Tell us about yourself…
From: Aegis
I'm not the best at programming, but for the most part, I've been completely self-taught. This year, since transferring schools, I'm currently taking a college-level programming course in Java, and have learned TONS. In-fact, I've been able to apply my learnings from SRL to in-class, and vise-versa. (And I'm passing with flying colors!) Prior to starting late October/early November, I had no experience whatsoever with Pascal/Simba/Scar, but I've been able to learn very quickly. I achieved 99 Herblore using my first script (although, I used quite a lot from other, old scripts), and I'm going to be getting 95/99 Prayer next using this next script, a Gilded Altar script, which was nearly completely written from scratch! (Thanks to the large amounts of awesome tutorials!)

Please show us one (or multiple) of your scripts:

Additional Comments..

So far, I've been able to run very long, fairly flawless progress reports, and have already nearly achieved my high-level goal from testing and re-working the script. I'll be publicly posting this script soon, and have already posted the Herblore script I used for 99.

Anyways, I'm not really sure what to expect here, as I'm not completely sure what level you guys are looking for. I just thought it'd be nice to see where I'm at, and how I'm getting along. Just know that I'm a little intimidated by some of the levels of expertise shown here in these forums, and I'm far from some of those levels. Anyways, If it's good enough, awesome. If not, then I'll be back another time! Thanks!

Tips and comments are much appreciated :)

The End!

The script looks pretty neat, I think. Things are little too static, though, like which inventory slot you click, which bank slot your items are located in, general stuff like that. Over all I think it's a job well done, covers multiple places in the SRL Include so that's a big plus.

You've been here a short time and it looks like you're learning pretty quick. I've seen you post in a few threads, but I surely do wish you were more active!

I vote yes.

You have a lot of infinite loops, and clicking colors without randomness on it. Your standards are a bit funky too.

I am not going to vote for now but you need to improve on the above things I think. You're off to a good start though!

Same as what Harry said. You have too many loops that could possibly never end, and its always a good idea to exit out of them after a few tries. Same about the standards. Also i don't see many advanced techniques(like tpa and atpas, dtm, etc.), so i have to vote no.

Thanks for the comment! As far as the non-random color-clicking, I figured it would misclick often using FindObjCustom, seeing how if it detected a color at the edge of an NPC/Object, and having a random X/Y would cause it to click off the desired object? Unless they're are built in procedures against this, such as checking UpText again, I thought it was the best way to go. I'll look into alternative methods though and test things out ;P (Unless this isn't what you're referring to at all)

As for these 'infinite loops', .. more often than not, my script would misclick something, and move onto the next step, and cause problems. I decided to use these as fix, but I can understand how it has potential danger. So far, though, these work pretty good and I haven't bothered looking to replace them. As KingKong suggested, I'll probably add some sort of check for attempts and exit if that attempt number is met.

Hmm, thanks for the comment! I'll look into those tutorials, and add what I can! I've used DTMs before, so those shouldn't be a problem. I'll look for ways to use TPA/ATPAs.

Anyways, I'll could try and post a revised version shortly. It's a bit late tonight, so I'll get a few things done and finish it up tomorrow once I get home.

As for these 'infinite loops', I found them to be pretty efficient. More often than not, my script would misclick something, and move onto the next step, and cause problems. I decided to use these as fix, but I can understand how it has potential danger. So far, though, these work pretty good and I haven't bothered looking to replace them. I am not well known about findobjcustom, but you still should call a getmousepos before calling any mouse without randomness (unrelated, but it's always a good idea). I personally would use a modified findobjcustom that'd use more randomness and use uptext to your advantage.

You should make sure they get broken out of, after so many times.
repeat
Inc(c);
DoYourStuffEtc; // whatever you're searching for or such
until YourCondition or (c > 10);
if (c > 10) then // 10 is a test number. make one that works according to your needs, after so many loops
begin
WriteLn('Infinite loop oh no');
// handle it or whatever.
end;
c:=0; // reset it
// onto the rest of script
Simple way to have your loops while removing the chance of it becoming infinite.

Ahh, ok, thanks. Easy enough. I'm already scheming of cool failsafe methods to add in with that. Thanks!

Check out FindObjTPA! :)

I do think you are off to an excellent start. :)

Voting yes. I like your attitude, and you have, once again, put a lot of effort in. I do not see you stopping any time soon.

