Does God exist?

Gu3st...

Yes, God does exist. You cannot deny that (without making yourself look stupid).

But does he exist in any other way than an imagination in the human brain?

In other words; Is he 'something' that's in all of the universes atoms, electrons and all other matter or a 'force' in the same way i.e gravity is a force?

This is the way I look at God: God existence is just like Money's existence; Without humans to think (believe) there is any value in it or to it, it would not exist. Imagine a human born without any knowledge to human or earth's history; Would a concept like "God" exist? I think not.

Why are there no other animals than humans that praise something "higher" or believe in God?
The only (intelligent) answer I can think of is because they have no knowledge of anything named "God" or anything that can be looked at as "God", and therefore God does not exist for them.

God is merely the belief of God, just as Money is merely the belief of Money.

I say yes God exists.. Think about this.. If God never existed, a human would have invented one by now. As for animals not believing.. They have a lower intelligence that we do.. U cannot tell hat an animal thinks thus leave that out of the argument..

The sun was considered to be God, once upon a time. It provided us with light, warmth, made living possible, growing crops possible, it ruled our schedule by telling us when to wake and when to sleep. The sun is and was in a way the main provider of life… along with water.

Why was it considered God? Perhaps because whatever is bigger than us is Godly. Perhaps because we depend on it, it is Godly.

And as such, the sun is a higher force, just like money, because it rules many things. And if we were to define a highest force? Well, God.

Therefore, I personally believe, that science has proven there MUST be a higher power.

God is a term we use to justify what we do not comprehend or understand. Don't get me wrong, I believe that there is a God. I believe that God is always there for us when we need him.

But God is just a belief. We, as Human Kind, have changed the meaning of God multiple times for our own justification.

@Football, Science has "proven" that something is created from nothing…Big bang theory. What we see today was a simple point in the cosmos and has expanded to this.
Also another aspect is Something can be made in to nothing. Aka AntiMatter. Those are all theories set forth by science but they are not proven. Just because we can't see something does mean its not their.

But I think you're actually asking if there's any manifestation of God. I guess God exists in people's speech and communities. If the churches aren't a manifestation of God, then whose manifestation are they?

Does God exist in atoms? Well a church is full of that..

Just because they exist doesn't mean God made them. God didn't make cars, humans made them. We, as a species, evolved into who we are today.

What is your biblical evidence? I haven't seen any, from anyone, since you have to believe in God for the Bible to be true.

Ya, I forgot, you made them - along with everything else in this universe. You think (that's a keyword you missed out), that we evolved into what we are. You think we evolved from some bacteria, into an ape, and into a human - but that's not proven either. I think God created Adam and Eve, and the whole Bible is biblical evidence with Jesus doing various miracles. You cannot deny that Jesus existed, and tbh, you just have to connect a few dots (that should have been already connected). You instead are trying to connect some dots that are out of the page's border, and mistake ink spots for dots.

Science has absolutely not proven the bigbang theory.. they're trying to tell me that out of no where, some explosion happened.. Firstly, that theory is based on the theory that the universe is expanding everyday.. thus if something expands, it must have a point where it all started.. Problem with that is that no one know what nothing looks like.. thus we cannot say that the big bang happened from "Nothing"..

@Camo Developer, that stalemate is called an "argument to ignorance," it's a fallacy. I think it is fully plausible that what happened to the Sumerians (Who can be credited for religion) was similar to Hernan Cortez's landing in Mexico. I'm not saying this as what I believe or a fact, but take out all the nouns and pronouns in the bible. You have a being not from earth coming down from the sky in a vehicle spouting flames with superior knowledge. And then with Enoch, you have the story of him going up into one of these "vehicles" and then coming back with knowledge of how to farm and other things to progress society. This is called Ancient Astronaut theory, I'm sure some of you have heard of it, and although some stuff it explains is a little far-fetched, it is definitely a notion to keep in mind. If an alien landed in your backyard and told you it was god would you believe it?

How is it a fact? Because a book says so?

The whole universe didn't just appear out of no where, it has expanded and grown to what we know today.

It's called evolution, you evolve into better species based on learned skills and knowledge. The best of the species survive, the worst die off, that keeps the species moving forward.

Also, you're putting words in my mouth. I believe in many things, science being one of them. Since you can have actual, testable facts, unlike the Bible which is not fact. There's hundreds of accounts. You'll find that Pontius Pilate was a real person, that the apostles were, pretty much everyone in the Bible can be historically proven to be a real person. Look up "Jesus" on Wikipedia and you'll find all the proof that you need - 1000's of credible sources proving that he was, etc (I've already done this). It's expanded…great. So instead of just focusing on Earth, you want to go to the whole universe (which human's have barely managed to explore the fringes of) - yet you think that the planets came from no where (or maybe they evolved some a bacteria - Aha!) - the line is endless - and evolution can only explain a miniscule fraction of all creation.

