Seeing that its the season of savings (not), I come to you with a small Xbox question. Do you think its worth getting an Xbox 360 slim ATM? There is a store close to my house that is doing a 4gb Xbox 360 slim for 140. Also the status of jailbreaking or rooting or whatever term you people use for xbox for the purpose of playing movies etc off of an external hdd. Is it possible? I Googled it and it came up with a bunch of rubish YouTube links.

would you be jtagging (modding xbox's firmware to run custom roms etc etc) or just flashing the drive to play burned games?

(in no way at all do i support illegally downloading and playing games, download only games that you have bought)

You can play movies off an external hard drive legally/officially whatever.

PC > Consoles.

You also specified last night you were following a bandwagon. So a even bigger no.

RGH'ing/JTAG'ing the xbox allows the xbox to run unsigned code therefore allowing you to play games from the hdd and swap your hdd without any restrictions

the current method of doing this is called the RGH (Reset Glitch Hack) and there are two boards which this does not work with, the Xenon board and the Corona board, the Xenon board is the original xbox 360, the Corona board is from the newest slims

There are 2 slims boards, trinity and corona. however if you buy one new, chances are that its a corona and you cannot use the hack

i would suggest getting a second hand one which was bought in august or earlier (as august was when the new board was released)

If you do go ahead with this i would suggest you buy a Team Xecuter Coolrunner

EDIT: oh and if you do go with this, make sure you are good with soldering or you know someone with good soldering skills as the points to which you solder the wires to are extremely small and unless you are good with soldering and have a good soldering iron, you will have difficulty

EDIT: if you do want to RGH your xbox but dont feel comfortable with doing it yourself and you cant find anyone that is good enough to do it for you, then i will do it for you assuming you pay for the postage and the chip

The newest ones cannot be jailbroken in any way. I have one, and have looked extensively for guides.

Also, I never would have bought the thing; I won it from an arcade machine.

btw i just added my old 60gb hard drive into my 4gb new slim :) now it's 64 gb :)

Thanks for the replies! I did I end up buying the 250GB model. Came with a free halo reach download so I will be very interested in backing it up. Of the research I've done, apparently Ms can see when youve modded and can ban you from live? Can they see with tag as well? I appreciate the tips and info guys :)

that is correct, only mod it if you are not going online

the way i see it, i have bought their console, so why should i have to pay extra if i want to play online?
So i dont play online and so i modded my xbox

Well you can mod it, and go on line as I have. But it is only a drive flash which essentially will enable you to play games that you have "backed up" on to dual layer dvds. It obviously won't do everything that a JTAG will, but if your sole purpose is "backing up" your games, then flashing is a decent option that you can do on your own. Just make sure to get the xbox live safe version of the firmware and make sure to read the instructions for YOUR DRIVE because xbox's don't all have the same drives.

How well does that work? Does it let you bootleg games and play them? Can you go online with those games too? I'm interested in that.
