Shift of Power. More staff?

If SRL continues to grow the way it has grown for the last 6 weeks, I think we could do with more staff. At least I want to shift a couple of Members to SSRL, and keep a close eye on newcomers. If they have what it takes (if only a tiny little bittle) please allow them in.

You might think there is enough staff, but nowadays I regularly see 35 greenies, and no Reddies/Orangies/Blackies at all in the whos online.

More staff, more SSRL. Agree?

I think we have enough staff and SSRL, just because we are getting more users doesn't mean they/some of them necessarily deserve staff or SSRL (even the older ones).

I think we are just fine on staff and SSRL, I do however LOVE the idea of giving more attention to greenies and hanging out cups and promising newcomers to those that deserve it, this will greatly help grow and make the community a better place!

More developers and moderators. :)
Of course, the developers should actually be active.

lol it'd be nice if th SSRL were more active as well…

E: I also still think flight should get in…

Well, I think we could do with more staff members, although we're not doing that bad.
And get Harri and Flight in SSRL, they both deserve it.

I wouldn't mind seeing more of either.

I see no need for extra staff (at least for now) as we don't really seem to be overwhelmed.. especially considering Harry is locally modding the scripts section and that it doesn't have to be a staff member that helps out the greenies… our community is pretty helpful itself…

The community as a whole appears to be taking care of itself. The blackies/reddies seem to be stepping in where necessary.

The orangies do need to be brought in, though. :)

I wouldn't say that adding more of either just because you want more is necessarily, for staff, and to a lesser extent SSRL people, to be mature, and hopefully liked individuals that should generally have been here for a relatively long time.

Also, I see enough staff posts for their presence to be fairly apparent enough for me to think that its unnecessary unless existing staff are shorthanded.

SSRL, i agree for Harry. I would also say yes to Daniel at this point.

My Opinion :)

More Staff - No
More SSRL - Wouldn't hurt
More Devs - Yes

I wouldn't mind seeing more SSRL, but you can't push people to become devs or staff. If the person doesn't code actively now, they won't when they are made a dev. The same concept applies to staff. If they aren't interested in helping before they are 'promoted' they won't be after. I think I've proven this a couple times now?

You can try and promote some people to seniors to perhaps try and motivate them, but the others shouldn't just be handed out.

True. I brought up the subject because a shift is required. The problem with our uberdemocratic model is, it is paralysing, at least to me. It is difficult to say the least to operate on userrankings without written permission of all people involved. Now I dont want to impose BOSS on you, (because the equality is inseparable of our atmosphere) but fact is: we are too static.

I would really like to grant a couple users that have been here for over 4 years Seniorship. Regardless of whatever, as long as they are stable "trustworthy" human beings.

Also, I would like to cuppify a lot more people than what we do right now. But that would mean disassociating Cups with Members. Helper Bear, Useful Poster, Aristocrat etc are all handed out rarely. Reward someone with one or a couple of useful posts with the Useful Poster rank, and (s)he'll for sure know how to act @ SRL. The positivity should not be underestimated.

How did you feel when you got your first cup?

HyperSecret

2011-12-01 12:43:44

@WT
I personally don't think Cups should be polled, Admins/moderators are selected to administrate and moderate, they know whether or not someone deserves a cup. I think they should just give them. I know when I first received a cup I was excited because someone somewhere noticed that I was participating and applying myself at the forums. So I say hand more out where needed.

As for devs/ssrl/staff,
SSRL shouldn't be "pushed" to get more members imho, it should be given as deserved, no matter what the number of members is…same goes for devs/staff. If the fellow staff think someone should be promoted to a staff position then they should be promoted to that position. I don't really think we can have too many people in a specific "rank".

We do need more devs, I agree with that…the only problem is (which is obvious) finding ones that are going to be active and that want to/have a drive to. I personally just don't have any real "drive" anymore to maintain or develop a new script or for that matter to strive to be a developer (currently). I would say if there are any people that currently actively create excellent scripts and have been around for awhile they should be looked at to develop (Flight for example, atm actively scripts and just got SSRL, is he good enough? idk perhaps [personally haven't ever looked @ any of his code]).

@ Polling cups, admins/mods shouldn't need to poll cups, but ssrl members should be able to do so. :)

Def need Devs. I'm kinda back, Wizzup helped me fix ChooseOption etc. I usual always try to fix stuff that messes with my scripts :sasmokin:. I don't think we'll ever get a 'Zeph' again, we'll have to get a bunch of lesser active devs.

Edit:
Shit gets fixed faster when Devs that have scripts want their script to work sooner.

@polling Cups I try to poll cups to get the members involved hoping that they will start to recommend cups for others. This is the main reason I create polls on the different boards.

I was browsing through the privs of the user ranks, and I noticed the threshhold for Junior is now 180 days and 100 posts. I recall it being lower.

Also, as far as I could discover (not a geek @ admincp): Helper, Useful Poster and even Aristocrat are not bound to SRL membership. At least they do not have the permission to see Memberforum.

@Wizz: Fine idea, but that would mean granting Seniors to modpanel, no? Fine with me.

@HyperSecret: Exactly. It gives meaning and balance knowing your work is appreciated. Don't we all aim for that? Simple gift, great result.

After crossreference with another @dmin about the permissions, we should start handing out, or propose here. No poll required anymore.

And maybe because of the recent steady influx lower the threshhold from 180 to 60 days?

Perhaps some cups, such as masters should still be polled and possibly scripters… but I do agree that things such as tut writer could be handed out with more ease…

@Fawk: To grant cups one needs access to admincp, not modcp, and I'm not sure I'd agree with SSRL having access to acp…

It's definitely not in the Modcp for giving of cups. The only real user editing we can do iirc is changing sigs. I'll check and edit with results.

Quick reply here. I don't think we need more staff members right now. I also don't think we should make people SSRL just because they've been here a long time or just for the sake of having more SSRL members. I like our current policy of granting SSRL membership.

I agree on this cup giving issue:

More developers, sure, but with SRL5 to be fully released soon, one can EASILY develop through git. I'm not a Simba dev, yet I've made a few commits here and there. So have many others.

So basically, I don't think we need more staff/SSRL members, and I'm kind of half and half on developers.