However, I will assure you that the planets, the sun, etc, did not evolve from a bacteria that crawled out from the sea, or any bacteria for that matter. And btw, science is not final. Hundreds of theories that people took for granted as so-called facts have been proven as wrong. For proof, here you go.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superseded_scientific_theories
One example is the flat Earth theory, where people thought they could fall off of Earth.
Wikipedia has hundreds of sources listed per page (usually), so you can flip through them.

God exists. Science is entirely made up of theories, as nothing can be 100% prove. I wonder how the earth and universe was made from the "bigbang" if it clearly says in "science" that something cannot come from nothing.. In a religious view, god was Always there, so he never came from anything, but is something, if you can understand that. You probably can't since even the smartest human only knows 7-12% there is to know about Anything on earth. I personally, have 2 ex-atheist friends. They both didn't believe in god, yet one of them told me that he always argued with religious folks over religion, because he wanted to get away from it, it was as if the idea of god was pulling him toward "god". Eventually, about 3 months ago he converted and became a christian, telling me that he felt very relieved and happy because there was something more to life, something to believe in. Faith and belief are two very important factors in our lives.. If we never believed in something or someone, I assure you, you would not be here today, as belief goes into another key factor which is Hope. I am a christian, even though my mother and father didn't put emphasis on religion, saying prayers etc. I feel as though believing in anything, anything at all gives you greater understand about life as a whole.
Science and religion both intertwine and share qualities, kind of like Muslims and Jews, Palestine and Israel. Both argue, but are very similar. Think about it, if you believed in god etc, wouldn't this be all in someone's plan? To make people wander away and disagree, not believe in god? Wouldn't a mastermind deceiver want this to happen? Want people to turn away from god etc.. Believing in something is better than nothing.. Same as doing something with your life is better than nothing etc.

Even if you don't believe in god, Jesus and Muhammad were the two Most influential, greatest people in History. Those two people shaped the earth. Try to think about a world without the bible, or ten commandments to guide people into making the Right decisions.. Compare the ten commandments to Hammurabi Code. The commandments gave rules, and the only punishment was not having protection etc from god. Hammurabi who was not a monotheistic person made a set of rules in which almost every punishment was death or mutilation.. Besides, if I wasn't a christian, didn't believe in a higher being, I wouldn't care what I did on earth, since of course it doesn't' really matter right, as we all turn into dust afterwards with no afterlife to expect.. No.. I wonder why some atheists etc Fear death, fear losing their jobs, fear hurting others.. If there is no god, then why not just do whatever Pleases you? Since of course there is no real punishment for it after you die.. Smh.

There's nobody out there that has these 'Ub3r' powers which we all dream of having. Prove to me that God does exist then. The whole science quote 'Nothing cannot come from something' is a double ended sword because if that were true, who created God? In 100 years from now, what we know today will most likely be garbage.. And that cycle will start over again in the 100 years after that etc, just like with the earth was flat, now its round thing.. Science can never be right as long as we Humans make it. Science is just a way to Explain things in nature and around us, just like Religion. Science is based of theories, religion is based of "supernatural occurrences" with divine beings and supernatural beings. Since everything we see and do is within each human's concept of reality, then for all i know, we are in a computer program made my divine beings.. For all I know. Xd

It is a fact that Jesus is a real person. It is also a fact that the whole universe did not suddenly appear like a magic trick. I think it's funny that you don't believe in God's existence, yet you believe that you evolved from a microscopic bacteria into the most intelligent (questionable in your case) and able animals on Earth. I think you would believe anything as long as it was not God (superiority complex?).

I had to pick this post out of this whole discussion.

The thought of a "God" or deity creating this universe is a lot more comparable to a magic trick than it's counter theory.

No, if he created a rock big enough he can't lift then that makes him not all-powerful, the rock is more powerful than him. You're turning the rock into God because it is now the most powerful being in the universe (not even the previous "God" can lift it!).

It's a trick question and the correct answer for people that believe in God is "No, God cannot create something more powerful than he is." You're changing the definition of rock and turning it into God.

The Bible says that there are people who have seen sufficient evidence, but they have suppressed the truth about God. Also says: "Seek me and find me.. when you seek me with all your heart, you will have found me."
It has also fore-spoke about drugs and pharmaceuticals being abused in our time.. What about freemason's.. George Bush says he doesn't believe in God yet he's a damn freemason worshiping what? All those non-believers somehow are Freemasons.. Don't believe me? Why does Jagex have the Eyes of Horus all over their game.. Why "Occult" floors in dungeoneering? Do they not believe in some higher power? Just remember guys the National Anthem of America mentions God.. as do many other national anthems.. Even the British one has "God save the queen"..

