Making Simba/SRL/SPS/MSI more noob friendly?
I've been advertising simba and scar over at sythe like crazy since the bot nuke. But I still keep on getting like 10 pms a day on how to set it up / people to scare to use because its "confusing".
Now obviously its not confusing, its just that these guys have no patients to read through the extra. But since we could use the new comers, why not simplify and organize some of our tutorials and maybe make a youtube link on thread (if the owners feels like it).
Also, why don't we just enable all those extensions and auto download smart in simba it self? It could make these noob's life a bit easier:P

WE NEED. MORE. PATIENTS.
Anyway. The issue (not sure if I'd call it an issue, really) seems to mostly be that we try to keep Simba non-RS specific. Which can make some things more difficult, while making some easier (expandability, blah blah blah). That's something that could just be changed by shipping an RS-specific type Simba. Not sure how everyone would feel about that, though. I'm not sure how I feel about it, even, tbh.
I don't mind that it's a bit more work. I prefer it, in fact, to the alternative (RSBuddy is on the other end of the spectrum in my mind) simply because I don't want people who have no idea what they're using to macro. I dislike people who macro like crazy and just expect everything to just work and be a simple one step process. I'd rather not have a bunch of Apple fanatics around here (;)).
So to put my point simply, I don't think Simba needs to be much more noob friendly. I'm not sure if there's anything that I'd like to see it do differently at this point. Really not too sure about my feelings regarding the script manager and/or an account manager. But that may be a different thread's topic.
It would be hard to make MSI much easier to run honestly. Once SPS is installed through Simba then there's not a whole lot more to do as everything can be installed automatically.
Also, we have a youtube account with some promotional videos
here. I have more to add still. ;)
I had nothing against what we have right now, I just think it'd be easier if we could enable all of the extensions (ofcourse we give them an option to disable it later) and including smart as a part of simba auto update.

Harry made a video tutorial on how to setup. If people are confused after watching that, they need help with life. My dead grandmother could figure it out.
could you link that video in your "how to set up simba and srl" tutorial cohen? :p

I do. :p I suppose I could make it more obvious though.
Should we move the tutorial section more to the top?:P

There's a "Setting up Simba and SRL" link in the quick links at the top. Honestly, things couldn't be made more obvious unless we added
DOWNLOAD HEREat the top. People need to not be lazy and learn to read.

Sythe is a god forsaken place. Do. Not. Advertise. There. The scum of the 'runescape cheating scene' hang around places like that. I don't care if you say 'be nice to our friendly neighbors.' That place is nothing but trouble. No good. Very bad. Terrible. Horrible.
unfortunately, most of the other rs cheating sites ( apart from mitb) almost exactly the same if not worse.
Spoke of Simba/Scar at all of the other bot's site is instant delete thread and even ban.

. True, but it is both our backyard and our breeding ground. Plenty decent people at sythe, but they don't show themselves.

I think that we should focus on stability and functionality (they don't always mix) before trying to be much more noob friendly. Our use base already grew a lot, if it grows a lot more we'd risk being overwhelmed, developers burning out, etc. I think we're all working a lot harder than we were previously. Getting rid of remaining bugs, stabilizing systems would save us a lot of time answering posts about bugs.
I've been doing this (with others) to Simba for months, stabilizing, stabilizing. Now that Simba is quite stable, we're going to focus on making it more user friendly; (release 0.99 and 1.00).
The video tutorials and others should be clear enough. However, if you have good ideas that will make <insert X here> more user friendly, please let us know.
sounds good, we could do that :p

This is do-able. I actually did it in the portable version of Simba I created a while ago, but that hasn't been updated since like v.96.. The non-ease of use is what makes our community different IMHO, because we aim to help those who are willing to attempt to figure the system out. It helps prevent ignorant people I think

Maybe, but it's also rather annoying answering the same questions over and over again. I think I'm going to update/write an SRL FAQ thread right now and advertise it EVERYWHERE.
Thats a wonderful idea:P You should also sticky this with it.

I used a .bat file
I would hate to see Simba/SRL becoming too noob friendly like the bots were. This is simply because of what I see as a fact; The more members, the more detectable our scripts will become. When more people can successfully macro, more people will be bothered by ingame 'bots' (careless SRL users/newbs).
In my mind we would in no way benefit the community by inviting people who cant even figure out how to set up the program. We have extensive tutorials on how to do this correctly, and I believe the people who can not follow such a tutorial will never learn to script. I am not saying being able to release scripts should be a criteria to join the community, but knowing how to follow a step-by-step guide definitely should. :)
IMHO
You really want to cause yet another bot epidemy in runescape ?

Whoever is reading this right now, good reason why not to make it leecher friendly :) (those on IRC will know quite well what I'm talking about) :p Keep the idiots out of our community!
We need more cow bell.
(Leave it as it is. If people can't get it then let them sit there and learn.)

I don't really see why we 'need' the new comers who are lazy and can't be bothered to do anything for anyone but themselves :)

Confused and lazy aren't the same thing…I agree with auto enabling SRL in extensions.