This. I completely agree.
If you could fix those infinite loops a bit, I'll sure vote yes! For now holding my vote.

Well, I ended up getting home later than expected, but was able to add uses of:

  • Failsafes/Un-indefinite loops (Still in the process of improving, but it works)
  • TPAs
  • DTMs

I'd like to have added more (not finished with all DTMs), but I'm needing to head off to bed. Hopefully I learned how to implement them all correctly, and thanks for the awesome feedback! I'll come back to this thread once I get home tomorrow. If you see me doing something wrong, please let me know.

(Oh, and sorry, I wasn't able to fix my standards, but I'll hopefully get to that tomorrow)

Thanks! And yes, don't worry, I'm still making many improvements on it! Full implementation of DTMs should be completely finished in about an hour. Although, currently I haven't really tested my script fully, seeing how the minimap dots aren't correctly being found. I was going to simply wait for a fix, but I think I'll just revise a new bank method that doesn't use FindObjThroughMM.

Again, thanks to everyone who's voted and commented thus far.

All the walking procedures are using SPS, does not look like you put in effort to make some walking methods/procedures yourself. I like your use of TPA's but they are all SRL ones, none were made yourself.

I'll hold my vote.

All the walking procedures are using SPS, does not look like you put in effort to make some walking methods/procedures yourself. I like your use of TPA's but they are all SRL ones, none were made yourself.

I'll hold my vote.

Is that not the point of becoming an SRL Member? Not using the SRL include to its fullest?

I've only de-repped one person on this forum mate, and it wasn't you. :/

Well someone here is being a pussy, as they just derepped me and wrote "Can't *vote no on reflection so SPS hating is the next best thing, how about you release a script?" but they didn't leave a name.

Rep is anonymous with a reason. See it as a way to avoid flamewars.

Yeah, and sure for example cycro will be better because of that derep. Constructive criticism ftw.(sarcasm)
Flamewars, maybe, but I don't like that anonymous derepping going on neither. It's like going nowhere just as flamewars.

On Topic: I was holding my vote until now, but the fact that you do improved your script upon constructive criticism (not given anonymously) made me vote yes. If you become a member(and you most likely will) keep up the good work or Chuck will get you. :D

I only needed to walk to one specific point (literally one click), so I didn't feel that need to made an entire procedure for it. But for the TPAs, what do you mean by SRL ones? Maybe I've just misunderstood the concept, but I have several using specific coordinates and colors I manually set myself. I'll carefully read over some more tuts, and I'll try to understand what you're meaning.

I see exactly where you're coming from, don't worry. I'm glad you posted your comments and feedback, and I'll do my best to deserve your vote. Please, if you'd like to make any additional comments, feel free to leave another post :)

Thanks!

FindObjCustom is a simple way to find a TPA, its a good start, but as you become more advanced as a scripter making your own TPA from scratch can be very useful and effective as you are controlling every single thing in that tpa. You can also control what TPA you are using, for example I use splitTPA's when finding trees.

Offtopic: I don't even care that I got derepped and the person didn't leave a name, it just means that instead of responding to you directly ill just respond publicly.

I don't "hate" SPS, it is actually very good and useful, what I just did not like is how that was his ONLY method of walking in his whole script. Also, I didn't hate reflection when it was still alive. I only disliked when someone would post a script and only use things from the reflection library, and use absolutely nothing from the SRL library, or even if they did it would be something very simple and minor.

Aegis, you do make a good point though, seeing as you only needed to click once on the map to get to the destination. But even if SPS fails, it is still good to have backup procedures. Failsafes are good and the more there are, the less likely a script is to fail. You have been quite an active member since you have joined and have a good positive attitude. I voted yes on your application. Good luck

Just wanna say i agree with you. ultimately i'd say walking should be the most backed up and fail-safed part of a script. The best script will have at least 3 forms of walking. RRW with DDTM's or WalkPath failsafed with SPS could be a flawless walking method :D

You seem to know how to use standars in parts of your script. Why not fix your standards everywhere?

You seem to do them correctly somewhere but somewhere not..

If you make everything standardized like this I will vote yes.

procedure Main;
begin
repeat
ProgressReport;
BankandTele;
StartAltar;
TeleToBank;
until not(LoggedIn);
end;

Working on it now :)

I'll be posting the updated standards/updated version shortly.
Also, on a side note, I achieved 90 prayer just a few minutes ago :P