One last thing it says is that "Those who do not believe, Idolize money, Pagan Gods, and all things Gold and silver." This is often proven true.. Bill Gates loves money.. Steve Jobs loves money.. All the guys at the top.. LOVE money.. they idolize it.. Rappers Idolize it.. all your favourite artists idolize these worthless stuff.. When you die, your not taking any of it with you..

Sufficient enough evidence for me.. those of you saying he doesn't exist.. has never tried to understand nor seek him.

Bible also says that "Every knee shall bow, and every tongue shall confess of God." Have you ever thought about that one line..

When atheist women are having babies.. they always somehow ending up saying "Oh God".. Even when you get in a bad accident.. you somehow end up saying "OMG".. You never for once say gosh.. you say "God" without even realizing it sometimes.. I've seen it happen enough times.

The point of science is, basically, to figure out how the physical world works by only means of our senses. Proving old theories wrong and creating new ones just means, to them, that they're gaining more knowledge and understanding of the universe, it doesn't mean they're dumb.

Although debating whether Jesus' existence was real or not, is pretty pointless. He's in many historical books such as the Bible, Quran, Roman records, and the Dead Sea scrolls. Don't say these books are just fairy tales and stories, they've been passed down since their respectful time periods as factual events, why would they suddenly turn into stories written by old men today?

Who are u to say anyone else is ignorant and dumb.. shut up go crawl back into your hole and stop reading.. All science is based off a theory.. As quoted by one of the greatest philosophical quotes to ever exist.. "There are no facts, only interpretations". Dont even mention quantum tech unless you yourself can explain to me why we cannot explain quantum entanglement.. if you do, you sir will get the Nobel prize that no one even Einstein has ever gotten.. I believe its now a 50 Million dollar reward to a genius like you who can explain why we cannot figure it out and why "The speed of the twin particles reacting to eachother is faster than light." You go to your science convention and don't try to prove us wrong.. I can easily say that as well.. Evolution is NOT proven.. it takes MILLIONS of years for something to evolve naturally so don't bullshit us. <— Quoted from the Science centre here in Ontario.. Go tell them they're wrong.

Oh and btw.. teleporting is not possible AT ALL.. unless you are a particle yourself.. and your clearly not. Your a bunch of particles not just one.. teleporting depends on one's mass.. I had a physics teacher that worked on a NASA project to determine if an egg has internal cracks WITHOUT opening it or scanning it.. Pretty stupid project but she was the crazy bitch that taught us physics n stuff.. Turns out she was right when she said only particles can teleport due to them having a very puny mass.. So you cannot teleport.. neither can objects.

Religion is not final either, Jesus was a real person, but most likely not the Jesus you think of. There are plenty of famous historians that were alive at his time and soon after (Plutarch for example) and you're saying not one of them found the things the bible says Jesus did significant. If it had really happened, it would have been written down in something other than the bible.

Now for the whole debate over the big bang theory, watch the "Through the Wormhole" episode that goes through it in depth. After that, it should make sense to you.

I believe that god is within all. I think that the yearn to believe in a higher power or the ability to submit to the thought of a higher power is so easy for humans to grasp because we are consciously or unconsciously connected to a higher power (and every human being) in some way.

I have been meditating a great deal lately and I've stumbled upon a few thoughts that have made me ponder many new scenarios of our space-time relationship with "god". I have also been going through the works of great philosophical minds to try and sort it all out properly.

What I've gathered thus far is that the mind has the ability to switch between 3 different states; commonly known as the past, present and future. We can only be immersed in any of these three states of consciousness at once. We can reminisce of fond memories, meditate and take in everything around us and inside us, or plan for the future; but we cannot do all of these at once. It takes a great deal of inner focus to do even one of these simple tasks.

Now I know this is only a theory, but it has been suggested that the fourth dimension is time. What is time? Well, it is undeniable that time consists of the past, present and future. It's quite interesting to me that the subcategories of time correlate with the three possible states of consciousness. This possibly suggests that consciousness hails from the fourth dimension, which in turn suggests that we as humans will never be able to ACTUALLY grasp the concepts of the fourth dimension since we cannot be in all three states of consciousness at the same time.

To bring this back to my main point, I think that the feeling of "god" is simply our connection with the fourth dimension. We can only have a taste of what it's like and our mind is aware of that. We are the only beings that worship a higher power because we have harnessed consciousness, which has very much to do with a higher dimension!

Bahahaha! You did not just like Wikipedia as your "source"! Omg, that's hilarious. The Earth is just a small area in our universe, there is so much out there that we can't even imagine! How could you only think of Earth when there is so much out in space?

I didn't say planets came from nowhere (I also didn't say they evolved from bacteria(You're just trying to attack for no reason)). They formed after the big bang, millions of years later. Evolution explains all creation, and it has been proven. Why do you keep saying the planets and stuff evolved from bacteria? I never said anything like that, is that what you think evolution is?

