It's great that SRL is once again a big hit, but these leechers are really becoming a problem. There are so many people who don't even try to look for a tutorial, and just ask stupid questions in script threads.

Here are some ideas that popped into my head:

Application needed to join SRL:
Require a very short application from everyone who wants any scripts from SRL.
We could only offer tutorials and example scripts, such as a very very simple power miner, to make it possible to learn using scripts without asking stupid questions. We shouldn't require script writing skill, only knowledge about how to use Simba, how to pick colors, how to fill DeclarePlayers, that kind of stuff.
Allow SRL Members+ to let people in. It should only take a minute to read each application and there'd be no polls, so I believe we would still be getting enough new members per day.

Prevent posting and making threads right after registeration:
During the first 48 hours, you're not able to download scripts, post messages or create threads. This is probably easier to make, but will be far less effective.

Ideas? Do you think leechers are becoming a problem?

Seems like a good idea to me.

Interesting but I think it would do more harm then good at this point. The leecher problem is not that bad. You should have been around during SRL 3.6b ;)

Used to be this way, only worked with a large active user base (much larger than we are at)

Some of the new users are quite intelligent and helpful and direct other new users to where they need to go.




I think we are getting ahead of ourselves. It has been like 4 weeks since we started going back up. We are still a drop in the bucket compared to what we used to be. We are not ready for leecher deterrent measures yet. Our growth hasn't stabilized enough yet.

Indeed they are. I didn't mean to sound harsh if thats how my point came across, we just aren't stabilized enough yet for stuff like that.

I'm for this idea.

I think it's not that bad. In the end, some leechers will become scripters - some just have to leech for a bit until they realise it. Give them a chance to explore our community before locking them out.

Im just tired of people posting threads like "Let's prompt _____ to JR!"
