[Suggestion]Make "Registered Users" unable to apply.

I thought I would post this here since this has to do with appliances.

Currently we are getting many appliances from registered users who doesn't even post a script.

I suggest that only Junior Members would be able to apply.

What are the current requirements for Junior member btw?

300 posts/6 months. Too high imo, I got members at 45 posts and 6 weeks.

Wasn't it like 10 posts and a week few years ago?

I definitely think 300 posts is way too much. Perhaps 30 posts and a month would be enough?

I don't think a time requirement is necessary if someone is amazing and learns how to write scripts in a week.

I think JR memb is needed to apply, all of these spam appliances are getting VERY annoying…

Those few could just contact some moderator/admin and ask for permission to apply early.

Or of there is someone that is really that promising an admin or mod could simply tell them to apply and create a thread for them?

I'd say indeed, make them so that they have to make like a simple auto talker or spammer or something like that. Promotes them and give them the drive for scripting:P

No.

Most of them just want the l33t member scripts. Getting members isn't going to give anyone a drive if they don't have it.

I agree with this. 100 posts and a month I say would be about right. They should be showing an interest in things here and not just be here to ask for members, because they think its better to be one.

I agree.

I don't see any problem with current Jr. requirements, neither with the empty apps. Report it, mods come and closes, simple. Not that we(well, I) looks into the section with apps and starts browsing but gets tired of the spammy threads. And there is not that much of empty apps.

I actually kind of enjoy the recent apps (you may say not the people that have to mod them; but I spend as much time reading them anyways). They provide a bit of daily humor mostly because 98% of them are leeches anyways.

And what do they actually expect to see? They say I'm 17 and live in Kentucky, and you're in? Haha.

I would troll them hard, but everyone here is too nice for that.

I Agree…
Should work like a Hierarchy.
Registered > JR > Capable to Apply for Members

Does not make sense to have Registered straight to Members, skipping JR completely.
Sounds fair and simple rule.

I agree but 6 months is too long as others have said, I got members after about 6-8weeks and 100ish posts

The requirements for Junior Member are far too high. Reduce those and no doubt, this would be a good thing.

We already tried that with me.

Oftentimes people who deserve it early get it handed to them, we have a board for promotion suggestions (ranks, cups, etc) in the Senior member section.

Hehe, that was amusing :D He made a poll in SSRL too. I voted yes :P

I'd agree with this. Although it really isn't that big of a deal to go through the appliances, a little bit of hierarchy would probably weed out the REALLY dumb appliances.

I agree to the requirement for junior member status in order to apply. And tbh, I don't care about the time limit, the longer the better in this case. I want people in SRL members that are apart of the community and will know their way around and at least show signs of stay. Not ones that register, apply within a month, then leave/become inactive.

I would say just 200 post count should be enough… maybe 1 month longevity

This thread was like, four months old.

Well seeing as though it's been gravedug…

I agree, too many people applying without a script and also too many people applying with a script :p

Someone just did apply without a script haha.

Tbh I think the reqs should be stricter… your too nice guiz :3

I'm just gonna bump the thread……… yeah a mod/admin should definitely consider this recently there have been a lot more applications without a script

Seeing as though it's been gravedigged again…

Maybe a way to check that the script has more than 20 lines before allowing them to submit it?

NKN

2012-06-13 13:33:35

Should be 100 lines, and scan user activity. :P

litoris

I'd like to bump this, would be really nice if junior was a requirement. People would actually try to be active in the community, we often see applicants that have good scripts but very few posts.

Lower requirements for Jr. membs or make you able to apply for Jr. membs ?
Edit: If its getting easier to get Jr. membs then we should maybe reconsider the requirments for Black market too?

This thread is about neither. OP suggested that in order to apply for SRL Membership, you must be a jr member first. 300(or was it 600?) posts and 6 months, that is.

I was a registered user when I got mems. Also it forces us to give feedback on script errors for scripts most of us wouldn't normally take the time to look over, which can help the applicant learn big time even if they don't get in the first time around. I know the feedback on my first failed application contributed a ton to my knowledge. But just my 2 cents

Black Market Requirements are different from the Junior Member. The reason this won't happen is because we do have some really good scriptwriters that come here. Thinking about it I can probably name about 6 Registered users that made Member through these application in the last year alone. We have gotten more than 10 garbage apps in a day before and this hasn't happened. With how slow it is now it's super unlikely. If the App is missing the script or it's like 50 lines of code then just report the post and the Staff will take care of it.

I was accepted in my first application when I was still a registered user. It is possible for registered users to be capable, helpful and committed enough to recieve member's status.

I think perhaps a lowered requirement to them being able to apply than Jr member's would be acceptable. A Minimum number of posts certainly, very few will get in (unless already a talented programmer) with less than a reasonable number of posts. This is simply because they aren't active enough and aren't really a part of the community yet, despite their abilities.

This has been discussed in depth many times by the staff. The current system works for us. You do not need to handle applications with no script, let us deal with it. If you find one without a script and no replies yet, post a reply along the lines of "Sorry you need a working runescape script to apply for members" and maybe a link to the "How to become a member" tutorial if you're feeling nice. Then report the thread and leave it at that. And if you come across it and does have a reply or multiple replies that say the same thing over and over, please do not continue the parrot routine. Just report the thread, say nothing and close the tab, we do not need the same thing said over and over again by 15 people.