Lol the flat Earth theory? You do realize that was in a time where they couldn't cross the sea and the flat horizon gave them that theory, right? Not because God was involved. Oh, and the "100's of sources", they were all proven false by what, oh, more science. Not one of them was proven wrong by religion. Did you even read the article? Or did you just do a quick google search hoping no one would read the page?

You think you are breaking apart the Bible - but it's just an illusion. Science does not overrule religion. It only does that to people who try to convince themselves that they are open-minded individuals. The Big-Bang theory is a guess lol. Your basing what you think off of someone's guess.
Religion>science

Science overrules religion in every way. Why? Because you can explain/show/test something without having to believe in a "greater, higher power" for it to work. You can take your work, go to any person in the world (Hypothetically), and get them to understand what was going on, without having to rip them from their religion in order to understand. That is where science overrules religion.

Religion is meant for spiritualness, not to try and prove everything that you don't understand, that wasn't the point of the Bible. That's where your entire "argument" goes down the drain.

There you go attacking again for no reason. The point of these threads is for people to read each others opinions and have a nice discussion. Not attack someone for having a different opinion. Also, these type of threads are aimed at the open minded people who can think for themselves and not for the closed minded.

As for your second point, but that's a sin, since you're not married to his girlfriend. You'd go to hell. This contradicts you trying to be "religious".

From: NxTitle
Yep. My friends, this has become a full-out flame war and this is going nowhere. Everyone has their feet firm in the sand on their position and specific people (dixienormous) are trolls just trying to incite a flame war. I'd almost say specifically that you aren't religious, but instead a bored kid who's just trying to make people angry.

I couldn't agree more. This is my last post to any of them, until they can send me full, factual links and sources that proves me wrong (And no, Wikipedia is not a source). You can tell when he (dixie) gets mad or upset, he starts spouting more nonsense than usual. I don't mind listening to other peoples opinions, it's actually fun learning why a person thinks they way they do or believe in what they do. It can be very knowledgeable if you allow it.

Sabzi…UMadBro?
Lolz, raging like a mofo just because you think your an intellectual. Did you miss the article where I listed hundreds of your precious scientific theories were proven wrong by later science? Don't be ignorant, science is worse then religion, it's portion research, and a larger portion of guessing and if this, then that. Humans know very little of this world, let along others. And the existence of Jesus is a fact, please re-read your research (preferably not with sources like: Bobby Mills from Ms. Perruker's kindergarten class), then we can discuss.

Your "hundred of proven wrong science" was proven wrong by further science, nothing to do with religion. You're the ignorant person here, and how is science worse than religion? Because it has tangible explanations? Religion is all about faith, which is 100% guess since you don't actually know that it exists. Show me your facts that Jesus did exist, outside of the Bible.

From: dixienormous
I laugh at people who don't believe in Jesus's existence.
You've never seen FDR, does that mean you don't believe in him? Or was he just a figment of the world's imagination. People who can never see beyond their screen are incredibly ignorant.
Josh, I never said it meant they're dumb, it means that their theories are no more certain then God's existence - and it's foolish to pretend otherwise.
Plus, I would like if someone would disagree with me on this:
God exists not only because he created everything, but because humans believe in him. You will never be able to take that away.
Still laughing at this:

I laughed at this, because this shows your ignorance. FDR is proven because we have footage, documents, people still alive when he was, his skeleton, etc. You have none of that with Jesus, so maybe you should try again. It's foolish to believe that God created everything, when so much is proven otherwise.

God only exists because people believe in him, if no one believed, he would cease to exist.

From: Harry
Does the same not apply to you? His "mouthpiece" is researchers and scientists, while yours is citations from a book written by sheep shaggers over 2000 years ago.

^ This. I laughed so hard when reading this, couldn't have said it any better.

I think it's funny that people have to resort to attacking, rather than listening. The purpose of this thread was not to start a flame war, but to hear and listen to other peoples opinions. Also, not to force your beliefs or opinions on other people. If people would just open their minds and listen, and not immediately reject something because it's different, the entire world would be a better place.

As I stated very early in this thread:

God hasn't been proven either, so technically we are at a stalemate. We agree that at this moment of time, without any proof, we were created from nothing. I will stand by this until I am proven otherwise.

This is a picture of an adorable kitten.

I know this because I can look at my computer screen and see an adorable kitten staring back at me. *nuzzle nuzzle*

I know that this kitten did not always exist. I know that this kitten's parents did not always exist, nor their parents, nor theirs, nor theirs, etc. But I know that, given the very observable laws of the universe, something had to put them there.

I can also use my brain to reason, "Hm. Something that operates outside of our universal laws may have put everything into motion. Maybe that's why I am looking at this adorable kitten licking his paw."

