Making SPS maps?

Is there a tutorial somewhere on where to do this? Grats made me a an SPS map of the ZMI underground and it worked at the time, but now I can't seem to get it to work more than 1 run at a time.

So I was just wondering if there's a tutorial on making your own maps somewhere that I've over-looked. I have my MM screen shots, but I'm having trouble making the map with just MS Paint. I hope someone might be able to give me some points.

Here's what I'm working with:

Wouldn't it be easier to take a screenshot of the world map?

Edit: Here you go

that's what i though, or are the colors different. i would like a tutorial im willing to try making some.

You have to zoom all the way out, and make 500x500 sections I believe. I can't confirm as I'm at the office.

I am also pretty sure they are made with world map but 100% zoom not 200% like your image.
And then yea something about 500x500?

Ya use the 100% zoom. To remove the text, simply exit the map, and use your minimap to take parts of the map this blocked by the text, and replace it.

I had tried this at one point for a script, but the world map and minimap are actually different. Look closely at walls and stuff

Why not use the RS console to zoom out and take pictures?

Olly

Its hard to do it extremely accurate and takes some time but I quickly came up with this. Basically just a puzzle :P Could have done a better job if i had more time on my hands.

(minimap)

Then I made this one in about 2 mins haha.

(worldmap)

Is it just me or does the mini-map have slightly more detail then the world map

Yes there's much more detail with the MM than using the world map. I was just curious if there was a tutorial somewhere, or atleast if there were more appropriate programs to use for this apart from MS Paint.

I could give that a try, akonowns, and we'll see if it does the trick.

I believe SPS uses the world map.
Yes they are different looking, but SPS accounts for it with tolerance.
Flight there's a thread somewhere in which people worked on SPS maps together, try to find it and see who posted in it to know who knows how to make them properly.
Ask marpis too durf! PM him!

Perfect your compass angle :p

If you want tomorrow il make a better map using the minimaps since I will have alot of spare time, I used dreamweaver if anyone was wondering. But for now I have to go to sleep :)

Here's what Grats made for me before he left for the Holidays.

As you can see it's a compilation of many MM screen shots with filtered out player & NPC dots, combined in a 500x500 map.

Edit:
Yeah the world map you provided, akonowns, failed big time. :/ I'll see if I can edit your first map piece to get rid of the dots.

Guise, I said I'm like 90% sure its world map, not MM shots…

May I recommend looking at this, since this is what makes the maps that are used? https://github.com/Coh3n/SPS/blob/master/tools/runescape_surface_creator.simba

Thank you, Myles, I'll give that a shot today.

@YoHoJo:
The one that Akonowns posted was of the world map, and it did worse than any I've tried. :S

Heres one I made with more time, the best i can do with the images you provided. Props to anyone that can do better.
Edit: GRRR! I left the damn monsters and that on there….

Zoom all the way out with this specific spot and make sure that there are not other areas on the same level. I think if there is it will throw off the coords and this will all be for naught.

World map is same detail as minimap on software mode I believe.

Kyle Undefined

2011-12-24 12:51:10

Yeah, they are. That's why you use the world map, then slice it into 500x500 pieces.

Olly

Here it is on software mode;

I can see the difference, don't know about anyone else.

To me 200% on the world map is as close to minimap style as I can see personally. Anything farther out cleans up the pixels along the walls. Looking at the other SPS tiles that might be fine. Add it and try. Also shading doesn't seem to be that big of a deal either seeing as there are bits of the surface map that has different shade areas overlapping. Good job on the map. I'll try it real fast.

Edit: I see the shading difference if that is what you mean.

I am also interested in adding maps to SPS. I have PMed Marpis for instructions specifically what the FactorX and FactorY are. But I have a few questions you guys may be able to help me with too. Does the png have to be 500 x 500? what if the map is smaller than 500 x 500 for instance the Rogues Den. Also where can I get world map screenshots of places like the Rogues Den or the Sorceress Garden?

The ZMI maps ive shown in this thread were not 500x500, I just pasted it on to a 500x500 canvas and filled the rest of the area in black. As for getting world map screenshot of rogues den and sorc garden. I'm guessing you will have to map it via putting minimap pictures together, which is a pain.

Well when Coh3n gets back I'll talk to him and figure out how all this works.

OK thank you ggzz for your helpful link and akonowns for the information. My only question is now what are FactorX and FactorY? I read in the official SPS thread that they could be the size of the map pieces or the whole dungeon map itself. Which one is it? Doesnt really make sense since it is 400 x 400 for the normal RS surface(in SPS.simba) when the images are 500 x 500 does this mean I should include an overlap or am I just completely wrong like I think I am. Any help is appreciated!

You need to run mapmaker.simba in SPS to generate the 500x500 chunks. Although I wrote that to only make the world map, it will probably have to be changed to work properly with other maps.
