPS. (if they aren't already there)

Cool, so now I have a bunch of dungeon maps. Again, how do I store them and use them in my script?

NickMystre

2012-02-11 15:54:23

I see that the dungeons maps haven't been added to SPS yet, but you do have the 4 existing surfaces to play around with.

Then it's just a case of using this script - identifying your surface and map slices / segments, and your points you want to walk.

DWARVEN_MINE is the RS surface you want to walk (but this could also be RUNESCAPE_SURFACE, DUNGEON_ESSENCE_MINE, or RUNECRAFTING_ALTARS) , and ['0_0', '0_1'] are the two map slices / segments that the points you want to walk exist on.

Each time you change surface you must run :-
SPS_Setup(DWARVEN_MINE, ['0_0', '0_1']);

You use SPS_GetMyPos to identify each point before hand and load them into the pts - TPointArray.

Then SPS_WalkPath(pts) walks the path for you.

program spsTest;
{$i srl/srl.simba}
{$i sps/sps.simba}

var
t: integer;
pts: TPointArray;

begin

clearDebug();
setupSRL();

SPS_Setup(DWARVEN_MINE, ['0_0', '0_1']);
pts := [Point(278, 506), Point(329, 509), Point(359, 489), Point(392, 483)];

SPS_WalkPath(pts);

end.

I know how to use sps, you don't need to keep telling me how to use it over and over.

Putting the dungeon maps into the img folder does not allow you to use them.

Mat

2012-02-11 21:46:03

Sps 1 doesn't support dungeons does it?
I sware it doesn't (on iPhone so can't check).
Sps1.5 does.
Mat

NickMystre

2012-02-11 21:50:40

In that case, I'm sure I misled Nebula. (Sorry, Nebula!!) Do you know why SPS1.5 would work for dungeons and not SPS ?

Mat

2012-02-11 21:53:42

Well as I said I can't check but kat I remember if u wanted to walk in a dungeon sps 1.5 was needed.
But I can't check:/
Mat
Edit: say you used the runecrafting altar folder? You put the image there and call it in, then use the debug thing I posted above to create ur points and it should work and try tolerance 0.5.

NickMystre

2012-02-11 22:00:30

@Nebula: Sorry for misleading you earlier about dungeon maps.

Here is how to use them. See this section by Marpis …

@KeepBotting: This is for you too (I think :) ). Hope you see this.

The current SPS (not 1.5) does support dungeons, you just have to add it. Open sps.simba, and look at SPS_Setup. You'll notice a case for all the different surfaces. You just have to add a new surface that uses the maps you made.