What I cannot do is extrapolate further and say, "Indeed, not only is this being's name Yahweh, the Abrahamic God of the Bible. He also created the universe, and the Earth, and the animals to populate said Earth, in exactly six twenty-four hour days. Never mind that large portions of the Bible have been lost, accidentally mistranslated, or otherwise had their meanings bastardized. I'm going to forgo all reason and logic and subscribe to this set of beliefs."

Bahahaha! You did not just like Wikipedia as your "source"! Omg, that's hilarious. The Earth is just a small area in our universe, there is so much out there that we can't even imagine! How could you only think of Earth when there is so much out in space?

According to Christian philosophy, in the beginning, God created the heavens(stars, space) and the earth. He did this to prove his magnificent design and his power. Saying there's more than just Earth does not disprove there being a God, but more-so proves it depending how you look at it. (You're telling me all of that randomly happened over the course of billions of years? or Why would God make all of that if humans are all that matters)

Also, Wikipedia is, in fact, a credible source if cited and referenced to correctly. There's a reason for all those hyperlinks and references at the bottom of the page. Everything you read is the opinion of someone else and you should check the background information as well.

From: Camo Developer
Science overrules religion in every way. Why? Because you can explain/show/test something without having to believe in a "greater, higher power" for it to work. You can take your work, go to any person in the world (Hypothetically), and get them to understand what was going on, without having to rip them from their religion in order to understand. That is where science overrules religion.

Here's the big question I want answered.

Can science explain/show/test reality, logic, and knowledge? Apparently those three things don't exist according the science because they can't be measured or tested through the senses.

From: Camo Developer
Wait, so God can just always be there, but not the elements and particles that created the big bang? Why is that? Please explain, why one and not the other. Also, and don't just say "Because God is real" or some stupid un provable response.

I thought I already answered this pretty thoroughly a few posts up..

I wanted to point out this bit because I've talked to a Bible scholar about this exact idea that the current version of the Bible is not true or if it's bad to read because it could possibly be false. He said that according to Christian beliefs, if you believe that the Bible is the ordained Word of God and everything in it is 100% true, then of course nothing has changed because it is the word of GOD. I was going to delve more into this but I don't have many references and I'll try to get more soon regarding this subject. One thing though that I do know of off the top of my head is comparing modern Bible manuscript to the Dead Sea scrolls. The Dead Sea scrolls consist of mostly the Hebrew Bible, which is basically the Old Testament of our current Bible, and they are very old, as you can read on Wikipedia.

…Before you whine at me for using a wikipedia link maybe you should check out the references on the page as well.

You don't need any references to argue, "It's true because I believe it to be true." The argument is invalid from inception.

For everyone who doesn't believe in God, just know this - God loves you, and once you experience Him working in your life, you'll believe. Give Him a chance ;)

The problem I find with evolution is how does one species give birth to another species with a different set of chromosomes and entirely different DNA strands? Natural Selection makes sense, but that deals with genes being phased out or in.

(but then again, this thread is about the existence of God, not the origins of the universe)

This thread is on a spiral. I would just like to say that a "theory" is a very prestigious thing to call something in the scientific world. Theories are based on fact. Also, just because science hasn't answered something yet doesn't mean it cannot. Religious people of old may have used unexplained concepts as arguments for gods.
Existence of tides –> unexplainable –> therefore god.

However, we can now explain tides using science. This could also be true when it comes to many other things. A good scientific mind realizes that science hasn't explained everything yet, and just because it hasn't doesn't mean there is automatic implications. The good scientific mind realizes these holes and strives to find an answer to them using the tool of science instead of just making an assumption and sticking with it. One of the beautiful things about science is that it is ever-evolving. It is always coming up with more answers.

Let's move this from does god exist to what characteristics of those who do and don't think he exists. So far, all the snide comments like this have come from those siding with god. I'm not saying if you believe in god you're an ass, but the message for the most part is to be a good person. Most people I've met that I would consider poor excuses for a human being have been religious fanatics, and I've met some very well rounded Athiests. If you're going to exclaim your belief in god and defend it as such, at least act like it. Being an ass is not acting like it. Being ass shows that there are people who don't believe in god that are better christians (I'm assuming you're christian) than you even though they're not trying to be. It's people like you that ruin organized religion and make it the limiting factor it is. My apologies if this is considered too harsh. "Christians call it faith, I call it the herd" - Nietszche.

For one, money and mickey mouse/ronald mcdonald are quite different from each other. On top of that, a deity and money are quite different, as well. Money itself (a legal tender, a coin/piece of paper with some engraving/ink on it) does exist, as you can touch it, see it, blah blah blah. I can open my wallet and touch money. The thing that has some relation (except for not really) between money and god is the value of money, which is an arbitrary number that we make up, is nothing more than a number we put on it. Not really, money is given its value from human belief in its value, the thing you touch is just a physical representation of it. Just as you could create churches, synagogues, mosques, etc or holy water or statues of god representing him/her/it. without the belief in the value of money your papers and metal scraps wouldn't be much use… even if god as a being doesn't exist, the belief of the existence of god more or less creates god since it starts affecting the actions of huge amounts of people.

It only creates a feeling of solidarity. It doesn't create an almighty being that can perform miracles, is all knowing. The problem is that people act based on (this) their solidarity (which isn't really weird). And this is constantly abused, both in politics and every day life. They're constantly lobbying against anyone who doesn't agree with them, about anti-conception, being gay, etc. As much as their imaginary ``friend'' or book tells them to be kind to everyone - it's having quite the opposite effect. Marx nailed it - religion is the opium of the people.

Every powerful leader in history was either agnostic or atheistic and simply (ab)used religion for their own good because it would give him a huge amount of blind followers.

I understand what you're saying now, and it probably makes sense to a lot of other people too. But people that believe in God of the Bible believe that the Bible 100% perfect and the way that God wants it to be. You'll reassure people that don't believe in the Bible, but you'll never convince someone that does believe in it.

As far as the Dead Sea Scrolls showing that parts of the Bible can be lost or misplaced, there's already documented events during the medieval times (from early Roman Catholic rule to King James) where there were councils and agreements in removing (what they thought) were unnecessary books of the Bible. Again if you believe Bible is true and God is divine, then you will believe that every version of the Bible is divinely inspired therefore true.

The Dead Sea Scrolls are meant to prove the Bible's accuracy.

God simply exists to solve problems which 'currently' humans cannot answer, i.e. largely things we either cannot comprehend (i.e. how the world was made) or we have no control over (i.e. life/death). He therefore solves a psychological need which stops us becoming overly stressed, worried etc about things which we cannot deal with anyway.

I take pretty much the same line of thought as Zyt3x^

For all intents and purposes Santa, the Tooth Fairy and so on exist when we are younger for a similar reason. We cannot explain how the presents got there, or our tooth disappeared and where it has gone, until of course we have found out a reason. Even when we stop believing in the a both examples we CAN still believe in a God as it makes logical sense to as now our brains have developed and bigger problems exist which we must deal with.

Science CAN be proven. Just the particular theory isn't considered fully proven as of yet.

Then isn't all science just theories? As "newer" science > old "science" which makes science nothing more than a likely theory, right?

Besides, there isn't a way to "fully" proof something simply because we might take something else as the truth in the future, which happens once in a while.

Take gravity as example… who says our current laws of science are correct? I highly doubt that they aren't, but do we know it for sure? No.

Excuse my grammar :)

This is the way I look at God: God existence is just like Money's existence; Without humans to think (believe) there is any value in it or to it, it would not exist. Imagine a human born without any knowledge to human or earth's history; Would a concept like "God" exist? I think not.

In the old times, all the people, groups of them without interacting with others, started believing in something, be it a tree or a god. Maybe they needed to believe in something.
How do you know animals don't believe in anything?

They took over 20 years to translate and were translated by hundreds of translators.

What you're not seeing is that a ``theory'' in science is typically true if there's reason enough to believe it to be true and there have been no facts to prove it wrong. ``The criterion of the scientific status of a theory is its falsifiability, or refutability, or testability. — Karl Popper''

Our formula's for gravity/mechanics are theories. Is the fact that every building doesn't collapse right now not enough proof for you? The same amount of overwhelming evidence is there for evolution, just a little bit more hidden to the misinformed.

My point: Stop putting something away as ``just a theory'' as that is a misinterpretation and misjudgement.

It seems that this turned into a debate whether you should believe in god or science. I think it needs to be cleared up that science is not focused on disproving god. It's purpose is to find out "why" and "how," I'm sure if there was any evidence of a god, someone would pick up on it, and then science would try to prove there is a god. Right now these two groups are being viewed as enemies. Right now, with our knowledge, we accept that we can neither prove nor disprove god, but keep in mind that science is impartial, it will take the choice that lends the most evidence. If there was evidence of a god, science would be on religion's side trying to prove he exists, don't view it as an enemy. You are not a priest. You are not God. And therefore you have no right to use "religious evidence" against science.

See, your logic doesn't make much sense. If you're trying to say that because some people lie, that makes evidence in itself a fallacy by definition, then you have no right to be involved in any discussion apart from something that you could debate with a child of less than a dozen years of age. Your father may have gone through school to be a scientist, but if he actually did (and I quite doubt your father has four different doctorates alone, let alone him raising you to have faith in something as nonsensical as religion), I would not - and neither would many other scientists (since I have no right to say any of this, according to you) call his practice scientific.

Tarajunky, an admin on these forums, has gone through school for biology (not sure to what level, but he is a "doctor" as far as I know), yet he has faith in a god for non-evidence based reasons, and denies pieces of evidence science has to offer. For those reasons, I would not much call him a very scientifically important figure, and many other scientists would agree with me. Richard Dawkins, for example, has said he wouldn't call Francis Collins (the "head" of the HGP) a very bright man, as he believes most of the bible literally.

LOL? Ok lets break this down.. I guess I gotta break down the bible for those of you who do NOT have eyes to read..

On the sixth day he created Man.. Gf your argument bro. 7Th day he says that all is good and the earth is finished.

Genesis 1:26-28, 1:31 God said let us make man in our image, after our likeness he created the first man in his own image.

Genesis 1:31 And God saw everything that he made and behold it was very good. Meaning everything that he made at this time was very good he would not have been able to say it was good if he had not made man in his own image

Genesis 2:5, 2:7-8, 2:15 KJV He created Adam to till the ground and work the fields. He blew breath/life into the sand and Adam was born and taken into the Garden of Eden.

If you read your bible you'd have realized that Man was created on the Sixth day.. On the 7th, he rested and later on Adam and Eve were created.

On the 7th, he rested and later on Adam and Eve were created.

if you're telling me that the bible's verses are written chronologically then the bible contradicts itself hundreds of times over. So I assumed you wouldn't be foolish enough to say that. Guess i was wrong xD
Adam names all the creatures. Still there is no suitable partner, god creates woman for the first time.

Actually you think I wasn't foolish enough to say that.. Well I didn't think you were smart enough to know that. I never said anything about women now did I?
As for chronological order, why else would there be days in which the earth was created in a specific order.. I indeed do believe it is in chronological order.. there are different sections/books in the bible.. Each book may possibly be in order but I'm not saying that Leviticus came before any other because I do not know that.

Yes I do believe that "God" exists.

By God I mean, that I believe that someone is watching my back.
And on hard times I have someone to talk to who will listen.

Why? What reason do you have to believe in such a thing? Why believe in that with no scientific evidence?

Complete sarcasm right? Yet you don't even realize when you say Oh God.. nice try there bud. Pure lies.. Go back and read the edit in which I replied to wizup on the same statement of "Oh God" is more pleasing to your ears. Im not dumb enough to believe the scar on her arm is real.. What does google have to do with it? You asked where can you find it.. thus google was your answer.. L2Read. As for scientists creating dark matter.. Oh mighty one please show me this dark matter source. For you have told lies. If dark matter cannot be seen or touched AND light cannot penetrate it nor reflect off it, not can it be measured or weighed AND it is infinitely small.. How in the hell can you possible explain how it was created. You clearly "have no clue what you speak of".

LOL nice one bro.

Maybe you should try formatting your responses, would make it much easier to understand.

I do realize it when I say it. I choose to say it over "fuck", or "shit", or "motherfucker". How can you say I don't realize it? It's a choice.

Well apparently you are, since according to you, "she's horrible". Why is she so horrible? Please explain.

I have told lies? Your posts contain nothing but lies.

Oh, I'm sorry, I misspoke. They found a dark matter, not created it, my bad.

I don't even need to point out the hundreds of contradictions the bible has if you assume it's written or even just individual books are written chronologically. I find this laughable that you could possible say this. :P

I didnt take my time to read all of the comment's but im going to put my 2 cents out there. God im my opinion doesn't exist and if he did then this quote pretty much sums up what i would think of him.

"Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?"

Because it is in human nature that, when you have extremely hard times you wan't to believe that there is someone who will help you and you will pray.

Secondly praying will help you actually think what is wrong.

And why I believe?

It's because sometimes believing is actually smarter than listening facts.

Believing is believing, some people don't believe in god some people do.
For some people it helps them, for some people.. I don't know.

These kind of things you can't argue.

Every people has an own opinion. What makes you an asshole is how you tell it to other people.

Really? What's his name? Can you link me to some of his publications? He must have plenty with 4 PhD's.

You seriously think I would post his/my name on this forum? I'll put in (3/10) credentials:
Ph.D. Biometrics
M.Sc. Quantitative Analysis and Modeling
and he has ~20 publications (this is just publications, not submissions)
Good luck trying to find him, I deleted keywords.
So now, anyone want to show me some of your credentials besides:
Sat at some Communist Professor's lecture about something I didn't understand, but I thought I would go ahead and tell others.
None of the people arguing against God have actually read the Bible. They've read what their little atheist fan sites say. Basically this is what I've gotten from the thread:
You reject God because:
1. You're homosexual, bisexual, etc and are against God because you know the Bible says it is wrong to be any of those.
2. Superiority complex; you hate to think anybody is above you. These kinds of people are normally violent.
3. Lazy; don't feel like going to Church, Sunday school, and feel that it's much easier to not believe then to believe.
4. Raised badly; parents possibly didn't believe for some reason, etc.

And Camo, no one is trying to force it down your throat; we're defending our faith. I didn't tell you to go become a Catholic or a Muslim, or a Jew or anything like that.

Oh wow buddy.. please point out my lies in that exact post you quoted.. You did tell lies bro.. talk shit that you don't know.. u just proved that you can't even read.. you linked to sources that proved me right.. That dark matter cannot be created.. As for viewing it.. thats a bunch of bullshit.

"Without dark matter, which is invisible and can only be detected through its gravity, the fast-moving galaxies and the hot gas would quickly fly apart." Thats a bunch of bullshit.. if you cannot detect it, cannot see it, cannot know if its there and assume it is because it explains most of your shit.. then I cannot believe you if you cannot believe God. Lemmie guess.. you think Nasa is God because they can bullshit you right? You think they can weight something they cannot touch or see from millions of lightyears away with a telescope. LOL. These guys are clearly looking for something to explain their bigbang which is still JUST A THEORY.. If the computers could not even detect it, but because a star or galaxy collided, it must exist? LOL..

As for you even responding, you must feel mad hurt that I put you down that many times. It's ok though.. you can bullshit the other guys on this dark matter and shit you don't know, but you won't bullshit me.

@ the guys who said I'm 5.. man I guess a 5 year old got to you. U turn down my answers because it disagrees with your own ideology.. You must be real mature.

@Spazi or whatever your name is.. Im too lazy to scroll up and check. But If I'm correct, I haven't even bashed you. If I remember, I turned down your talk on quantum tech because it is something which you could and everyone who responded, could not explain. Yes we may advance on that stuff.. but it's still just a theory.. It still has obstacles to overcome.

As for me disliking that girl I posted.. She's ugly. Thus why I posted the picture saying your girlfriends must look like that. I googled ugly goth and she came up.

He was not communist, I do not see the point you are making with that.

I understood it all he said, but I won't be able to solve the biggest problem currently unsolved(me subject) as you think I should be able.

Also, I won't be able to write it down as I heard it in my native language.
But you should know that better than anyone else here with a father like that.

And what's up with the superior thing? That's another horse you are trying to ride on? When did I implied that? As far as I remember I only said that I find certain posts stupid. Guess that makes people superior than, because you know that better too.

@ggzz: You want me to explain something new I just learned the basics about? I am not a teacher to do that. And the fact that I can't explain it doesn't mean none can.

Without posting ANY evidence of your dad having PHD's, I reject you and your claim as complete bullshit.

What? Because we have different opinions that makes our Professors communists, and that we didn't understand? Wow, you're really just a horrible troll. You have no real information to discuss, at all, so you just spout nonsense.

I've read the Bible, plenty of times. It has wonderful stories in it, but that doesn't make it the answer to everything. I'm not an atheist, so you're wrong on that one, as always.

Wow, nice stereotyping. Only ONE person has admitted to being bisexual, and that was on a different thread. I'm hetero, since you're clueless. And even if I was a homosexual, or bi, or whatever. I wouldn't reject God just because of the Bible. I have a few friends who are gay that are stout Christians, what do you say about that?

I don't have a superiority complex, I just don't give in to people feeding me bullshit and lies, and preaching them as truth when there is no evidence. None of here are violent, we were having a peaceful discussion. I know there are people above me, they're called my supervisors and managers, I report to them at work. I have no issue with that. Again, your argument is down the drain.

Lazy? Oh, yeah, good one. I, for one, am self taught in programming. Worked my way up to a nice paying job through hard work, I didn't sit around and do nothing. I work hard every day, I work for what I want and have. I don't accept handouts, ever.

Raised badly? I was raised Christian, just so you know. I had very strict parents, and I'm glad. I was raised with respect, manners, and that intelligence and maturity will get you far in life. So far, it's paid off. However, I got tired of people trying to feed me bullshit, when I knew what they were preaching was false. So I've converted away from Christianity.

So, your posts are nothing but trolls. I'm done responding to you.

EDIT: ggzz, the above goes for you as well. I even said I misspoke, did you not read it? I guess not. Have fun with your idiotic beliefs.

I have no reason to believe you if you're not going to link me to his references. Seeing you keep spouting crap… Until proven otherwise you're a liar.

Also: Raised badly -> parents didn't believe for some reason? Don't make me laugh. Pathetic. The Bible tells you to respect everyone's beliefs. You're obviously not doing this. I could say the same for people who are religious -> raised badly because parents believed for some reason.

Not forcing it down anyone's throat but saying atheist parents are bad parents? You've got your logic straight sir.

You can't prove the existence of God with science. He is a supernatural phenomena not bound by scientific laws. It would be illogical to prove him by science.

Also, why is everyone picking on the guy that doesn't know much? "Taking candy from a baby" analogy would fit pretty well here.

I'm surprised to find everyone talking about God vs Science, and no one bothering to mention one's soul.

Isn't God supposed to save our souls? Can science prove we have souls? Do you believe you have a soul? Are you a scientist ?

if your answers were yes, no, yes, yes, didn't you just admit you believe in something you can't prove theoretically?
